That's a genius idea with that plastic bag!!! This way fish for sure won't hurt itself, unlike the plastic bottle trick. The edges are so rough no matter how smooth you cut it.. Brilliant!!! Thank you!!!
Awesome, been there done that. In the past year I have had to remove a Flame Angel, a Red Head Salon Fairy Wrasse and a Snowflake Clownfish. The first two I was able to remove with a DIY that I made out of a plastic water bottle. The last one I had to actually get a fish trap from amazon and that finally worked. For the DIY, I simply cut off the top and folded the top over to make a more narrow passage. I weighted it down with some extra shells and small rock frags from the tank and stood the bottle straight up so the fish had to swim straight upwards in a hurry if it wanted a prayer at getting out. It also gave me the edge as it was much easier to reach straight down and cover the top of the bottle and pull straight up. The Flame and the Fairy Wrasse didn't know what happened until it was too late.
Haha, brings back memories. I had a reef tank about ten years ago and added a really gorgeous Flame Angel. Then he developed an attitude, dashing around the tank, nipping at corals and other fish. No way a net was going to work in that situation. Used a 2-qt. clear plastic juice container and had the bugger out of there in 30 minutes. I was practically dancing in the street!
OMG. amazing Gene. Great video and technique. You should really make more videos about salt water tanks. I have learned a lot from your two videos than most.
+eric olsen Thanks for the kind remarks. I do have some ideas for more videos. It s just a matter of doing them. One is introducing my tank and how I'm able to maintain it at low cost.
It worked. I used a 2 liter plastic bottle and within an hour he was in. I really didn’t think it was going to work but I was wrong. Now my wife thinks I’m a Genius. Thanks for the video
Thanks for the tip! I went to the beach a little bit ago and I was collecting tropical fish but couldn't catch any then I used this trap. Set it in the area all the fish I saw were At, and the trap caught some of them! Thanks alot!
Hello, Gene. I am still doing research for tank build and getting a little confused with alk, cal, and magnesium dosing. I have also learned that some folks dose auto top offs with Kalwasser to supply these minerals and some people using dosing pumps for dosing each of the minerals for coral growth. how do you supply your tanks with these important minerals. Thanks, Eric
+eric olsen The type of dosing depends on convenience, expense and more then anything else the consumption of these minerals. In my case I don't have a heavy load of live corals under growth lighting. So I don't consume these minerals too rapidly. Therefore I no longer use a continuous dosing method. I use Red Sea Reef Foundation Pro Test Kit to let me know when I need to dose. I then do so manually. I get my alk, cal and mag from Bulk Reef Supply. Kalkwasser is the best for just starting out. I highly recommend it. I also get that from Bulk Reef Supply. I've used it for years with a simple drip method. Actually Kalkwasser is all I need but I happen to have plenty of the minerals in solution to use up so I not dripping currently. At some point if you become a coral addict and load up your tank wall to wall then simply dripping Kalk won't keep up with the demand.
+eric olsen Thank you so much for the info. I hope you don't mind the questions. I have to build my tank system slowly because of the cost and research involved. You are a great resource for me because you really seem to know what your doing. I truly appreciate your time. Eric
Hi Jonathan, I've had this tank up and running since the late 1990's. Its experienced about everything a reef owner could struggle through. It has survived with injury several hurricanes, loss of power for 10 days and hair algal blooms. I believe these dead corals are from hair algae. It you want to know more about what I've done about this see my video about this tank. Low Cost Low Mainitances Reef ruclips.net/video/m4Ffh1jzhBg/видео.html
I'm not having a go at you. I'm just asking. I have had my fair share of trouble too but luckily pulled through. I lost a huge acro in the summer during huge UK Temperature fluctuations. _lh3.googleusercontent.com/h3wBalc5zaWeDGzTS2gUkyntJnetRAnjzkq-McJ2qJUCPH4b94owFO1NgV3XSMmXQLcjIfEygA_
That's what I love about the internet. We can learn so much from each other in the reef community. I don't mind talking about my loss for the benefit of others. Thanks for the inquiry.

So, how did you prepare the fish?
A little butter with lemon :)
Good job!
Awesome. This works!
Do you see a rainbow?! 😍😍😍
Why
My yellow tang was also the first in the trap haha
Wanna to catch my bastard Clarkii clownfish out so bad. It's killing my hammer corals.

No bait
hi
hard to hear and don't see a step where some kind of hold is used to get him into it. . looking elsewhere
Oh my God, you used something belonging to the wife on your aquarium?
I don't know that she ever knew. I placed it back outside where she had it on a garden shelf. Sometime later a neighbor kid shot it with a bb gun.
BRAH!
Poor fish!!😓
poor fish
Use a net
Oh ya it’s a reef you would tear the reef apart using a net
