Thanks for this FT series. I was to hike the trail SOTO two years ago for my 70th birthday but I broke my back and couldn’t go. I heard it was a humid mosquito infested nightmare full of swamps and leeches. I never thought I’d say this but having seen and been able to compare with my Appalachian Trail experiences, my back injury was a lucky break. Congrats on an impressive achievement of willpower and determination.

You have done well on the Florida trail . All of us who follow you think you have great determination . This trail did not offer the mountains, deer and thin pathways with heavy woods all around. It was different but we saw some Dr. Seuss birds, trees, alligators and that was pretty cool. The highways were a bit much but it is part of the promise you made to yourself and your followers to get this hike done, under your belt. Wow! I finally checked out my topos (I have over a dozen different states) and found out that I do have Florida. The FT isn't on it. Probably because the book is from 1997 and the trail wasn't established back then. So, I can't follow your hike to see exactly where you went. I did look up Christmas and see where that is. I could go back a look up all the towns you mentioned and get an idea of where it goes but I'm never going to hike that river and road walk. That's all it was for the most part. Congrats on the finish. CDT should be much better (I've followed Dixie, Wanderwomen, Darion Carden, and a couple of others on that trail so know what to expect - be prepared ! Carry lots of water in the NM part although there should be some water caches). You'll be in your element with all the mountains and the scenery is spectacular.

From MSN news page, happened on 2/20/21:
A Miccosukee Police Department officer died after a patrol car he was driving rolled over on Alligator Alley in east Collier County early Sunday, according to Team South Florida, a nonprofit that supports the families and agencies of fallen law enforcement officers.
Officer Horacio Sebastian Dominguez, 43, was on duty and heading west on Interstate 75 near Picayune Strand State Forest Campground at about 1:20 a.m. when the marked police car's right rear tire blew out a Florida Highway Patrol news release states. The car flipped several times and came to a rest facing south on the grass median.
Dominguez served with the Miccosukee Police for three years, according to Team South Florida. The Miccosukee Police Department has not returned requests from the Daily News to confirm Dominquez's affiliation.
A GoFundMe account has been created to support Dominguez's widow and young child. The online fundraiser was created by Team South Florida.
Dominguez, who wasn't wearing his seatbelt, was ejected from the car during the crash and later was pronounced dead on the scene, the FHP news release states.

@@Heretic10001 exactly! I don’t think that guy knew that hikers couldn’t hike through. He was nice...but then I also was questioned by the police when I was sitting at the gas station... if I was planning on walking inside the reservation.
I guess someone from the reservation saw me sitting at the gas station and wanted to make sure I didn’t walk through..... RIDICULOUS lol

You’re looking good in that cool new hat! Does anyone know the name of those plants growing in the trees in the swamp?

those would be air plants, an epiphyte that grows naturally in the area.

1:09 The cops were just doing a funeral escort. It's unlikely they would have paid any attention to you hitchhiking. Now if they were on patrol, that would be another matter. Another possibility, you could have probably night hiked through the Reservation. At night a bet nobody would have even noticed you. If they did, you could have told them, okay, I'm leaving. Bye, bye. 👋

The officers would give you a ride. The pack you have, does the Joey have a closet in it. You got a lot of clothes. That campsite, if you look there is a big puddle made by Second Chance tears. You....Ms Daisy...have been inspirational to follow. Not everyone is. Happy trails

Asked one of the officers that went inside the gas station to buy snacks.... he told me he didn’t know what to tell me 😔☹️
      .
All the clothes I had in my Joey at this point was my leggings and melly.
When I get another shirt I dispose of the other.
Awwww Jeff thank you for such kind words!!! You’re the best 💗💗💗💗

@@CrazyDaisysAdventures yeah, hard times when you lose someone like that. Good that you asked though! This was kind of a 'slice of life' episode with the police.
