I made this cake; it was amazing! I tweaked it a bit by adding 1/2 cup of flour dusted dried raspberries, currants, strawberries into the batter, then topped the cake with chopped roasted walnuts, after frosting! I also brushed the cake with 1/4 cup of 'Chambord' raspberry brandy, before frosting. It was my take of a Black Forrest Cake!

god bless you!!! this was the only chocolate cake we could prepare when I was a kid, back in the 80's in romania. I haven't kept the recipe, and haven't prepared it for decades!! and then, when I wanted to bake it for and with my kids, 8-9 years back, I couldn't remember it. I asked everyone in the family, friends from back then, any romanian I could find - and no one remembered the recipe. I just about gave it up, when surprize-surprize! you again have the recipe!! you are a gift!! thank you!
Just tried this today. Simply amazing! Moist melt in your mouth delicious! Has a rich chocolate flavor. The only thing I did different is add a cup of freshly brewed coffee instead of water to enhance the chocolate flavor.
i tried this recipe earlier today.it's brilliant how this cake turned out to be so good,so moist and not too sweet.mine was baked for 40mins, i didn't use the bundt mould, i just used my rectangular dish.i tweaked the recipe a bit, used oil instead of butter.
This is my go to recipe for chocolate cake. I use Guinness beer in place of the water and I add the warm chocolate mixture to the eggs and then the dry but it looks like either order works fine. This cake is so moist, rich and the beer makes the chocolate somehow more. I also flour my metal bundt pan with cocoa powder instead of flour. Doesn't need frosting.
Love watching a chef every day who doesn't use electric mixers or anything of the sort.. So relieving. My momma didn't teach me that way so I don't do it, just being lazy in my opinion. Screw convenience, I know I feel better about it when I know I put some elbow grease in my cooking! Makes the dish so much more genuine :)
I really love the texture of this cake. I don't have a bundt pan, so I usually make it in a regular 9" round cake tin or cupcakes. I top it with a nutella sour cream ganache--BEST THING EVER
I made this last weekend. It turned out great. It was so close to the picture in the video, I couldn't believe it. Tasted great too! This is definitely a keeper.
I have made this cake twice already and they are the most moist and well risen cakes i have ever made and did not even measure anything. Great recipe :)
We made it, and guys, this is one of the most delicious cakes we have ever eaten. We used way less sugar because the ganache makes it sweet enough. Used less butter too. But the result was perfect. Thanks for the recipe!
@@FaerieDust I just saw your comment. Actually you can feel free to experiment with it. We used the metric system, so I can only refer to that. The recipe says 1 3/4 cup of sugar which is appr. 225 grams, we used 150 grams of it. 1 cup butter is 225 grams, we used around 200. You can play and add less than this but more of sour cream or greek yogurt to keep the cake moist enough.
Hi, would you mind telling if the cake turned out smelling eggy? I did reduce the sugar. Texture etc was spot on. But the eggy smell kind of ruined it :( was wondering if only I had this issue.
@@Wayfarer_333 Hi, maybe the problem was the quality and/or quantity of the cocoa you used in it? I always use holland cocoa powder since it is high quality and easily accessible here where I live. You should smell the intense cocoa smell even though the sugar is reduced, depending on how much you put in the mixture.
I've made the cake today. Used a Bundt pan and let it cool for half an hour. When I tried to flip the cake over, IT FELL APART. Even when it's cooler it's still amazingly moist and dense I don't mind the cake torn in half. I have to remind myself to invest on a Silicone Pan for sure. The cake was amazing. Sour Cream made it absolutely moist and it tastes like a box of Cake Mix. I increased the Cocoa Powder to 1/2- 2/3 cup since my bakers instinct told me so. The Ganache was awesome!

And I love a bundt cake because it’s a cake I don’t have to decorate. Just smear on that ganache and it will look awesome.
Hi Priyanka, No it didn’t smell eggy. My shortcut is that I beat eggs , vanilla extract and the sour cream or creme fraiche depending on what I have at the moment together in a bowl before adding it to the other ingredients. That ensures that there is no eggy smell and everything is evenly distributed
I have made this recipe several times. It yields a delicious moist, rich cake. I used this batter for cupcakes as well. Made about 18 cupcakes with this recipe. I have made this recipe with buttermilk as well when I don’t have sour cream. It yields an even softer crumb tender cake! This recipe is a keeper and my go to for a quick chocolate cake
