  • SOOOO, I've received numerous questions and direct messages asking about my thoughts on Kinde and how it stacks up against its competitors like Clerk, Auth0, and WorkOS. In this video, I'll share my honest opinions on Kinde, highlighting what I like and what areas could use improvement

$100 per month for MFA is less useable

$100 extra a month for something as basic and necessary as MFA is a BIG no from me on Clerk

100%. MFA isn't groundbreaking technology. It should be included in the free tier, or at least its price should be significantly reduced.

@@janmarshalcoding yeah seems bonkers to me. it makes me doubt at least one large tech influencer who loves clerk (although he's done so much to help in other areas I think I can put it down to him just forgetting that $100 is a lot to some!)

    1. Documentation: I found clerk docs better than kinde.
    2. All the features present in kinde are also present in other providers.
    3. Clerk and others are 6.34 times easier to implement than kinde.
    4. Surprising performance is good in other providers too.
    5. Integration with stripe is also coming soon in other providers in a year if not in few months.
    6. Finally I can say you are 100% biased and this is no way an honest review or atleast an honest comparison.

Firstly, I agree that Clerk is a great product, no doubt about that. However, here's my take:
      1. Your point is valid as it’s your opinion.
      2. I would not entirely agree. If we're talking about basic authentication, sure, maybe they do have the same feature set. However, one thing to note is that you have to pay an extra $100 per month for MFA. If that's acceptable for you, then great! Additionally, Kinde offers feature flags, which are actually quite easy to implement.
      3. I wouldn't say so. To me, they seem quite similar in implementation.
      4. True, although Clerk's middleware implementation isn't perfect. I did hear that they plan to redesign the middleware, so that’s promising.
      5. This is new information for me... Do you have any posts or sources on that?
      6. Look, the beauty of this is that you can have your opinion, and I can have mine. Maybe I am a bit biased (isn’t everyone, to some degree?). All I can say is that I’ve been using Kinde for months, and my overall experience has been consistently positive.
      Thanks for the Comment 👍🏻

@@janmarshalcoding Hey thanks for your reply, it was my first try to kinde which made me reply you this way. I am not an expert but when I tried clerk it worked fine and once I tried kinde it didn't work properly and had strange errors which I couldn't figure out. although I didn't had much time so I just left it of.
Once again thanks for your reply and I agree to all of your points. Just I am little bit unbiased towards kinde but 100% biased towards you so I am going to use kinde in my next SaaS project.
      😍

Haha, it's okay, you didn't hurt my feelings 🤝
If you have some time at some point, could you let me know what you didn't like in the docs, or in other words, what you would like to see changed or extended? I'd love to share your feedback with the kind team!
Thank you for your support, I highly appreciate it! 🫶🏻

@@janmarshalcoding I am not sure it was somewhere around 7-8 months ago. But because of you I am planning to use kinde in my next SaaS project and I'll let you know if anything didn't work properly. But I think it should work now, because that was my first try and I was not aware about kinde much but now I am very much familiar even with custom Auth.
I think I had some error regarding that callback URL. But again I don't remember the exact error.

      Sounds good!
Yeah, for the callback error, that's because you probably did not delete the slash at the end of a URL. If you watch any of my kinde videos, you will see that I always mention to delete the / at the end.
