True American hero. I was 7 when this broke. I remember my parents being glued to the TV watching CBS news as the story broke. Obviously I did not understand what was going on but my uncle,, my mom's brother, had survived a tour in Vietnam so the story was very important and I remember my parents talking about it with such passion and fully supported what he had done and were happy when he was eventually vindicated.

Ellsberg's case ultimately went to the Supreme Court who ruled in his favor, saying that the New York Times had the right to publish the Classified Pentagon Papers protected under the 1st Amendment.

So... Trump can get out of trouble if he publishes the documents?

Lawyer, here. This is inaccurate. Ellsberg was not a party to the Pentagon Papers case. That was the New York Times. The Court held that once NYT was in possession of the information, the Government could not meet it's burden to prove that they should be able to exercise "prior restraint" on NYT's speech. Ellsberg's charges were dismissed in a separate case, unrelated to the publication of the info,

A true American hero and patriot--he put his life and freedom on the line for this country, while others did nothing and perpetuated the lie. RIP

I remember watching this on the news. Thank you so much for rebroadcasting this for those generations that did not know and those of us that need to be reminded. His contributions save lives and changed the world for the better. I won’t be forever in his debts and admire, respect and love him every day for the rest of my life. ❤

two things here: Ellsberg a brilliant and caring man who saw wrong and tried to right it and Cronkite who took his job seriously and presented in the most professional manner ever in the history of news broadcasting.

I was 15, it was quite the eye-opener to my burgeoning questions about - well, everything! seeing Cronkite sure takes me back to a time when newscasters were believable and strived to not put their personal spin on the news - oh, and the whole trying their best to be accurate/factual. that was nice, I miss it.
