  • Sea Ray is a brand known to most Aussies and for good reason. They build great boats that do what they say they will do. This 230SPX says it will take you and you family or mates out for a cracking day on protected waters and in that function she excels!
    With excellent space utilization, a hull that runs well with outboard power and exterior looks that make you feel cool this is a package that really does tick so many of the family fun boxes that I'm confident many of you are searching for.
    Even better for the people watching in Sydney you can now get access to this boat for a fraction of the full ownership cost via Freedom Boat Club Sydney North. I'll explain more in the video.

    Thanks for doing reviews of these smaller boats too! Helpful for those of us looking at more affordable options. 🙂

    With a good club, there's a lot beyond the rental boat to benefit from. Meeting like minded people/families and sharing in the boating experience are like icing on the cake. Glad you were invited to present this one, Dan.

    I really liked this content, very watchable, can you add more content like this to the channel for us newbies. Moorings, licensing, anchorages, restaurants/secluded beaches/ islands, while showcasing new boats and showing us actually how to use them and the things we can do with them.

    I live near Nashville, Tennessee. I own a 21ft Sea Ray 210 Select (2010 model year). I am considering upgrading to the 23ft Sea Ray. But, I am unsure about getting the stern drive or the outboard. The one thing I like about the stern drive is that there is a full swim platform across the entire stern. Do you have any reasons why I should buy an outboard rather then the stern drive? By the way, I could not care at all about the large storage box you get with an outboard engine.

      The question is will the boat stay in the water or on a trailer? If you intend to keep in the water all year round then outboard will serve you better from a maintenance perspective. If you have a boat lift or a trailer that you store the boat on then inboard is totally fine and enjoy the bigger transom. Also salt water vs fresh makes a huge difference too. Finally the sterndrive can often be a little bit more fun to drive due to the weight and balance plus position of the prop in the water. Not always the case but sometimes i can notice it.

      @@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Thank your for your reply. I appreciate it. Our boat is lifted out of a fresh water lake after each use and stored on a huge rack inside a warehouse, out of the elements, when not in use.
      As a kid back in the 1970s and 80s, my family first had a 16ft bow rider with a 65 hp outboard and then we upgraded to a 17ft inboard/stern drive with a 170 hp engine. The stern drive was so much better for pulling water skiers out of the water. It isn’t really fair to compare the abilities of those two boats but it is what it is. Now 45 + years later, I understand that technology has brought outboard engines a long way. Just last week I had a tour of the Sea Ray Tellico plant. It was fascinating. Really awesome. The tour guide said that more people are buying the outboards, I guess due to the fact that you do not have to winterize them.
      My opinion of outboards is tarnished by experiences from youth. I guess I will have to somehow find a 23ft Sea Ray with a powerful outboard engine and drive it to see for myself.
      You also said that fresh water lake vs ocean makes a big difference but you didn’t say which was better for the ocean. It is my understanding that these boats are really made for fresh water but they can go into salt water but flushing the engine immediately after use in salt water is necessary. Which engine do you feel is better for salt water and what is your overall opinion of using either engine in the ocean?
      Mostly the ocean is not really a consideration for me but Florida is only an 8 hour deivef and I retired at the beginning of the year so there are a couple of scenarios where I can see my trailering the boat down there and dropping it in the ocean for some fun. Obviously it can’t be used when there are large swells as you mentioned in the video, it will get swamped.

    Do you guys get Pursuit boats in Aus, Dan? If so, how are they viewed?

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  Год назад +1

      We have had Pursuit dealerships down here in the past but they have not had enough volume for much of an opinion to be formed. Brands like Grady White, Boston Whaler and Scout have been here consistently for longer so are better understood by Aussies.

    • @fearhand12
