Recovered Footage: andyTHPS Shipyard Style Line

- I came across the original capture file for this line and wanted to share the raw footage with y'all.
I tried reuploading the original .mpg directly to RUclips earlier, but the quality was even worse:

..so I had to re export it in 1440p, and this is the result.
This was the first line of its kind (as far as I know). People strung together amazing No Manual lines, Robot Lines, and Start-to-finish scoring lines from THPS1 and THPS2 eras, but no one had made a line specifically for style (that also included manuals).
I spun the wrong direction, did the wrong trick, and was derailed by misfires a few times, so I had to improvise my way back to the line and just roll with it.
This wasn't a perfect take, but it was so frustrating to capture, so I eventually settled with this one.
I had actually set aside time during THUG development to record this with pro gear, and have it as an unlockable video in THUG, but I couldn't land it in time.
I've always wondered if more people would watch this if I didn't have Dillinger Escape Plan as the background music blasting everyone's faces.
Eventually I might make a commentary video with this, but I just came across the original recording and wanted to share.

The way THPS games ramp up the score is kinda silly - Going from 100k to 500k is harder than going from 2 to 15 million
something about seeing 240p TH footage is just so amazing.

Hey Andy. You and I used to play together back on THPS3 when you had to use a certain model of a USB to Ethernet adapter since Sony didn’t release theirs yet. The good ol days!
I still have that adapter.

Early/mid 2000's games were peak gaming.
To this day this was one of the most stylish runs I've seen that got me thinking about THPS differently.
I remember you from the Delphi forums, and some of the other names. I met some of those people at the skatepark in Hackettstown, NJ. Aaron from Neversoft was there too. Have a lot of great memories of Tony Hawk Pro Skater from back then. That forum was great

i remember how in awe i was seeing this video for the first time. 13 year old me thought i was good at these games with my 100k point combos and then i see this and think “...damn, i’m garbage.” at least now i can at the very least get a couple million in a combo, really moving up in the world lol

Bro these games warped my sense of what real skating was as a kid, I would play this and watch xgames and wonder why the lines they’re doing are so bland compared to THPS/THUG, I’d also wonder why they couldn’t just walk it off and get back on the board when they’d wipe out 😂

Man.. thps4 was my first skate game. Got it for Christmas, a lot of good memories playing it.
Black borders all around was a feature of Dazzle back then. Hollywood Underground Realistic Letterbox Edition (HURLE for short).
Pretty sure PS2 video captures with black borders regardless of the capture card. The PS2 signal comes out like that to compensate for the image going off the edge of old CRT TVs. I have recorded some PS2 clips using a different capture card and got the same effect.

my whole youth I thought I was some kind of THPS god, and even though I definitely knew my stuff, and owned any school friends I played with, this line here would have given me a heart attack
I always remember playing rainbow six 3 and Vegas when this was out. Maaan Vegas and Vegas 2 we're badass. Nothing like em out at the time.

I have just recently started playing the Pro Skater Remake on Ps5 as my first Tony Hawks game. I´m like 15 in the game and cant even reach a highscore of 100k xD Around 50k points was my best score. I find it very diffcult to land tricks.

THPS4 Demo Clips were just input recordings, right?
Its the same concept as fighting game replays, as long as the version being worked on is the same, the game should be deterministic.

Skating around the spot of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 in Shipyard looks like a realistic challenge to Tony Hawk Underground 1.
This is the one Tony hawk game I never grew up playing so when I tried it, it felt like a beta for underground 1, never thought it would be so similar yet different to underground 1

My guess for the black borders is to avoid overscan.
