- Here's a look at a drum pad from the turn of the century; the Roland SPD-6 Percussion Pad!
This is a fab, easy to use drum pad packed with 113 sounds, 4 different drum kits (including the infamous Roland TR-808 sound), heaps of percussion & sound effects and even the option to create your own user pads
At the flick of a switch you can set the velocity of the pads to be played by sticks or by hand, making this very user friendly for all the desk tapping drummers out there! It even has the option of using foot switches /expression pedals to act as kick and hi-hat pedals. It also has midi out so this can be used in conjunction with an electric kit or to trigger external sounds

Hey Patrik 😀 This certainly is a fun piece of gear! Using expression pedals for the kick and hi hats really opens up how much you can get out of this machine 🥁 very accessible for non-drummers such as myself 😂

Hey man! Do you know if it is usable to play samples? Let's say I want to import from a USB key to the internal memory to start a 2:00 sample, would that work?
Hey Café Noir 😄 the SPD-6 can be used as a triggering pad for an external module, rather than uploading your own samples on to it 🥁 This link from the Roland site has some more detailed info on the capabilities of SPD-6 🙂

Is it usable for controlling external sounds from your computer - in, say, Ableton?
Hey Kristoffer :) That is a great question and not one I have answered for myself as of yet! The best source I've found for this is www.roland.com/uk/products/spd-6/ which says:
'You can even connect the SPD-6 to an external MIDI module, such as a BOSS SP-Series sampler, for dynamic triggering of sounds and phrases'
