Having suffered one record defeat to Fiji, the fledgling Micronesia team lost even more heavily in their final group game, defeated 46-0 by Vanuatu, with Jean Kaltack scoring a record 16 goals. With Micronesia having lost so heavily in their opening games, Vanuatu were faced with the seemingly difficult task of having to score a minimum of thirty goals in order to stand a chance of progressing to the next round of competition. However, the team, ranked 200 in the world at the time,found themselves 24-0 ahead at half time having scored three more goals by that stage than Fiji had managed in their game.
Tony Kaltack opened the scoring in the second minute, but by the end of the game, Tafea striker Jean Kaltack was the top scorer in the match with 16 goals. Tony Kaltack increased his tally by a further five goals in the match, Bill Nicholls and Barry Mansale scored ten and six goals respectively while Dalong Damalip's hat-trick, Abraham Roqara's two and one each for Brian Kaltack, Nemani Nikiau, Zicka Manuhi and Chris Andrews rounded out the scoring

Context explains a lot (I actually thought this was some sort of match fixing). There are different cultures all around the world, sometimes we're so self-absorbed that we fail to see the different realities from other countries. Good for them to at least participate and enjoy the journey.

I did question that, but I suppose as this was part of a league, and as goal difference could well be a deciding factor, it was only fair to add it on! I was watching a game a while ago in one of the regional Bulgarian leagues, and the ref blew for full time about 10 minutes early once the score had got to 10-0! Lol! The football equivalent of throwing the towel in!

The fact that they stood firm and finish the game has already earned my respect. They knew they're gonna get trashed in that competition, they did get trashed just a couple of days ago by a different opponent, and just minutes into games they're already getting trashed by today's opponent, but they still come and play until the end. Lets be real, most ppl would've forfeited after the 1st match or worse abandoned the match midway after 10 or so goals.
And they did it for 3 games!

The reason this happened was because it was the final game of the group for Vanuatu, and after Tahiti beat Micronesia 30-0 and Fiji beat them 38-0 days later, Vanuatu had to hope for the following: Beat Micronesia by at least 38 goals, then hope that Tahiti could beat Fiji in the next match so that Vanuatu qualified for the knockout stage on goal difference. Immediately after the match, Tahiti and Fiji went onto the field and the game ended 0-0. Fiji went through to the knockout stage and Vanuatu's efforts ultimately were for nothing.

Necesitaban ganar por mucha diferencia porque ya Tahiti le había ganado 30-0 a Micronesia y Fiji le había ganado 38-0. por eso era el momento para aprovechar y meter la mayor cantidad de goles y así tener una diferencia de gol que les diese una ventaja en caso de igualdad de puntos. Igual no les sirvió, terminaron terceros del grupo.

What happened between minutes 74 and 89? A full 15 minutes without a goal, yet they are averaging a goal every two minutes over the match.
Edit: I watched the full version and for these 15 minutes...the first 5 were spent having a water break, the next 5 with V having lots of shots saved or going wide...the next few minutes with M defending with some success (and even setting up a counter attack), before returning to V getting lots of shots again.
Also V just needed around 40 goals and stopped super intense pressing after that
