Salut Emma. One book I heartily recommend for beginners is French in 10 minutes a day authored by Kershul and put out by Bilingual Books Inc. It has a digital download of interactive modules, sticky labels, games, quizzes and flash cards. It's $34.95 in the US. And no I don't get anything for the recommendation. It' a complete language learning kit! Fun too!
Bonjour Emma. This is jim from Cicero, NY. I get a sense you are challenging me with your video as to language learning techniques. I agree with much of what you are saying. Feb. 2024 was a roller coaster for weather and under the weather. I'll be messaging more as time goes on about acquiring the french canadian language. Numerous youtube videos are helpful to learn and acquire language skills in a target language. Nat in Montreal, Virginie in France is also a good source. Shea Jordan offers valuable techniques for language learning. Of course the best methods are what is best for you, and you may message me in french, not just in your native language. BTW, I have the Google talking translator app, and I also use Mango, plus french with my Google home mini assistant to interact with. Au revoir.
@emlanguages Emma, Je suis desole pour les longs messages. I am sorry for the long messages. Je les garderai courts a partir de maintenant. I will keep them short from now on. Jim in Cicero, NY USA
Another great video Emma! Thank you. I love to speak with my pets in Spanish and French. It's a great way for me to try out new vocabulary and they never correct me. Good luck with your break.
High sounding words such as motivation and goal, are part of the skeleton of language learning. What adds meat to the bones? For motivation I have joined the Sutton Heritage Historical Society, and the Potton Heritage Association. Those are predominately french speaking areas. Francophone speakers. Plus I have ancestors that lived and died in those areas. One person was in the American Revolution. I can now interact with french speakers who are also bilingual. The motivation element now has substance by way of an ancestral link. Motivation locked down. What I am suggesting then, is establishing a network through historical societies that can also help with my language learning! Goals to be discussed in another message.
Hello madam I am a Sri Lankan I am learning lot of things from your videos. Your discussions are very clear and your pronunciations are very interesting and clear. Thank you!😊😊😊
Emma, my location was not the best for viewing a total eclipse, I was prepared with proper viewing eyewear. It was an emotional experience, the eerie coloration of the sky, the chilliness of the temperature drop, streetlights going on, birds flying back to trees, it's been said no man is MT. Rushmore, I definitely got misty eyed even viewing the effects of totality. I experienced at least the effects of a major event and saw the wondrous event through the computer youtube news videos. I am older, so what I experienced was the right choice, and no careless activity leading to eye damage. As the sun is reborn, maybe people will change for the better over time. Be well Emma.
Salut Emma. French is a different planet, and the Anglophone type person needs to be familiar with the metric system. I hear Quebec province folks purchase gas by the liter. BTW, NSSAR has invited me to a luncheon lecture April 6th. That's the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. And of course Quebec province is where my "ancestor" lived and also fought in the American Revolution. Sutton and Potton Quebec are now predominately french speaking. It jives, and the language puzzle for me fits together. I didn't learn much grammer until the 7th grade. I suggest french could be acquired without learning much grammer!
The first few steps may be the most critical and take the longest to establish a study routine once the goal and motivation are nailed down. A minimum goal of A1 fluency over one year could be a baseline goal. The thing is that adults working plus those who have families are out of the daily routine of study like high school or college, and that grind is remembered as drudgery, and have gotten out of that habit. If people get sick that will throw them off. Learn French to achieve A1 level in 1 year. Motivation could be that ancestors lived in a french speaking area. Motivation plus goal over 1 year nailed down. What resources to use, and how to divide time up among reading, writing, listening, and speaking, which needs to be applied on a daily basis is the real problem. Also cementing the information for long term retrieval for spontaneous responses as a 1st language is the ultimate challenge, and that is true fluency. How does one practice interacting with the target language if there are no native speakers around? I will respond in future messages.
How is Em. doing, with french? It's a slow process. Try the 5 minute method. Whatever hobby or interest. Even exercise, say to yourself, I am going to read, or exercise a minimum if 5 minutes a day, for 5 or 6 days a week. See how that goes. If it goes longer great! And record by writing down in a journal, your start and finish time, and what you did. Try that!
Em, French has been slow, but I am a member of the Sutton Heritage Historical Society, and the Potton Heritage Association. Both are predominately french speaking. Francophones, therefore I need to learn the language. I recently bought the Oxford Picture Dictionary, for English/french by Norma Shapiro, and Jayme Adelson-Goldstein. Check it out. Bought it from Barnes and Noble.
Hey 👋 to start with thank you for your video 😊then I second that when you said not just memories but use them however if you are a perfectionist like me who when I watch and listen to a video or anything and jot down every single word from , how should I practice them with my long list of around 50 see more. I got overwhelmed. Some help 😅 Have a good day 🌸
Hi!! I understand you, I was struggling with perfectionism in language learning for some time as well, until I realized that it just holds you back from progressing in the language. When you’re watching series and shows, try to understand the main idea. There’s no need to take note of EVERY word, just phrases and words that are most relevant to you! Try not to get too caught up by wanting to understand everything ☺️
We do want to get past See Spot run. Run Run Run. Adults can elevate their game. But we all need to start simple!😊 Let's bring our language learning to the next level!
Salut Emma. You are using a teacher's lingo and maybe speaking more in terms of theory. Learn or acquire words for long term retention so as to be spontaneous in the correct situation. This is early basic fluency. Where are the restrooms? Where are the men's or women's restrooms? Note a restroom may be a bathroom or toilettes. Culture makes a difference. Where can I buy gas? Relevancy may be the first requirement after learning the alphabet. Personal connection is the cousin to relevancy, spelling, how the word sounds, context is how the word is used. Structure is related to the dirty word grammer, and purposely putting it last. Your video is food for thought. Emma you are opening a can of worms. Great videos tho, please keep making them. Remember diagramming sentences back in junior high?
Salut Emma. Don't be gone too long. Some of your viewers live in the path of totality for the April 8th solar eclipse. Cicero. NY could see some of it, depending on the weather. It is barely in the path, the far eastern part, Oswego, NY, Rochester, and Watertown, NY even better views potentially !
Salut Emma. News from the homeworld, US. 1 winner in Powerball from Oregon. 1.33 Billion. Don't know if the person played the power play extra which was 3. Conflicting weather sources, could be cloudy for the eclipse, the mantra is stay safe.

Bonjour Jim! Thank you for recommending those French resources, I’ve been needing some new materials to stay motivated!
@emlanguages Emma, Je suis desole pour les longs messages. I am sorry for the long messages. Je les garderai courts a partir de maintenant. I will keep them short from now on. Jim in Cicero, NY USA
Bonjour Emma. Mango has an audio voice record feature and a person can compare their voice to a native speaker.
Bonjour Emma. Je vis dans la meme ville ou Breanna Stewert a grandi. I live in the same town where Breanna Stewert grew up. Jim in Cicero, NY USA
Another great video Emma! Thank you. I love to speak with my pets in Spanish and French. It's a great way for me to try out new vocabulary and they never correct me. Good luck with your break.
Right! You don’t have to be embarrassed talking to them, they won’t judge you if you make a mistake. Thanks, I’ll be back soon ☺️

Hola, Emma.
Hola Edgar!
I recommended 2 picture language books. French in 10 minutes a day, and the Oxford picture dictionary book.
Short simple sentences for example, Data in Star Trek has a brief conversation in french with a card gambler. I try to imitate them.!

Please keep up and bring more videos it helps me a lot ❤
Hi! I appreciate the comment, it motivates me to keep creating. Stay tuned 😉

I’ll still be here! Posting shorts :) take care
Well how is Em doing with french? Yes as an adult, learning a new language can be difficult. As Steve Kaufman relates, The Fog will eventually lift!
Nice 👍
Thanks! ☺️
Is that you in the Ai chat bot , teacher Emma? I subscribed there.😅
Noooo hahaha 😅
Can you explain 'until' and 'by'? I await your response nice girl
Salut, Em. Quoi de neuf? Understand differences between A demain, A tout A l'heure, and A la prochaine? Basic, but a little tricky. Au revoir.

Em, chanter comme une casserole? Do you sing like a pan? The things you learn from Virginie. ! Are you a bad singer? 😅
You look like my first love. Can we meet with you? Where are you from?
Well that’s weird lol

I meant you are so beautiful.
Em, I think you are getting too deep for beginners.
