The red/white color way is awesome. They look like baseball cleats. (I had white/red Brooks cleats and white/red Brooks basketball shoes (Dominique Wilkins) when I was a young fella.
I've been using the Caldera 3 for about 400km as I've started my trail running passion. They've been pretty good, but on technical terrain they're really lacking. Not enough grip, too soft and floaty. I think a few falls I've had were just due to this. Gonna try switching to the Altra Olympus 4.0 next and see if they support my goal of my first trail half marathon this August in the Pyrenees.
My first Caldera was the 2. I now have the 4. I got the 4 because my podiatrist wanted me to get a stiffer shoe and I liked the cheap price at the Brook’s Outlet in Bothell. I like it so far!
Really interested in this review as I loved the fit and feel of the caldera 5 but found the durability of the upper significantly lacking. After buying back to back pairs each tore through the upper on the inside of the shoe, from the joint with the sole upwards around the ball of my feet. The bummer was each time under 400kms (about 250 miles in). I noticed though it seemed your pair had the reinforcement continue further than mine, protecting the failure point I experienced? Perhaps I should check out if there’s some kind of update but sadly I think I’ve moved on already
Hi guys, I have knees problems on approx. 10km and i'm looking for shoes that support me. Those Brooks seems perfect for cushioning, do you think are better than Nike pegasus trail 3? Thanks for your help.
Just ordered a pair yesterday. The black and orange color way though. I tried version four on a few months ago, and it seemed roomy. Did not try the fives on, so I really hope it fits like previous version.
I always love The Ginger runner reviews. Even though I am not a trail runner. Love your articulant approach to expressing the merits of running shoes. Now, my request for a future review, have you heard about what Puma has done with their new lineup of road shoes? I always scoffed at Puma for only making fashion shoes. Now they have created the Nitro lineup that's really turning heads. They've got my interest big time. Could you delve into the Velocity or Liberate? I'd love to hear what The Ginger Runner has to say. Thanks.
Weird comment. I got a little distracted whenever you turned your head and your hair looked like it had a light shining down on it. Not a big deal. It just caught my eye a few times. Great review always!
The life of the Caldera family sounds very similar to the Cliftons. The first model was way better than the following ones. Then the Clifton 6 came; maybe the next Cald will be mega 😊
Brook's problem is reinventing the wheel every year. They come out with killer shoes like the early Ravennas and Cascadia 8-12, and then try to make drastic changes. I'm still pissed about the minimal tongue change in the Cascadia. I would pay like $700 for a mint vintage Ravenna. I think they switched management and went through a crisis of trying to get into the mall walker fashion market like the junk range nikes you find at mall outlet shops.
Put me in the liked-the-1-3-hate-the-new-ones category. I did my first ultras in the 1. I can’t even run in the 4. Too stiff. Too sloppy. Too soft. My soleus fight them and by mile 10 want to quit.
As much as i scorn the solid mainstream offerings i can't be cynical as i'll probably be wearing an iteration of this about the same time i think about booking a prostate examination. Until then i'll wear mismatched socks, sneer at skim lattes, and chase shiny objects.
Brooks make really heavy duty trail shoes. I have 2 pairs of the Cascadia 16's. I use them hiking mountains and running trails
I’m using them for a seven mile race tomorrow
YAY, a Kim and Gus introoooooooo
How are these for road running ??
I share your opinion on the heritage of the caldera. I really liked a lot of things about the first 2 versions.
The red/white color way is awesome. They look like baseball cleats. (I had white/red Brooks cleats and white/red Brooks basketball shoes (Dominique Wilkins) when I was a young fella.
Best shoes i have ever worn!
Had the caldera 1. Good show for a rail trail but not much else. This sounds like a better version. I’m a fan of not feeling the ground.
Had 2 pairs of the OG Caldera.. Great except the tread sucked.. Just got the 5 today, black..
Used to love brooks but they have forgotten us with wide feet. People who have wide feet can trail run, run far and run fast.
Me too, that's why I'm very often a New Balance guy
Yeah, I really wanted to love the Cascadia, but just not wide enough.
Yeah we should get more attention. Hello Brooks, Salomon. Volume n width please 💪
@@LifeInTheLongRun salomon is allways narrow 👟
I enjoyed the Caldera 3. Became my go too choice for easy trail / road to tral miles and racing anything longer than 50km in the trail.

Almost seems like a good light hiker.

it’s 100, now.., so I do that now.., as opposed to getting the 6, which is now out .., hmmm, try at 140, buy at 100 ??
You’ve mentioned the North Face endurus again......I’m expecting the new ones delivered on Tuesday

The lacing system looks like weak point as well, I can tighten up my laces and probably rip those fabric lace holders
Thank you for sharing your opinion, and happy easter!
I really loved the first version too. I’ve bought 3 pairs of them (if anyone can see a UK 9.5 online I’m opened to pair no. 4)
I have the Caldera 3's. A good shoe but not my first choice. Hoka Challenger is usually my pick
for the trails around me.

i love the red colorway. that's a major reason I would buy it. Sounds like a solid shoe. A little heavy but otherwise pretty good.
Just ordered a pair yesterday. The black and orange color way though. I tried version four on a few months ago, and it seemed roomy. Did not try the fives on, so I really hope it fits like previous version.
I'm really enjoying the Caldera 4-5 along with the Catamount
They make a good combo - caldera for long slogs, catamount for precision speed!
Which would have more cushion? I run a golf club (all kinds of terrain) and on my feet at least 8 hours daily
@@Ben-qb4lj Calderas will have more cushion. The Catamount is best for rocky (tech) terrain.
@@andrewsilva7635 Thank you
I ran in version 1 & 3, felt they bottomed out quickly for me. Got a pair of version 4, but haven't run in them yet.
Oh man. Ethan got that new Rabbit stuff. Now I have the itch to buy some

That shoe looks like it would hold water like a bucket! Some of the shoe footage was in the rain - what was the drainage like?

Never worn a Caldera.
He lives
We miss ya bruh
Miss ya bruh
They do the Catamount... that sounded like what you were after?
Is it weird that I watched the intro 5 times?
It's the 6th time that gets weird
It means that you have a crush on him.
Is more cushioned caldera or hoka stinson?

what is your shoe size?
I like caldera 4 more then Hoka Speadgoat. Very similar but Brooks is more durable.
Its a shame they only come in Medium width
How many miles do you run in this shoes?
Real question: is it thick or THICC?
theeyacck
Hmmmm.., a trail shoe begs a question about the traction? Quality in muddy/rocky/sandy/wet/dry conditions?
I mention grip, it good!
God I miss Costco samples...

Not a huge fan of Brooks in terms of looks. Is it just me?
👏🏻😅✌🏻🔝👍🏻🇧🇷
