You are such a brilliant educator. I'm studying at the University of Cape Town and I'm in a 3rd year IR class and my lecturer explained constructivism in such a terrible way. You cleared things up for me so much and you're an absolute joy to listen to!
I could not agree more, I had to read 3 different readings each being 20+ pages because my Prof could not explain it past 3 minutes! this video probably the reason I hope I pass this course! You really know how to teach its an amazing ability to have, stay safe and god bless.
You are such an amazing professor, our lecturer explained these theories so vaguely it was impossible to understand, thank you for all the examples, really helpful, absolute pleasure watching you teach!
Thank you for unpacking Constructivism, your explanation and the examples from current international politics, make the theory relatable and easy to grasp.
Super helpful & engaging; the reading we were assigned was impossible, I'm so thankful to have found you! You've got a new subscriber in me! I look forward to learning more from you, thank you so much for sharing with those of us that can't get to you (I'm stationed overseas, dependent on online coursework.) Thanks again!
Hi I found your explanations and lecture very helpful and interesting. I’m studying History and IR at the University of Dundee in Scotland and your video from the other side of the world was significantly better and more helpful than any of the resources or lectures I had been given so I’m grateful to you for uploading this 👍
Hello Mihael, i find your lecture interesting. I am also working on Social Constructivism and Public Diplomacy. Constructivism can shape and reshape socially constructed reality. Natural reality is beyound the ambit of social constructivism. What i find lack in social constructivism is the way in which intersubjective sharing of meaning, ideas and identity could be internalised among the international actors and non-state acors in the contemporary time. Anyway, your lecture was enlightening. Thanks.
Thank you so much for the video. I'm a business student who is struggling with a constructivism final essay for my international relations elective. This lecture helps a lot!
Good to have a such interesting constructivist theory lesson. My IR lesson in China is so different with Western world. Chinese IR theory always debate on classical tribute system or aggressive realism, even we share a lot of knowledge about constructivist it never been so impactful as this lesson. Indeed I can’t agree more, other factor influenced a states character.
Thank you very much for your vote of confidence! I can understand the "classical" approach to IR, and there's certainly merits to the Realist School in this day and age. But I have to admit that I'm more and more a fan of the Constructivist "mod" because it qualifies a lot of nuance in the foreign policy of states that can act one way towards one country and another towards a second. This is particularly true of the haphazard way the United States conducts its foreign policy that may seem double-standard to many outside observers.
For one, Constructivism relies on image, identity, and perceptions, which can often be misperceived by other international actors. Additionally, it seems what's more important is what State B perceives State A to be, rather than what State A wants to be seen as. Perceptions and misperceptions have been at the forefront of deciding international alliances and rivalries.
@@MichaelRossiPoliSci Prof, I had just reread the “Anarchy” article prior to watching this as a refresher for my MA. You’re a great lecturer. Should’ve applied at Rutgers lol.
@@MichaelRossiPoliSci @Michael Rossi Poli Sci I really appreciate the videos on IR. thank you SO much! you are the only person who managed to explain this subject to me. i was completely lost otherwise.
The opening music makes it appear like we're going to war and not just studying IR.
It's the type of music I played in class in the 15 - 20 minutes before class began over the speak systems to get everyone pumped :)
This was so useful, thank you so much. Really professionally done and insightful on the subject. The key points written out really work in my opinion.
You are very welcome! So glad to know this helped you out!

What would you say are the limitations of constructivism?

This was really useful! Would you say that the UN Human right council is working from a constructivism perspective and how?
This was really helpful. I'm glad I checked this out :)

Ah indeed. We tend to use one name as a synonym for the other; in the same way we used to say "Russia" for the "Soviet Union." Thanks for the tip!
