  • Some people have been claiming John Wick 4 is not only the best action film of the year, but one of the best action films ever made.
    Does this reviewer agree?
Let's talk about my honest thoughts on John Wick 4 and see.
While these are flashy, explosive action films with awesome fight choreography, camera work, production design and stunts, these films have been leaving me feeling empty.
    Is it just me?
I think I'm overly critical of screenplays in general but this one really offered me nothing.

everything you said is exactly what i found to be the problem since the second film - the world of assassins just comes up as contrived as something that was made to be a backdrop for the flashy set pieces. JW is damn near a superhero instead of what he was in the first film - a man who was one of extraordinary will despite the regular challenges before him.

You really nailed it. He really becomes superhuman at this point. Some of the injuries he suffered in this film had me rolling my eyes. The "man who was one of extraordinary will despite the regular challenges before him" is now just a high level guy with bones of steel lolol. I guess this works for some people but I really miss the realistic vibe of the original.

Great review! I hadn't watched the second and third and yeah was pleasantly surprised when I could switch my brain off. The scene on the stairs was particularly difficult to get through haha

Thanks so much! I think it could have been better for me if I hadn't seen 2,3 the day before watching this. lol and yeah a world of assassins but that staircase was his downfall? Legendary haha

Yeah I don’t care for this franchise and this commentary just speaks on the things I dislike about the franchise.

What are some action movies you'd recommend?

The Mission impossible films, Mad Max Fury Road, Edge of Tomorrow, The Raid movies, Die Hard, A Bittersweet Life, Zhang Yimou's movies, Hard Boiled. I'm sure I can think of some more obscure ones but that's just off top of my head

While I was originally swept up by the spectacle of all this crazy action, I think you have a good point about the plot overall. I think Stahelski is more focused on pushing the stunts to extremes

Thanks man! And I can agree with that, but when it comes to elevated stunts, I'd say my heart stays with the Mission Impossible series!

Thanks for the honest review,! You voiced all the complaints I have about this movie. I feel like I'm crazy cause everyone else loves the movie while ignoring all these major flaws.

My pleasure Alan. I swear I thought the same thing! haha. I was wondering why everyone is so quick to love this and call it the greatest action film ever made when it's just so shallow to me.
