As someone who owns both the Fiesta and Mazda 2 (both same year) I can say the Mazda 2 is a lovely wee car, but the Fiesta is a much much nicer car overall. Its quieter, better riding, better interior, more comfortable and supportive seats and is way more refined whilst managing to handle just as well. The Fiesta actually grips better too thanks to the standard Continental tyres rather than the mid range Toyo's that Mazda fit. Reliability wise, both have been on par.
I've owned all kinds of cars, most of them performance-oriented. My name might hint that I spent some serious time in a WRX. More recently, I had an '09 Civic Si, which I owned for three years, and which left me unsatisfied. Two weeks ago, I drove a friend's Mazda 2 on some mountain roads. I couldn't stop. I kept saying "just one more corner!" So, yesterday, I went to the dealer, and traded my Si, plus $300, for a Mazda 2, and I couldn't be happier. This is a real driver's car.
I have a Mazda2 and I love it! These guys got it right -- the Mazda2 is more about driving enjoyment, while the Fiesta is more about comfort and style. Despite having a less powerful engine, the Mazda2 is indeed faster than the Fiesta. And to answer those calling for more high-tech features, beginning with the 2013 model, Mazda has added a USB audio port and made Bluetooth an available option on the Mazda2.
How can they recommend the Honda 'Fit' over those two cars! Here in the UK its called the Honda Jazz and its a firm favourate with old people! At least the Mazda and Fiesta had a sleek modern look about them. The Jazz just looks like a block on wheels
At the end of the day, Fiesta is the one who want gadgets, comfort and decent handling in a car, Mazda 2 may not have the tech, but when you have slick gear shifts and great handling, you would actually forgive it for lacking tech. Although everyone has their own opinion, I understand people's preferences.
I own both the Mazda2 and the Fiesta. The Mazda2 is a great car - I really like driving it - but it is not faster than the Fiesta at everything. 0 to 60mph, yeah my 2 beats my Fiesta. However, the 2 has really high gearing so its in gear flexibility is poor. As a result, our Fiesta beats our 2 (quite easily) on a race from 30 to 70 whilst holding the same gear. The Fiesta also rides much smoother and handles just as sporty as the 2. In fact, the Fiesta rolls ever so slightly less in the corners.
Eye of the beholder, I guess. The Fiesta's outside ugliness is trumped by the Ferenghi-looking dash. I couldn't look at that all day. Give me the simplicity of the Mazda2.
The Ford does have all the techie stuff, but you can plug any smartphone (ie iphone, blackberry, andriod) up through the auxillary input and use it as an mp3, external radio, and hands free communication. That might sound prehistoric to you, but it works! PLUS the aux cord only cost about 9 bucks, compared to the extra $2000 or so for the upgrades.... I'm not into all the gadgets, I just need a fun, safe, reliable ride that doesn't break the bank! I'm sure school loans will do enough of that!
Driving feel and fun is something Americans are only beginning to discover. The Hondas and Toyotas of the world are great for what they're made to do; be a driving appliance. They get you from 'A' to 'B' but they're not very fun. If that's what you want, that's great. If you're looking to have fun, look at the Ford Fiesta and Mazda2 for moderate reliability, good looks, fun, and practicality..
I own a Mazda 2. Already did Germany - John O' Groats and Germany - North Cape with it. It's a very reliable, well balanced car - not a supercar - but I didn't expect to get one from my student's budget, anyway.
I drove Fiesta and Mazda 2 but I must say Fiesta better in term on handling and gadget. For great performance hatchback I pick Suzuki Swift. The handling, the speed are really great. Fiesta handling nearly as good as Swift Sport.
Buy the Ford, I've got one and It's fantastic!!! Drove everything in its class, did all my research and talked with as many people within the market as I could and the Ford was a clear winner. Take your advice from an actual owner, not these Top Gear wannabe's!
in all fairness, keyless start, bluetooth ect are all optional extras on fiestas in the U.K. and if you add them to the starting price for a fiesta it's a high price. Mazda 2 is a basic car for your money you get what you pay for..bluetooth kits are cheap to buy and install.
I have driven both the Fiesta And Mazda2. UK models I will add. Overall the Mazda2 is the better handling and teched out car (If you get the correct model) Mine is the uk Sport 1.5 and has more tech in it than my girlfirends mums top range Fiesta. They are both nice place to be but the 2 just feels much crisper. I agree with it feels like an MX-5 I should know my dad has one and we both agree our cars feel fantastic on the road. Both the Fiesta and 2 are great but the fiesta is a bit to common.
They share a common platform, as Ford used to be a major shareholder in Mazda at the time they were designed. However I can assure you they are not the same car. The Fiesta is bigger and heavier, they have different engines, different suspension setups and they feel different to drive. The Fiesta feels more refined whilst the Mazda is more lively. Fiesta feels under powered. Both have steering which feels too light and over-assisted. The 3 door Fiesta looks much better than the 5 door version.
Good choice. If I were choosing between the two, I would have opted for performance over "comfort" as well. I mean, let's get real. Are we performance enthusiasts or not? I don't even buy the "Fiesta is better looking" argument. I think the Mazda is leaner, tauter looking. I agree that the Honda Fit is a better choice than the Fiesta. To me the Mazda 2 and Honda Fit are a toss up.
I drove both cars, and believe mazda 2 is by far better. Mazda sticks on the road. Fiesta has so much body roll. And in my opinio mazda looks better especial
Zippy, no, they're not made in the same place. The have the common "platform", and so they are really similar in size/style, but the internals are different, engines are different, transmissions are different, amenities are different.
@metroperson I agree with you. Other guys may think I am anti-American. You guys are wrong. I am using Japanese products most of the time bcos they are easy to use. Cars like Peugeot and Ford controls are very tight and sloppy, not good to use. If I got a Ford FIesta as a present , I 'll say THANK YOU VERy MUCH and accept it, then sell it off later. HAHA. I still prefer the Mazda 2 Hatchback.
I have owned imports, and domestics. While I haven't driven the Mazda2 I have test drove the Fiesta. As a former Mazda 323 and Mazda RX7 owner I have a bit of love for Mazda's. However looking at the Mazda2 just does nothing for me. Its Interior seems dull, and its options are just few and far between. The Fiesta is that middle ground. Decent looks, nice power, and frankly better pricing with its available options. I am excited to see what the Fiesta ST has and maybe my next car choice.
so I ended up buying the Mazda2 with the 5-speed....and I love the car.....and yes I did try out the Fiesta and Fit...and yes even the Yaris, just to be sure....
The voice controlled system they show in the Fiesta is an option, not standard. They also didn't mention that the Fiesta was Ford's most popular model in 2011. I think Mazda3 is more popular that the Mazda2. I've had my Fiesta SE for 1yr and I've never had this "glare" problem that reviewers talk about. The only major problems I have with it is it hates hills, and dirt collects on the bottom rim of the hatch. Other than that It's comfortable and good looking, and it was reasonably priced.
The Ford Fiesta was designed by Ford's European arm, not in America, and as far as innovation and making up "our own ideas" goes, I'm afraid recent history shows that US car manufacturers have been getting it seriously wrong. Ford US, GM and Chrysler were all on the brink of extinction not so long ago. Toyota must be doing something right.
I looked at all three and ended up getting the Mazda2, mostly because the Ford was out of stock. The Fit was $3 thousand more expensive then the Ford or the Mazda.
I totally not agree with Zam karim.. For me the most important thing with a car is the drivability and not the tech stuff.. Ok, it is handy, but not first priority.. And in the end Zam goes for the fit that doesnt have more techs onboard then the 2 and by far not the same drivers feeling! That sounds a bit strange to me..
Say what? The Honda? The slowest, ugliest, least sporty least fun to drive wins because of the load-carrying ability?? The Mazda 2 has a cam chain while the Fiesta has a cam belt, so at 100,000km the belt will need changing. The Mazda will be more reliable in the end too probably if you keep it a long time.
@@johnymarquez6064 The chain in my car has stood the time well (390k km and counting) and still does not need changing. The belt in my Mazda needed changing every 90k km, which means that if I took it to 390k km, I would have had to change it 4 times already! I'd much rather have a car with a chain instead of a belt. Maybe you are referring to VW's problem with their first gen TSI engines, in which they used a underdimensioned chain that stretched and killed engines. That is a design flaw that has nothing to do with reliability of cam chain drives :)
Every other review I've watched has said the fiesta has better handling and steering feedback. These guys are don't know what their talking about. Then they recommend the fit. The fit has shit handling.
I have a Mazda 2 yozora and I love it death! Very fun car to drive . Ford is dog shit I've had fords and dodges in the past and they lack the quality that imports have. The tech is a nice feature but when it comes time to fix it it's gonna cost you and knowing ford they like fucking thier customers . Mazda FTW
Toyota sucks and copies? Actually, it's Ford who copied Toyota today. Toyotas WILL last longer. Ford's only advantages are the sports car lines and the top model of trucks, not even the base F-150.
hOnda fit is recomended........why the best girl for Ya must be the shittiest, boring, ugliest, serius, and non atractive girl???? the Honda looks like a dam box on wheels no matter how many groceries You can put in the trunk nor the space for very ocasional passengers.... its boring!!!! my money wont go there Im sticking around wiht the blonde Fiesta
So weird how videos from 2010 now give off 90s vibes
As someone who owns both the Fiesta and Mazda 2 (both same year) I can say the Mazda 2 is a lovely wee car, but the Fiesta is a much much nicer car overall. Which year are your cars ? I heard the after the facelift in 2010 mazda 2 got an suspension tweak. Also which feels quicker ?
I've owned all kinds of cars, most of them performance-oriented. My name might hint that I spent some serious time in a WRX. More recently, I had an '09 Civic Si, which I owned for three years, and which left me unsatisfied.

What are the ford's Fiesta issues?
The Mazda appears to be the struts and steering

Great job guys, very professional and it's clear to me that a lot of effort went into your comparison and easy to understand conclusion. Thanks!
I appreciate the effort you two put into the video and and I admire you two for the production so I liked it👍 beyond me why people have so much hate
I drive a Fiesta and have driven a mazda 2. I chose the fiesta for the sync and overall it's an awesome car. no regrets on the purchase
It depends on your priorities. The Fiesta rides smoother, while the Mazda is more sporty.
How can they recommend the Honda 'Fit' over those two cars! Here in the UK its called the Honda Jazz and its a firm favourate with old people! At least the Mazda and Fiesta had a sleek modern look about them. The Jazz just looks like a block on wheels
My favorite part is the recommendation for the fit at the end, haha.
At the end of the day, Fiesta is the one who want gadgets, comfort and decent handling in a car, Mazda 2 may not have the tech, but when you have slick gear shifts and great handling, you would actually forgive it for lacking tech. Probably they need more space?
Thatever, the fit sport looks unique and sharp on the street.

I have decided to get a Mazda 2 after seeing this....
mazda car always smile......

so the mazda2 is lacking tech? pretty normal if u compare a base spec 2 vs a full option fiesta...
I have owned imports, and domestics. While I haven't driven the Mazda2 I have test drove the Fiesta. As a former Mazda 323 and Mazda RX7 owner I have a bit of love for Mazda's. Neither mentioned that bith cars share the same platform essentially making them the same car.
why am i watching this? i dont even know how to drive..
thats an awesome way to do a review. very "top-gear" keep it up
so I ended up buying the Mazda2 with the 5-speed....and I love the car.....and yes I did try out the Fiesta and Fit...and yes even the Yaris, just to be sure....
Michael Cera called. He want's his little brother back..

i havent driven the mada2, but i can tell you my fiesta has very little body roll and is amazing in the corners for what it is.
Honda Fit has great handling and corners great.

Cool video!
Why are eco boxes so girly lookin...who ever makes a manly lookin eco box will have a top seller.

The Mazda 2 has a cam chain while the Fiesta has a cam belt, so at 100,000km the belt will need changing. The Mazda will be more reliable in the end too probably if you keep it a long time.

Agree with the fiesta gearbox, i tested it
DIDN’T SEE THAT COMING
That fiesta wasnt even close to the same price range as the 2.
Both cars are made in the same place they are both the same car with different features.
And boom goes the dynamite.
What the f*ck. Thought this vid was purely between the 2 and the Fiesta. -___-
don't like shifting the 3rd gear on the fiesta
i m hapi wif my mazda 2, when its cornering its stable n smooth.
In the uk the fiesta is a 5 start car and the mazda is a 2 star...
More room in the tale gate !!!!
Every other review I've watched has said the fiesta has better handling and steering feedback. These guys are don't know what their talking about. Then they recommend the fit. The fit has shit handling.
fiesta all the way i have my girl on the drive now
fiesta only
Omg honda fit is the car that is the most unsafe out there!Gaz tank is right under the driver and front passenger!LOL
The last part was stupid. But seriously who says Maz-duh? It's Moz-duh, not Maz-duh.
O_O swear this video was uploaded for review on the Ford vs Mazda.. but hey we can throw a little bit of Honda in there.. just because.. wtf??
I guess thats the american version of e honda jazz
What the hell is wrong with you? Get over yourself, he's just having some fun.
@metroperson the Mazda was brisk and tight in handling.
you remind me of top gear
thats because ford bought out mazda stole everything and droped them like yesterdays garbage
I have a Mazda 2 yozora and I love it death! Very fun car to drive . Ford is dog shit I've had fords and dodges in the past and they lack the quality that imports have. hey dorks, Ford and Mazda are equals. Take a look at the ford ranger and mazda b5000, mazda 6 and ford fusion, and Ford Focus, to the mazda 3.
@jimmypoelmanskadett ford does not own mazda they are a partners. today they only hold 11% of Mazda's shares and mazda will drop ford later on
0:41 Panel Gap
A school project? An homage to top gear? It's kinda good. Need to rehearse your lines a little more but good effort! Btw, both those cars are rubbish.
well choose ford
Fooord fiesta

Wow, did you not hear anything they said?
It's called being FUNCTIONAL

Toyota sucks and copies?
