Btw if you want free cooking oil, ask a local butcher for beef tallow, most just throw it out, and it’s typically better for you also, just carry it in a zip lock bag then add it to your cooking.

I would cry if I got to a trail head early in the morning and there was that many people 😭 I’m a reactive dog mom and I also have severe anxiety, so we avoid crowds like that as much as possible. I’ve gotten lucky in the Jemez so far even with tourist season. The other day I had a lovely swim hole in the river all to myself. After swimming we sat in the parking lot for over an hour and no one came. We did see one person on the way out and that was enough for us lol.

Your exuberance is contagious, Emma! Yes, way up in the Great Northwest, the beaches are very different from Southern California beaches. You should visit Lower Moro campground in north Laguna Beach sometime. It's situated in a canyon, and the campsites are higher up on a bluff overlooking the sparkling ocean at Crystal Cove State Beach. The campground has back trails into the canyon from easy, moderate and difficult climbs. Then to make a day even more special there's beach access underneath PCH through a pedestrian tunnel that opens out onto miles of beautiful sand and emerald surf. You would love it!! Best of both worlds for sure.
Nice beach imagery! Did the tripod fix work? If interested in backpacking on a budget, you might try second-hand outdoor gear shops. The potatoes & onions meal looked pretty delicious. 🤤
