    Congratulations! very very nice work. I like very much the way you substituted the seam channels. I made one myself to 1:1 scale. I had the same troubles as you (the plans available published online from the patent are not exact) but I managed to make the corrections.
    I gave up on 5 mm polypropilene as I was unable to bend it correctly, and I tried 3 mm thick poly. I regret that, it is not stiff enough and I am going to give it a new try on 5 mm.
    Please, could you give me some ideas on making the creasings for folding it. (i tried with a creasing tool but it cuts the poly and it is not strong enough, heating with a heat gun sometimes breaks the poly. I managed it with a hammer and a round shaped impactor, but is very laborious and the results are not cool...).
    Thank you!!!

    Good job! What thickness of coroplast you use?

  • @18magicMARKer
    @18magicMARKer 5 лет назад +3

    nice...It's like $10 worth of material, I don't know why on shark tank they say each kayak cost them $500+ which is BS in my opinion. I mean they're working with coroplast manufacture to get 16ft long and 12ft long whereas 10ft is the longest I've found online.

      I think that OruKayak is made using Solexx PRO Panels. I have priced building it with Solexx a couple of times. A 6 foot wide sheet that is 12 feet long costs around $180 plus a $50 cutting fee and shipping. That is significantly more expensive than $10. adapt8.us/solexx-greenhouse-covering/?section=panel-accessories

      @@kevind2683 No the patent shows its made with coroplast aka correx which in selco is around £10 a sheet the oru is 12ft by 5ft so i think they had to source bigger sheets but its creased and cut with machines designed to work with paper the material cost for just the base boat is tiny probably under £10 as they are buying wholesale . the mark up on the oru is a joke and its excessive

      @@kevind2683 Definitely not the same stuff (HDPE vs Polypropylene), but I'd be surprised if Solexx couldn't be used if you were so inclined. Mechanical properties are fairly comparable, and HDPE can be very, very tough. Also, it should be easier to fuse than polypropylene, which isn't THAT hard to fuse, but not as easy as some plastics.

      material costs are not all costs. plastic parts are also used and someone nauts them together in a hall, which costs electricity and insurance for the lease. Everything is not as easy as at first glance, but I can't say whether it's 99 USD or 500 USD.

    This is so cool man! But where did you get such big sheets of PP? Could only find much smaller ones online.

      @diyforge  2 года назад +1

      Yes, that's right. But you can tie two plates together. Waterproof of course.
