People were able to survive things “way back then.” You make it sound like they were cavemen or something.

I know about the shunning. My friend from NYC was hit by a fireball on his way to his office in the World Trade Center. We were on the subway and these kids from the midWest truck up s conversation with us (big mistake: Never strike up a conversation with a perfect stranger in the subway) and asked "What happened to you? Did your neck throw up your face?"
My friend, who's a native New Yorker, replied: "What happened to you? Did the Simpsons have a yard sale?"

This is another reason why you need to keep n a very close eye on your children at all times at all times to prevent something like this from happening again😢💔

To ALMOST lose a child? I DID lose a child - on Christmas morning, 1994.
People have always expected me to be happy on Christmas Day, because they've always cared more about their own damn selves than anything I might feel.
I don't celebrate Christmas Day; I celebrate Christmas Eve, and now I can even make it official since I married a German man. They celebrate Christmas Eve instead of Christmas Day.

Maybe his family celebrated on the 24th, but German Christmas is not any different than American Christmas. We have Heiligabend, which is a party/feast on the evening of Dec 24, but our Christmas Day on the 25th is when we open gifts under the Christmas Tree. Some families go to Mass or visit other family or friends later, but mostly we open presents, have Christmas meal, and the kids play with their presents while the adults clean up the dining room and have a nice nap. I'd say probably 1 out of 500 families open their gifts on Christmas Eve, which is probably the same as in America.

Why did the mom initially pray for them to die when she was at the hospital? If people are going to make fun of someone because their bodies got messed up from an accident, then those people are not people I want to associate myself with, and neither should anyone else, for that matter.

I love this show but I have to fast forward past the screams cause it really triggers my C-PTSD and hearing my best friends MIL screaming that my best friend had her babies prematurely on the bathroom floor. I was 22 then. I'm 34 now and I'll probably hear those screams for the rest of my life. What was crazy is that she was a NICU nurse and was in a full blown panic while I'm on the phone calmly but firmly being like "D I can't help you! You need to call an ambulance right now!" Luckily that brought her out of hysteria and back into nurse mode. I hung up the phone and stared at it for what seemed like 2 minutes thinking "what just happened?" (and I think I actually said "okay what the hell just happened?") Mom didn't even have time to say anything (or if she did I didn't hear it) before I was in the bathroom, door shut, puking my guts up. When I came outta the bathroom mom was in the living room holding her head in both hands and she looked up and was like "honey if I'd have known that was gonna happen I would not have let you answer the phone. But you handled yourself very well, you handled yourself better than most older adults would have." Situations like that are scary dude. I thank Rescue 911 for this (as well as my own medical emergencies. Because of them I know to stay calm because if you panic you're just gonna make the situation worse.
