It's probably familiarity. Most people know "the n-word" is bad, but "Lunar Cricket" and "Cook with a G" are so obscure that I had to actually Google them (I don't think I've ever heard either of them used, probably due to their obscurity).

@@SadderCatLin Many of them share characteristics with swear words, which have hard consonants and also usually end with them. That's why people shout "fuck!" instead of "ass!". The hard consonants make it more satisfying and impactful to say. That's my theory at least. That's also probably why some slurs stick around and others don't.
On the plus side, "milk cricket" is a perfectly fine non-racial insult to call someone.
@@spracketskoochfuck does require a second word though, just ending on ck doesn't let you get the good part in my opinion, that's why I don't say fuck. Starts with a fuh, too, a very soft sound in my opinion. Like Bastard, though, you can hold it and really emphasise the "dard!", delay it for a bit more punch. Not a swear, but "Curses!" Is good cos not only can you say it around your mother and around kids, but it's got lots of room for modification, you can make the K sound have a Guh quality, you can change Ur for Or, and you can Sh the S a little bit, for a total of a considerably phlegmier word. And that's my mark for a good curse, is how much mucus you choke on getting it out because that's how you say it with feeling. Just some remarks from a guy who doesn't swear much, though. And indeed one of the reasons is cos arse and fuck and shit don't have the texture I'd like.

From what i was able to find, the term comes from the time of the slave trade, since runaway slaves would often use moonlight to navigate the darkness because lights or torches would give away their position. So slave owners and catchers began referring to slaves like that in reference to the moonlight.

Problem is if the phantom even gets a mean enough look from the invader he just evaporates. Its really stupid and I can't understand how any low level has had real success farming runes this way.
