Trust me @ 2:48 slow down the video to 0.25x and just appreciate the color that seems to be a missed chance from Leonardo regarding the ultimate color of the pen! It's a hue of pink and looks absolutely stunning!
All Leonardo pens are amazing and absolutely beautiful, but for €300 I would expect a gold nib at least, if not a special kind of nib. At this price point Pilot and Sailor offer less exciting bodies but with a lot more exciting nibs. Thank you for the review.

I enjoy reviews on Limited Edition pens. Very useful especially when deciding to get one if ever these pens enter the used/secondhand market. Thanks David!
I believe that the reason, why water could reach the back of the piston is because the barrel is made of two pieces (not just one). Water or ink can seep between the two pieces and then it's very difficult to clean out. I've also seen someone's pen, where the water from behind reacted with the glue and the result was some weird string pattern. They sent it to Leonard and got it fixed. So, really good advice to avoid wetting these pens from their backside. Great review, as always!
These are some stunning but seriously expensive pens from Leonardo, especially when they're asking for almost $300 for a steel nib. An ebonite feed and a cool look is nice an all but not enough to really warrant the price tag (IMO), maybe Moonman will come out w/a M800 V2.
I’m sort of with you. It’s a hard sell. I’ve seen many translucent plastic pens and they’re usually given away at hotels. These are a bit too expensive for what they are to me.
@@streitschlichtunggoethegym6166 It is a steel nib, for me I feel the price is right as you are getting Leonardo's actual piston and not the captured converter and you are getting the ebonite feed.
@@streitschlichtunggoethegym6166 It's a steel nib. Emy at #penventure stated he tuned the nib before sending it to me. It writes better than some of my gold nib fountain pens. If I were blindfolded I don't think I'd be able to tell if it were made of steel or gold.
I've been on edge about buying a Leonardo pen; but i've always been turned away from the steep stepup to the barrel and the section shape that both the Momento and Furore lines have; and the only alternative is the Cuspide, which is a bit out of my budget.
There is also the Messenger, however that one might not be available anymore. It shouldn’t be more expensive than the Momento Zero line. :) But I also was wondering how comfortable the grip of the Moment Zero (Grande) would be. :)
Thank you. This was quite interesting. They are very pretty to look at. I really liked the pens you already had to show with them. You always have such good reviews. Have a great day! You are awesome! 🌟
Hi David, another great review. I too was inspired by this pen and ordered the anthracite grey. Do you know if this pen has the new jowo nib or do these have the bock? My order has not fulfilled yet.
Leonardo is like the beauty and the beast -- at least it was in my case with a Momento Zero Positano. It couldn't write (the first nib and a replacement, too!) and, it developed other problems like with the blind cap. It has been totaled it like a car crash. Buried somewhere after a nibmeister pronounced it dead.
@@user-br3sl9go3b That is some bit of sad news. For me, I have bought and sold through so many Leonardo pens. I have had every type of nib with the exception of the flex. I have not had a single issue with any of the nibs.
Actually, I just remembered that there was a nib that caused me an issue that was their music nib, I could not keep the center tine from springing. But, that has been it.
@@HisGraceHisGlory I am happy for you. Really, I am! And I think Leonardo pens (but not this model, which isn't pretty at all to me and is way overpriced) are gorgeous. That's why I bought one! I would love to have more, but heck: burn me once shame on you; burn me twice shame on me. But I am not the only ordinary customer -- not to mention a very, very popular and very frank reviewer (I still love him and watch his reviews!) -- who has had serious difficulties with Leonardo pens. You can find their complaints by scouring the web. I don't want to "overstay my welcome" or have my experience deleted on this site by posting all the links. My point is this: I lost all my money buying a Leonardo for the first serious amount I spent on a fountain pen. I feel a responsibility to say so in order to give the readers of these glorious reviews of Leonardo an alternative and real-life opinion. And I ask: How can someone sell a pen that doesn't write properly? Twice? And that has problems a nibmeister can't fix? It's a question beyond my comprehension.
I still prefer the white frosted and wish they bring it back. How does this nib write compare to the Zero Grande gold nib that made it into your top 10 nibs list? Thanks David.
Great review. What's actually the difference in writing experience with the steel (Bock) nib of Furore or Momento? Likewise the difference between all pens with a steel n6 Bock?
I had been looking at this pen and after watching I’m now getting one I usually like broad nibs but does the ebonite feed make it write broader? Getting Gray with silver
Hi David, great review as usual! I used my Ink Rewards with Pen Chalet to get the Gray Anthracite /Ruthenium. This will be my first Leonardo so I'm pretty excited! Similar to another viewer's comment, I've struggled with LOI prices when you can purchase Japanese pens with gold nibs for the same price or less. Of course they may not possess the beauty that Italian pens do but the reality is you get used to the way something looks (or someone for that matter 😄) and, in most cases, when all's said & done, the experience will be what matters & what we recall. That said, the Pura Gray Anthracite spoke to me as soon as I glimpsed it & was able to justify it with some nice discounts through Pen Chalet. Man I love them! 🥰 A little too much I'm afraid...😏 LOL 😂
I hope your experience exceeds your expectations tenfold! (Mine didn't. Leonardo was a disaster and a total loss.) But, except for these Pura models, his designs are indeed lovely! Good luck and enjoy.
@@user-br3sl9go3b Hi William, thanks for sharing your thoughts and I'm sorry you've had such crappy experiences with LOI pens. I won't lie - I've been a little wary about ordering LOI which is why this will be my first (I don't vacillate like this over Visconti for example - even with the high dollar cost for steel nib) but this one was different enough that I decided to take a chance on it. We'll see what happens. If it doesn't work out, it'll have to go back & I'll just get something more familiar & more consistently reliable. 🤷🏻♀️I won't hold on to a pen just because it looks good. 😄 I may update my comment once I have it & have evaluated further. Crossing my fingers!🤞🏻😄 Take care! 😊
Just ordered the blue. Question- will the pen look odd given it's translusence, if a color ink other than black or blue is used? I would like to use green, but don't want to make the pen look bizarre.
The ink I have in the blue right now is a dark blue green and it looks just fine. While I haven't tested it with different colors, I am thinking it will just look "dark".
Beautiful pen but I have sworn off expensive pens for a while. Someone let us know when a cheaper knock off is available. Thank you for the review nonetheless. It was excellent as are all of your reviews.
How deep is the engraving on the barrel of these pens? I really like the look of all of the Leonardo pens and I've heard universally good things about the build quality/writing experience of them. The only thing that puts me off is that engraving and I'm wondering how noticeable it is when you feel it in your hand.
The engraving is not deep at all. Plus, it is on the top of the barrel, in line with the nib...so it's not going to come in contact with your hand. At least, it doesn't for me.
Great review, David. This pen looks and sounds stunning. I know they have a gold nib option as well, but it’s double the price, placing it firmly in grail pen territory for me. Still, I’m so spoiled on gold nibs at this point (from Visconti, Lamy, and Pilot), that I’m actually tempted. Any thoughts on the gold nib and how it compares?
I dunno Dave. Seems like the price is a bit high for that finish. Shades of opaque demos. Doesn’t do it for me personally. Very nice inks though. And thanks for throwing in comparable inks as well. Great review. Very informative.
Everything on it makes sense except the utterly pedestrian steel nib. I just don't see the $300 value in a pen that's made from basic acrylic resin and with a standard JoWo nib. You can do whatever you want to a JoWo nib in the final tuning, and it will write well but be generally very flat and consistent to any other JoWo. The only "premium" material in there is an Ebonite feed, but you get an ebonite feed in a $20 noodlers konrad or free noodlers charlie. At that price, either use a factory 14k JoWo or make your own nibs with some personality. Steel nibs CAN be utterly magnificent, I think the pelikan m2xx steel nibs are better than the m40x 14k nibs in every way. Japanese vintage "shiro" semiflex nibs are dripping with personality and lots of semiflex action. I've got nothing against a steel nib in a high end pen, but if you're charging more than $100, that steel nib better be a hell of a lot more than a basic catalogue JoWo with your logo etched in it. It's not even technically that hard. You could get an Eureka pen for about $150 that's made to an outrageously high level of fit and finish, from solid ebonite, with a custom ebonite feed and a large #6 sized COMPLETELY CUSTOM, hand made nib made from gold or his own proprietary alloy of silver (which I have, and it's incredible) Even visconti's bock made palladium nibs were special. Sure, 3/4 of them had appalling quality control, but when you got a working one, they were otherworldly. Nibs sell pens for me. Everything else is just there in service of the part that actually does the writing. Someone needs to bring back the Wahl Doric adjustable nibs. I don't know if you're interested in vintage reviews of unique pens, David, but I'd be willing to loan you a vac-fill Wahl Doric in their unbelievable grass-green celluloid with a 12 way adjustable nib that goes from nail EF to wet noodle 2mm. That pen is a shining example of what could be done, but we just don't.
My Leonardo Momento Zero Positano couldn't write! Brand new. Two, not just the first one, nibs were useless. Other problems arose, too, with the blind cap. Sent it to a nibmeister who declared it dead on arrival! Absolutely worthless. I told them it belongs buried nearby next to the infamous robber John Dillinger in Crown Hill cemetery.
Those three pens are outstanding and if I was to pick any pen from Leonardo, it would be the MZG with a piston filler! Blue is my favourite of the trio!
You want to pronounce oranje as o ran ye instead of o ran and a French "je". The color of the royal family. I am Belgian, Walloon, and I live in Brussels.

Very nice pens with nice colours and materials. The stub nib is a favourite along with flex nibs.
The nib is aligned with the clip because the nib is aligned with the engraving on the barrel as is the cap.
