I was angry! I tried to get in the queue on time, but the website was already breaking down. "We are expecting a high volume of orders..." Then then wen i was finally in the process of ordering, the queue was paused. I was in contact with a colleague who also tried to buy, using his cell phone and PC at the same time. We actually managed to buy something with one account after 2.5 hours waiting. Several pieces were already sold out, we could not buy what we actually wanted. I've never experienced anything like this before, and I've already bought a few Secret Lairs. Got Several Screenshts.
Apparently I lucked the hell out and managed to get a foil bundle without cutting the line. I feel bad for anyone that got cut out of the line by bots and a-holes.
Probably the worst experience ordering Secret Lairs to date. I was there logged in and knew what i wanted before the sale went live. I clicked the All Foil bundle then went to check out. Instantly over an hour wait. Then 6 mins into the que the line stops processing. I panicked. However instead of hitting refresh i just let the page sit there. I didnt do anything. Then 30 mins later the que started up again...an hour and 13 mins later , its my turn to check out. I get to my shopping cart. its EMPTY. Then thats when my anxiety shot up, I hit refresh and was able to check out. I hated every minute of it. Granted it had a good ending but i cant imagine all my other fellow magic collectors/players not getting these cards. Wizards needs to do better. They KNEW it was going to be a highly desirable product. There is no excuse, this process is extremely anti-consumer. WotC needs to go back to print to demand with a initial print for those that are excited for the product. Like what they did with the extra life drop.
Similar experience for me. I was horribly anxious leading up to today and when I got to the empty cart screen, all I felt was despair. I was with people that were also waiting and I had joined the queue about 2 seconds after the sales went up and waited almost 2 hours. Only reason that I even found out I wasn't screwed was because I got a message saying I had been logged out when I went to the home screen. If I had just closed the window instead of wanting to see what all had sold out, I wouldn't have succeeded in getting it. Buying a product that I love shouldn't be this stressful, I should have felt happy that I was getting it, not panicky and anxious.
It's a marketing ploy. When it's printed to demand people don't line up like when they hear it's limited. Sure there are plenty of people who can pay upfront, but realistically, the vast majority of players cannot as they have other things and expenses that make sit nothing they can do on a whim. These people may be enticed to over-draw on their credit cards or find the money irresponsibly to make the purchase, while print to demand would result in them waiting for the secondary market to kick into effect and get the one or two cards they want far far far cheaper. lets be honest, if every secret lair was print to demand, you;d be less inclined to be glued to their social media, mark the date and time in your calendar, and be queuing up for hours, you might write it off entirely and just grab it from the secondary market. Pay $60 for five cards or wait for a while and buy the two you want for $20? This is more highly desirable, and results in less sales, as people who are not pressured to buy now wait for later and all the hype declines, which looks bad for investors. Investors can always be told that they made X% profit, even if there was potential for more, and they can show their investors the inflated fomo craze engagement... Print to demand breeds complacency, things fail to uphold value, the cards end up on the secondary market as next to nothing as it has many times before and then people who would of bought into fomo just wait for the inevitable decline in price. It also becomes "too" available and loses it's prestige and people become more and more complacent with future secret lair releases. There's a science to it and why it's better than print to demand *on occasion* and this was a perfect one for that occasion.
Yes there is. There is the waiting months and months, or for the coin flip deck OVER A YEAR for the product to be shipped. That absolutely sucks. The thing they need to do is just judge the sales properly ahead of time, which they've been awful at and which has caused all the FOMO. If there was enough product to meet demand and it was available for 24-48 hours before selling out, everyone would be happy, but they've just been WAY off with everything so far.
It's unfortunate for us as players and collectors, but the profit margin is likely significantly higher for them to change the Secret Lair model. I'm pretty sure the logistics behind pre-order-to-print are too costly, which led them to switch models. With Marvel SL, they probably printed enough for their partners to efficiently manage the network and delivery logistics (there's perhaps pre-agreed contracts already that also limited prints). They are likely very comfortable with the profit margins since it's all easy to forecast. Now they move on to the next set. It sucks, but that's how I imagine business decisions are made in those meetings.
I scored one! Got the astonishing foil bundle. Was ready right at 9 and did a single click on the bundle and then straight away went to checkout, took about 5 seconds and then had to wait 1.5 - 2 hours. Also was able to get the signet!
Im blessed with an incredible buddy who was lucky enough to get thru the que and during his time in line he messaged our entire playgroup to see who wanted some so i got mine! Cant thank him enough because it was all sold out by my turn. Im sorry to everyone who didnt get any
I can pretty much guarantee they don't house their own servers. They most likely purchase from AWS but have too low of a hits/data limit to handle what happened today
But also, you have absolutely no idea what the traffic level was, so to say they didn't have any bandwidth is based on nothing. There could have been an absurd amount of people on the site.
I thought the secret lairs were chill I haven't bought one in years and didn't even hear about the monty python thing. Wish I wouldve known I wouldn't have even queued.

europe based: waited 3.5 hrs, ironman, cpt america and panther non foil were available, by the time i entered paypal details ironman sold out and only got the cpt america non foil... hey its at least something EDIT: today my lgs had 151 booster bundles limited to 6 for 35.- goteeem
Let this be a lesson in the fact that your time is a finite resource. 4 hours you could have spent with your family, working out, or improving your life. WotC doesn’t care about you.
They will be sold to people who are willing to pay the mark up. Scalpers won't trade among themselves, because that's a net loss and at the scale they do business the tax would catch up with them. Occam's razor: Buy a lot, low supply, high demand, sell to the desperate willing. Probably used bots to secure a lot faster than us. The people buying them are just getting what they want, we've all been there and done that in terms of irrational purchases, but it's their money and they are not the issue. The issue is why didn't they have a capcha at checkout to queue and queue to checkout?
I set an alarm, was immediately in the waiting queue, and 0 product was available by the time it was "my turn". None of us could even get one on anything, because wotc allowed bots and scalpers order 5 of everything, and price gouge 4x just hours later. It's time for pitchforks and torches.
Dude no way did you wait in line properly. No one bots secret lair. It's a 3 hour drop, no need for a bot or coding. Just sit in queue, don't refresh and don't lose internet. Get your product. Pitchforkin all you nerds
What’s funny is, I was waiting in line, finally got in, and then decided not to buy anything. I told myself that I already owned all the cards from the lairs I wanted. And I would much rather spend the 150 dollars on finishing an in-progress CEDH deck.
Hey I already saw some in-universe proxies that look *better* than the secret lair cards if you don't feel like having 5 UB cards and then the rest of the deck be a bunch of goblins and wizards.

It is even worse! I was in the Queue on one tab but opened another tab and clicked to buy and it took me straight to checkout! (This was after the Foils were sold out, but it let me buy the non-foils). But people were sitting in the Queue while others, that should have been behind them, were able to log in and buy... (and they can only really do a Universes Beyond Masters series if they wrote up the contracts in a way that allows them to reprint the IPs)

What a great way to motivate players who've never considered proxies before to do so moving forward! Good guy WotC saving people money! For real they best be very careful about the line they are treading on here. Commander is a casual format and there is literally nothing except the players themselves stopping full proxy decks from becoming a reality. I for one only proxy cards I own, but this whole gouging fomo secret lair stuff on cards that have unique mechanics that will no longer be functionally reprinted has me rethinking my own policy.
How are you going to do that when the reason they are there is because everyone wants it? If everyone wants it, everyone can't not buy it. By wanting it, you create the opportunity for people to make money on it.

I watched the countdown for the product to open. As soon as it opened i added 2 foil bundles to my cart and hit checkout. I then waited until 2:06PM Centeral Time before it let me purchase. By then all the foils but iron man were sold out. So i ended up getting one of each of the non-foil releases and a foil Iron Man. I had added to my cart and hit checkout in less than 15 seconds from the product release time, and it still wasn't fast enough.
My problem is that there were a bunch of cheat ways around their system and you had people abusing it to buy way more product then they should have been able to and buy things quicker than people who were in the queue for way longer. I got what I wanted which was a foil bundle and even the bonus card. I wish I did get more not to scalp but I had some friends who weren't able to get the sets that they wanted.
I think there is NO CHANCE of a Universes Beyond Master's set. They pay licensing fees for those IPs and the IP would also have to agree to a reprint. I think it's just selling a pipe dream to suggest this might happen. It's so unlikely.
Really disappointed experience at all. My little sister and I had been waiting for weeks, even took the day off to be ready at launch. Added everything to my cart right away (not more then 3 seconds after launch), but the server issues kept me from checking out. After hours in the queue, I got kicked out, had to rejoin the queue, and by then, everything was sold out. Just a big joke
Saw a post on RUclips that talked about how you could get in early and how you could skip people in the layer if you knew how to do it as a 61-year-old man who doesn't know how to use computers. It was kind of a bummer they should do something about it.

I was already proxy user, but had some stamples...after crypt and lotus ban, I'm never going to spend more than 5 dollars in any card, i will proxy, print, use the proxy well known websites....I prefer this instead of stopping playing
We won't get a "Universe's Beyond Masters", it would require Wizards to pay for licensing again, and it would undermine Secret Lair. We will probably get them peppered into sets as "functional" re-prints that are not of the same theme, but are functionally identical. Examples: Chunn Le, of a Hundred Kicks, and Eleven having cards printed that are the exact same card with superficial "in house" mtg flavour as new characters. This is what Wizards means by re-printing.
I waited in line since 9am on the dot. I waited like 4 hours only to find my queue empty. Luckily I opened another tab on my phone and added non foils because the foils I wanted were sold out already. It was a bad system to sell these and was riddled with issues.
I was in the queue for over 3 hours. My queue number changed a few times and my progress appeared to slide backwards. Perhaps this happened as the bundles and, later, individual hero sets sold out. I opened a new tab and went to the site. I then ordered the single hero sets I wanted and went straight to checkout! The queue system is flawed, as is the FOMO model Wizards has established. I’m grateful to have my cards but I feel bad for those who couldn’t get them. Bring back the “Print to Order” model!
I couldn't get the products that I wanted and I feel that I have been robbed by the people that skipped the line. I will check how WOTC reacts. If they don't care about me beeing stolen, I wonder why I should care about only using proxies from now, and not only for secret lairs...
I waited and didnt get anything. There were people cheating the system and getting in early. Also, some line cutters which screwed a lot of people out of product. it is sad.
So if you got 5 foil bundles in on time, you scored 6 arcane signets. The monetary amount is what wiped out the promo as you were able to get more than the official bundles you ordered.
Even if scalpers didn't exist, there was such an insane demand and I'm positive that over 100,000 people tried to buy them yesterday and couldn't. No previous set or drop could have predicted the demand. The Marvel SLD was definitely several times more popular than every other secret lair combined.
The problem with a masters series for these UB cards is licensing is going to be the killer. The more likely happening is a universes within set that has 150-200 cards from ub made into a commander or master set with magic art. Either that or they do nothing and continue to make magic expensive and unwelcoming to everyone
Yup, waited about 5 hours as well. I logged in right at 9am, and unfortunately it kicked me out… got back in but it kept kicking me out each time I was trying to make a selection because the product kept disappearing as I picked them. Totally sucks.
I have a strong feeling that this is what Wizards is driving towards with that survey years ago about the paid subscription model. They want us to pay extra for the privilege of buying overpriced Fine Luxury Cardboard ~Pringles~ Rectangles from them. All they had to do was set up a CAPTCHA, and have you confirm human before entering the store, and _then_ entering the shop and adding to cart - and having 20 minutes to check out your cart before the products return to the shop and become up-for-grabs for others. And 5 item limit means 5 of each, *not* 5 bundles of everything, and 5 bundles of foil and 5 bundles of nonfoil, and 5 of each individual drop in foil and 5 in nonfoil. Max of 5, in bundle or not, foil. And same for nonfoil.
They limit the sales run on these items to maintain the exclusivity and FOMO for the brand as a whole. By sacrificing a bit off of a super popular product, which is already successful, they build this air of exclusivity, panache, prestige, you get the point. This allows them to inflate their prices past what the market would normally bear. For me, I buy secret lairs based on the cards and if I want to play them. When I own them, then I get proxies and use those. When I want to sell my sealed product, then I can and maintain my value.
I was on the site as the timer hit zero. I clicked add to card, clicked check out on the pop up, and was brought to a "waiting over and hour" window. I got Storm almost 2 hours later
You forgot to mention the part where if you opened the link to the checkout page of secret lair you would bypass the line. That was fixed but only after many of people got their orders in.
I abandoned my cart after 3 hours, once the promo sold out and I learned about the queue jumpers. At least we have Standard-legal Marvel SETS coming soon--and it's not like we won't have 5 versions of Cap within a year or two. This sale was a disaster in public relations.
No publicity is bad publicity. Now this is going to make massive rounds talking about HOW MUCH DEMAND THERE IS FOR MARVEL MAGIC CARDS!!!! No matter what wizards never loses.
Scarcity creates demand, they are learning that with other companies like Nike for example, sneakers only sell out when quantities are limited, now lets say you are a company would you prefere to have 10 million x in stock but sell those 10 million in a month or have 5 million stock and sell it in 5 hours... time is money, big companies need to generate large ammounts of money and the faster they can do it the better
But they factually would have sold more if they supplied more. The short supply does nothing for them. It only helps second hand market and creates frustration with Secret Lair.
my friend was aiming to order it so I asked him as I am terrible about remembering it This product was EXPECTED to sell out in record numbers and the insanity is we're probably gonna see these cards printed again in the main set or as special guests
I managed to get 2 separate orders for a single item in. Initially I had my first item selected and was in the queue 1 minute after the opening bell. 6 minutes in the message about technical issues appeared. About 1 hour later on my LGS discord channel, another member posted the work around for avoiding the queue if you try to buy as a guest vs logging in. Well, that worked for me and I purchased my 1 non foil item. At the 2hr25min mark, my login account queue came up, but my cart showed empty. A refresh put the item in my cart, but no more bonus card. Of note I never saw the pop up about it already being out of stock. Anyway, what the heck, made another purchase for a duplicate non foil and was successful. So I have 2 items on the way. Oh, and to mention, when I got the second item ordered, half of the foil items were showing unavailable or low stock.
watched the timer run down from 25 min had my 1 set of wolverine foils in cart.. waited 2.5 hours only to be timed out of my account when it was my turn and cart was empty.. This is a complete disaster.
I was there right when it opened. Ended up waiting 2 hours, but got what I wanted. Checkout was kinda strange because it was telling me I disconnected, so I opened a new tab, signed in, went to cart, and then I was able to complete my purchase.
I couldn't log in. Then I sat in the queue for 2 hours like a good boy. Then I heard about the line jumping glitch and tried it out. Now I have to wait until I get home to see if I actually got anything...
I think a lot of these SL cards are just going to end up in the normal UB sets. No reason they couldn’t put these Marvel cards in the Spiderman set slated for late 2025. SL is going to be about a special treatment and early access. Also, they will definitely do a UB reprint set at some point, but it will probably be in the “Remastered” line of boxes, not “Masters”. Just semantics, but the remastered line is for cards that share a common background while the masters line is typically for specific formats.
I got it(just missed the video lol) Biggest issue I see there: How to reprint IP-specific effects/type lines/abilities when these things like "Time Lord", "Necron" etc. are copyrighted by their respective IPs? I do not think they will make new contracts for a reprint of these cards, or have it in their current contracts to reprint these things without checking for legal stuff. Reskins with just new name and art are easy, but the rest I see difficult - also replacements, e.g. cal "Necron" from 40K then e.g. "Tickler" in the reprinted version - nobody could match these things with the hundreds of cards coming in such a product.
I got stuck in the queue like most others, but it did bring me to a cart with the non foil complete set and I made the purchase. It took about 4 hours... then I thought "hell I'll see if I can get another" and boom, right to the complete order page and I ended up buying a 2nd one. So far both orders are confirmed via email many hours later.
Yeah I saw this coming so I just ordered proxies of the cards as soon as they were revealed. Why spend 200 when I can spend 20 bucks and get them faster? WoTC doesn’t deserve my money when they pull stunts like these.

I got on the secret lair site for my oldest son at 9:00 am and placed my order. After two hours the walking man was on the far right and it still showed it would be over one hour on the queue. Then it showed it was sold out. Now I heard that there were BOTS that cut to the front of the line and were able to order a lot of the Marvel secret lairs. I wonder if some of these BOTS are from Wizards. This was POORLY handled. This sort of thing has happened before and Wizards does NOTHING to correct this. They just don't care. For the past 18 months I have entered my email so many times on this site for secret lair updates but I never get any. There is nothing in my spam either. Thank you for the video Mox Man. Got 2 Everything bundles, 4 of the signets. Am flipping them both at cost to people who weren't able to get through (tentatively spoken for so dont ask). Just wanted to try to help out by being available to camp out for it. There are others who did the same thing and ordered 5 of whatever and are flipping at cost plus shipping. It isn't all scalpers out there.
I was on of those able to buy my foil bundle. I am going to build lots of fun decks, but when I saw the secondary market already had listings, i was furius. I was so angry I almost wanted to cancel my order..

I was let in before storm and wolverine sold out, but had to add them back into my cart. Everything was going well and when I went to check out it threw me back into the queue. I did not cut the line or anything. When it finally let me back in, I was only able to get the non foil iron man and black panther. I checked eBay and everything being 4x the price is absurd and the arcane signet on ebay was at 180 bucks but recent sales are at 40-50 bucks. Absurd. Print to demand should’ve been the way.

I managed to grab a foil bundle for myself and foil storm/iron man for my buddy who was at work. All without cutting the line (my que went from to 10 minutes to 45 at one point from line cutters).
I was getting stressed out time went 2 times from 39 to more than one hour x'D but still managed to buy all I wanted and more just not in time for the promo
This your first time? Games Workshop had this problem with product earlier in the year. It was so bad that GW canceled pre-orders for the product and had a new sale for the product about one or two weeks later.
I actually lucked out and snagged a complete set. Was in the store from 11:50 the noght before only for the site to "open" at 8:45 with a 15 min timer and you couldn't add anything to your cart. The instant it opened i added the complete bundle and checkout in maybe 15-30 seconds. Then i got put in line from 9 to 11:30 when I got my turn. Just hope i got in early enough to get that signet.
So I was in line for just over 4 hours, all that was left when I got to the checkout was 2 foil and 2 non-foil editions of the single drops, so I picked them up In terms of what went wrong? Nothing, it was perfect, they likely had about 250k of each foil and non-foil of this, so the company just made in the region of $100M in half a days work. Incredible to think. The collector in me actually loves this. Yea I didnt get the full foil drop I wanted, but that was just for collecting purposes, not to open. But I got some and thats fun in my mind, its what gives thrill to the chase and its one of the main things I love about the game.
bruh i got into the queue at 12pm EST right when the website launched, the servers went down shortly after and whenever they came back it reset the queue. the wait time was 1hr but it took more than 3 hours to be able to purchase anything. At that point, the only secret lair remaining was the non-foil black panther. I really wanted to get the storm, wolverine and captain america secret lairs, but because of how little WOTC printed it was already sold out. I really wish they would just print to order so we all can get what we want and not be priced out by selfish scalpers.
I was refreshing at launch got into the queue waited 3:45 and when I got in every non-foil was low stock except black panther and all foil were sold out I hit storm and Iron man hit checkout and got kicked back because storm sold out as I was trying to check out. Its crazy that people like me who were refreshing to get in at launch couldn’t even buy the products.
I was really debating on dropping $200!!! on cardboard. But I thought... at least Cap, Wolverine, and Storm... so I was in and then... that little walking man came up and it said that wait time was 1 hour or more and it was like a splash of cold water on my face. I got out of there and thought, this is nonsense. WOTC is creating a terrible system. I'm an amateur artist and will make my own cards! LOL
This is why I think they should have just reduced the open order window and kept print to demand. 3 day open order window would ensure everyone has a chance while keeping the product desirable. Any product made with low initial demand would have low existing stock and go up over time.
They needed to go the Ticketmaster route. Put people in the queue and then let them select their product. It's deceptive to let people put stuff in their cart and then put them in a queue to maybe get what they selected.
10 seconds after start, 3 hrs wait time with server failure on secret lair and cellphone browser issue. Lucky to buy the no foils since the foils were sold out.

The problem wasn’t how many they made. The problem was there were multiple ways to skip the queue that they took a long time to fix. This is the big issue WotC has to address
I waited an hour refreshing till the pages loaded and then had to wait another hour untill it started, when it finally started my movie began (i was at a mall) and had to keep my phone on for the whole movie (2hrs) and then waited another hour on my way home, and the cherry on the top, the stark tower bonus sold out 3m before i could buy 1 set
That was handled EXTREMELY poorly and Wizards should be ashamed of themselves for that kind of execution. I joined the cue at 9am sharp and it told me that I had to wait over and hour. At some point it told me two hours. 4 1/2 hours later the screen jumped me into my cart (after trying to buy the non-foil Wolverine originally) and my cart said empty. I refreshed and then I went to add it to my cart again since it wasn't in my cart, and the Wolverine Secret Lair said sold out... as well as everything else except for Iron Man and T'Challa. WTF?! And now they're going for almost $200 per Commander card on TCG Player? Ridiculous.....
I'm surprised there was so much issues, I clicked buy at 12 exactly, and other than around an hour queue and some stupid bugs I was able to go through and buy my storm commander, I am excited, building it as a landfall deck 😎

There was also a trick to skip the cue. Amazonian put it a video and she talked about it.
Apparently I lucked the hell out and managed to get a foil bundle without cutting the line. I feel bad for anyone that got cut out of the line by bots and a-holes.

Probably the worst experience ordering Secret Lairs to date. I was there logged in and knew what i wanted before the sale went live. I clicked the All Foil bundle then went to check out. Instantly over an hour wait. Then 6 mins into the que the line stops processing. I panicked. However instead of hitting refresh i just let the page sit there. I didnt do anything. Then 30 mins later the que started up again...an hour and 13 mins later , its my turn to check out. I get to my shopping cart. its EMPTY. Then thats when my anxiety shot up, I hit refresh and was able to check out. I hated every minute of it. Granted it had a good ending but i cant imagine all my other fellow magic collectors/players not getting these cards. Wizards needs to do better. They KNEW it was going to be a highly desirable product. There is no excuse, this process is extremely anti-consumer. WotC needs to go back to print to demand with a initial print for those that are excited for the product. Like what they did with the extra life drop.
Similar experience for me. I was horribly anxious leading up to today and when I got to the empty cart screen, all I felt was despair. I was with people that were also waiting and I had joined the queue about 2 seconds after the sales went up and waited almost 2 hours. Only reason that I even found out I wasn't screwed was because I got a message saying I had been logged out when I went to the home screen. If I had just closed the window instead of wanting to see what all had sold out, I wouldn't have succeeded in getting it. Buying a product that I love shouldn't be this stressful, I should have felt happy that I was getting it, not panicky and anxious.
This is no reason to not simply have a basic pre-order and print accordingly.
It's a marketing ploy. When it's printed to demand people don't line up like when they hear it's limited. Sure there are plenty of people who can pay upfront, but realistically, the vast majority of players cannot as they have other things and expenses that make sit nothing they can do on a whim. These people may be enticed to over-draw on their credit cards or find the money irresponsibly to make the purchase, while print to demand would result in them waiting for the secondary market to kick into effect and get the one or two cards they want far far far cheaper. lets be honest, if every secret lair was print to demand, you;d be less inclined to be glued to their social media, mark the date and time in your calendar, and be queuing up for hours, you might write it off entirely and just grab it from the secondary market.
Pay $60 for five cards or wait for a while and buy the two you want for $20? This is more highly desirable, and results in less sales, as people who are not pressured to buy now wait for later and all the hype declines, which looks bad for investors. Investors can always be told that they made X% profit, even if there was potential for more, and they can show their investors the inflated fomo craze engagement...
Print to demand breeds complacency, things fail to uphold value, the cards end up on the secondary market as next to nothing as it has many times before and then people who would of bought into fomo just wait for the inevitable decline in price. It also becomes "too" available and loses it's prestige and people become more and more complacent with future secret lair releases. There's a science to it and why it's better than print to demand *on occasion* and this was a perfect one for that occasion.
Yes there is. There is the waiting months and months, or for the coin flip deck OVER A YEAR for the product to be shipped. That absolutely sucks. The thing they need to do is just judge the sales properly ahead of time, which they've been awful at and which has caused all the FOMO. If there was enough product to meet demand and it was available for 24-48 hours before selling out, everyone would be happy, but they've just been WAY off with everything so far.
It's unfortunate for us as players and collectors, but the profit margin is likely significantly higher for them to change the Secret Lair model. I'm pretty sure the logistics behind pre-order-to-print are too costly, which led them to switch models. With Marvel SL, they probably printed enough for their partners to efficiently manage the network and delivery logistics (there's perhaps pre-agreed contracts already that also limited prints). They are likely very comfortable with the profit margins since it's all easy to forecast. Now they move on to the next set. It sucks, but that's how I imagine business decisions are made in those meetings.
I scored one! Got the astonishing foil bundle. Was ready right at 9 and did a single click on the bundle and then straight away went to checkout, took about 5 seconds and then had to wait 1.5 - 2 hours. Also was able to get the signet!

Im blessed with an incredible buddy who was lucky enough to get thru the que and during his time in line he messaged our entire playgroup to see who wanted some so i got mine! Cant thank him enough because it was all sold out by my turn. Im sorry to everyone who didnt get any
Don't understand how a $100M company has the internet bandwidth of a payphone.
I can pretty much guarantee they don't house their own servers. They most likely purchase from AWS but have too low of a hits/data limit to handle what happened today
But also, you have absolutely no idea what the traffic level was, so to say they didn't have any bandwidth is based on nothing. There could have been an absurd amount of people on the site.

Let the scalpers sell and trade these secret lairs between themselves. As a collector, investor, and player, I could care less!
They will be sold to people who are willing to pay the mark up. Scalpers won't trade among themselves, because that's a net loss and at the scale they do business the tax would catch up with them.
Occam's razor: Buy a lot, low supply, high demand, sell to the desperate willing. Probably used bots to secure a lot faster than us.
The people buying them are just getting what they want, we've all been there and done that in terms of irrational purchases, but it's their money and they are not the issue. The issue is why didn't they have a capcha at checkout to queue and queue to checkout?
There's plenty of collectors, investors and players who want them. That's why they are selling out.

I set an alarm, was immediately in the waiting queue, and 0 product was available by the time it was "my turn". None of us could even get one on anything, because wotc allowed bots and scalpers order 5 of everything, and price gouge 4x just hours later.

What’s funny is, I was waiting in line, finally got in, and then decided not to buy anything. I told myself that I already owned all the cards from the lairs I wanted. And I would much rather spend the 150 dollars on finishing an in-progress CEDH deck.

Hey I already saw some in-universe proxies that look *better* than the secret lair cards if you don't feel like having 5 UB cards and then the rest of the deck be a bunch of goblins and wizards.

It is even worse! I was in the Queue on one tab but opened another tab and clicked to buy and it took me straight to checkout! (This was after the Foils were sold out, but it let me buy the non-foils). But people were sitting in the Queue while others, that should have been behind them, were able to log in and buy... (and they can only really do a Universes Beyond Masters series if they wrote up the contracts in a way that allows them to reprint the IPs)
Same thing happened to me. I was waiting for over three hours and then opened a new tab and went straight to the site and ordered the single hero drops I wanted. What a flawed system but I’m grateful I lucked out.
What a great way to motivate players who've never considered proxies before to do so moving forward!

For real they best be very careful about the line they are treading on here. Commander is a casual format and there is literally nothing except the players themselves stopping full proxy decks from becoming a reality. I for one only proxy cards I own, but this whole gouging fomo secret lair stuff on cards that have unique mechanics that will no longer be functionally reprinted has me rethinking my own policy.
We should make these scalpers sit on them forever, until they stop doing it.
How are you going to do that when the reason they are there is because everyone wants it? If everyone wants it, everyone can't not buy it. By wanting it, you create the opportunity for people to make money on it.

I watched the countdown for the product to open. As soon as it opened i added 2 foil bundles to my cart and hit checkout. I then waited until 2:06PM Centeral Time before it let me purchase. By then all the foils but iron man were sold out. So i ended up getting one of each of the non-foil releases and a foil Iron Man.
I had added to my cart and hit checkout in less than 15 seconds from the product release time, and it still wasn't fast enough.

LMFAO my purchase was the opposite. The only one sold out was foil Iron man so I got that one in non foil and picked up the others in foil
My problem is that there were a bunch of cheat ways around their system and you had people abusing it to buy way more product then they should have been able to and buy things quicker than people who were in the queue for way longer. I got what I wanted which was a foil bundle and even the bonus card. I wish I did get more not to scalp but I had some friends who weren't able to get the sets that they wanted.

Yup, it logged players out of their session. You had to open a new window, log in, then refresh your cart but most players didn't realize that.
I think there is NO CHANCE of a Universes Beyond Master's set. They pay licensing fees for those IPs and the IP would also have to agree to a reprint. I think it's just selling a pipe dream to suggest this might happen. It's so unlikely.
Really disappointed experience at all. My little sister and I had been waiting for weeks, even took the day off to be ready at launch. Added everything to my cart right away (not more then 3 seconds after launch), but the server issues kept me from checking out. After hours in the queue, I got kicked out, had to rejoin the queue, and by then, everything was sold out. Just a big joke
Saw a post on RUclips that talked about how you could get in early and how you could skip people in the layer if you knew how to do it as a 61-year-old man who doesn't know how to use computers. It was kind of a bummer they should do something about it.

I was already proxy user, but had some stamples...after crypt and lotus ban, I'm never going to spend more than 5 dollars in any card, i will proxy, print, use the proxy well known websites....I prefer this instead of stopping playing

We won't get a "Universe's Beyond Masters", it would require Wizards to pay for licensing again, and it would undermine Secret Lair.
We will probably get them peppered into sets as "functional" re-prints that are not of the same theme, but are functionally identical. Examples: Chunn Le, of a Hundred Kicks, and Eleven having cards printed that are the exact same card with superficial "in house" mtg flavour as new characters. This is what Wizards means by re-printing.
I waited in line since 9am on the dot. I waited like 4 hours only to find my queue empty. Luckily I opened another tab on my phone and added non foils because the foils I wanted were sold out already. It was a bad system to sell these and was riddled with issues.
I was in the queue for over 3 hours. My queue number changed a few times and my progress appeared to slide backwards. Perhaps this happened as the bundles and, later, individual hero sets sold out. I opened a new tab and went to the site. I then ordered the single hero sets I wanted and went straight to checkout! The queue system is flawed, as is the FOMO model Wizards has established. I’m grateful to have my cards but I feel bad for those who couldn’t get them. Bring back the “Print to Order” model!

I couldn't get the products that I wanted and I feel that I have been robbed by the people that skipped the line. I will check how WOTC reacts. If they don't care about me beeing stolen, I wonder why I should care about only using proxies from now, and not only for secret lairs...
I waited and didnt get anything. There were people cheating the system and getting in early. Also, some line cutters which screwed a lot of people out of product. it is sad.
So if you got 5 foil bundles in on time, you scored 6 arcane signets. The monetary amount is what wiped out the promo as you were able to get more than the official bundles you ordered.
Even if scalpers didn't exist, there was such an insane demand and I'm positive that over 100,000 people tried to buy them yesterday and couldn't. No previous set or drop could have predicted the demand. The Marvel SLD was definitely several times more popular than every other secret lair combined.
The time limit kept resetting for me like 4 times. It was ridiculous. The promos sold out 5 min before it was my turn. RIDICOLOUS!!!

I was at 3 minutes when that happened - and at least twice my timer went from in the 40's back to over an hour while I was waiting.
The problem with a masters series for these UB cards is licensing is going to be the killer. The more likely happening is a universes within set that has 150-200 cards from ub made into a commander or master set with magic art. Either that or they do nothing and continue to make magic expensive and unwelcoming to everyone

Yup, waited about 5 hours as well. I logged in right at 9am, and unfortunately it kicked me out… got back in but it kept kicking me out each time I was trying to make a selection because the product kept disappearing as I picked them. Totally sucks.
I have a strong feeling that this is what Wizards is driving towards with that survey years ago about the paid subscription model.
They want us to pay extra for the privilege of buying overpriced Fine Luxury Cardboard ~Pringles~ Rectangles from them.
All they had to do was set up a CAPTCHA, and have you confirm human before entering the store, and _then_ entering the shop and adding to cart - and having 20 minutes to check out your cart before the products return to the shop and become up-for-grabs for others.
And 5 item limit means 5 of each, *not* 5 bundles of everything, and 5 bundles of foil and 5 bundles of nonfoil, and 5 of each individual drop in foil and 5 in nonfoil.
Max of 5, in bundle or not, foil.
And same for nonfoil.
They limit the sales run on these items to maintain the exclusivity and FOMO for the brand as a whole. By sacrificing a bit off of a super popular product, which is already successful, they build this air of exclusivity, panache, prestige, you get the point. This allows them to inflate their prices past what the market would normally bear.
For me, I buy secret lairs based on the cards and if I want to play them. When I own them, then I get proxies and use those. When I want to sell my sealed product, then I can and maintain my value.
I was on the site as the timer hit zero. I clicked add to card, clicked check out on the pop up, and was brought to a "waiting over and hour" window. I got Storm almost 2 hours later
You forgot to mention the part where if you opened the link to the checkout page of secret lair you would bypass the line. That was fixed but only after many of people got their orders in.
I abandoned my cart after 3 hours, once the promo sold out and I learned about the queue jumpers. At least we have Standard-legal Marvel SETS coming soon--and it's not like we won't have 5 versions of Cap within a year or two. This sale was a disaster in public relations.
No publicity is bad publicity. Now this is going to make massive rounds talking about HOW MUCH DEMAND THERE IS FOR MARVEL MAGIC CARDS!!!! No matter what wizards never loses.
Scarcity creates demand, they are learning that with other companies like Nike for example, sneakers only sell out when quantities are limited, now lets say you are a company would you prefere to have 10 million x in stock but sell those 10 million in a month or have 5 million stock and sell it in 5 hours... time is money, big companies need to generate large ammounts of money and the faster they can do it the better
But they factually would have sold more if they supplied more. The short supply does nothing for them. It only helps second hand market and creates frustration with Secret Lair.

If they wanted to tackle the Scalpers, they just shouldn't allow more than a couple of copies to be purchased per registered address.
I managed to get 2 separate orders for a single item in. Initially I had my first item selected and was in the queue 1 minute after the opening bell. 6 minutes in the message about technical issues appeared.
About 1 hour later on my LGS discord channel, another member posted the work around for avoiding the queue if you try to buy as a guest vs logging in. Well, that worked for me and I purchased my 1 non foil item.
At the 2hr25min mark, my login account queue came up, but my cart showed empty. A refresh put the item in my cart, but no more bonus card. Of note I never saw the pop up about it already being out of stock. Anyway, what the heck, made another purchase for a duplicate non foil and was successful. So I have 2 items on the way. Oh, and to mention, when I got the second item ordered, half of the foil items were showing unavailable or low stock.
watched the timer run down from 25 min had my 1 set of wolverine foils in cart.. waited 2.5 hours only to be timed out of my account when it was my turn and cart was empty.. This is a complete disaster.
I was there right when it opened. Ended up waiting 2 hours, but got what I wanted. Checkout was kinda strange because it was telling me I disconnected, so I opened a new tab, signed in, went to cart, and then I was able to complete my purchase.

I think a lot of these SL cards are just going to end up in the normal UB sets. No reason they couldn’t put these Marvel cards in the Spiderman set slated for late 2025. SL is going to be about a special treatment and early access.
Also, they will definitely do a UB reprint set at some point, but it will probably be in the “Remastered” line of boxes, not “Masters”. Just semantics, but the remastered line is for cards that share a common background while the masters line is typically for specific formats.

Biggest issue I see there: How to reprint IP-specific effects/type lines/abilities when these things like "Time Lord", "Necron" etc. are copyrighted by their respective IPs? I do not think they will make new contracts for a reprint of these cards, or have it in their current contracts to reprint these things without checking for legal stuff. Reskins with just new name and art are easy, but the rest I see difficult - also replacements, e.g. cal "Necron" from 40K then e.g. "Tickler" in the reprinted version - nobody could match these things with the hundreds of cards coming in such a product.

I got stuck in the queue like most others, but it did bring me to a cart with the non foil complete set and I made the purchase. It took about 4 hours... then I thought "hell I'll see if I can get another" and boom, right to the complete order page and I ended up buying a 2nd one. So far both orders are confirmed via email many hours later.
I loaded my basket and checked out at 9:00.30 and waited 3.5 hours to find my cart was empty and half the product was already sold out.
Yeah I saw this coming so I just ordered proxies of the cards as soon as they were revealed. Why spend 200 when I can spend 20 bucks and get them faster? WoTC doesn’t deserve my money when they pull stunts like these.

I got on the secret lair site for my oldest son at 9:00 am and placed my order. After two hours the walking man was on the far right and it still showed it would be over one hour on the queue. Then it showed it was sold out. Now I heard that there were BOTS that cut to the front of the line and were able to order a lot of the Marvel secret lairs. I wonder if some of these BOTS are from Wizards. This was POORLY handled. This sort of thing has happened before and Wizards does NOTHING to correct this. They just don't care. For the past 18 months I have entered my email so many times on this site for secret lair updates but I never get any. There is nothing in my spam either. Thank you for the video Mox Man. Got 2 Everything bundles, 4 of the signets. Am flipping them both at cost to people who weren't able to get through (tentatively spoken for so dont ask). Just wanted to try to help out by being available to camp out for it. There are others who did the same thing and ordered 5 of whatever and are flipping at cost plus shipping. It isn't all scalpers out there.
I was on of those able to buy my foil bundle. I am going to build lots of fun decks, but when I saw the secondary market already had listings, i was furius. I was so angry I almost wanted to cancel my order..
I waited 4 hours, got booted out, I wasn't able to get Storm or Iron Man foil, but grabbed 1 of everything else.....at least that's what the order form says.

I was let in before storm and wolverine sold out, but had to add them back into my cart. Everything was going well and when I went to check out it threw me back into the queue. I did not cut the line or anything. When it finally let me back in, I was only able to get the non foil iron man and black panther. I checked eBay and everything being 4x the price is absurd and the arcane signet on ebay was at 180 bucks but recent sales are at 40-50 bucks. Absurd. Print to demand should’ve been the way.

I managed to grab a foil bundle for myself and foil storm/iron man for my buddy who was at work. All without cutting the line (my que went from to 10 minutes to 45 at one point from line cutters).
Almost 6 hours of waiting from the beginning of the sale just to have only the Black Panter bundle available

This your first time? Games Workshop had this problem with product earlier in the year. It was so bad that GW canceled pre-orders for the product and had a new sale for the product about one or two weeks later.
I actually lucked out and snagged a complete set. Was in the store from 11:50 the noght before only for the site to "open" at 8:45 with a 15 min timer and you couldn't add anything to your cart. The instant it opened i added the complete bundle and checkout in maybe 15-30 seconds. Then i got put in line from 9 to 11:30 when I got my turn. Just hope i got in early enough to get that signet.

I do think there is a certain time window for the copyright claim which would prevent cards from being reprinted unfortunately

So I was in line for just over 4 hours, all that was left when I got to the checkout was 2 foil and 2 non-foil editions of the single drops, so I picked them up
In terms of what went wrong? Nothing, it was perfect, they likely had about 250k of each foil and non-foil of this, so the company just made in the region of $100M in half a days work. Incredible to think.
The collector in me actually loves this. Yea I didnt get the full foil drop I wanted, but that was just for collecting purposes, not to open. But I got some and thats fun in my mind, its what gives thrill to the chase and its one of the main things I love about the game.
bruh i got into the queue at 12pm EST right when the website launched, the servers went down shortly after and whenever they came back it reset the queue. the wait time was 1hr but it took more than 3 hours to be able to purchase anything. At that point, the only secret lair remaining was the non-foil black panther. I really wanted to get the storm, wolverine and captain america secret lairs, but because of how little WOTC printed it was already sold out. I really wish they would just print to order so we all can get what we want and not be priced out by selfish scalpers.
I was refreshing at launch got into the queue waited 3:45 and when I got in every non-foil was low stock except black panther and all foil were sold out I hit storm and Iron man hit checkout and got kicked back because storm sold out as I was trying to check out. Its crazy that people like me who were refreshing to get in at launch couldn’t even buy the products.
I was really debating on dropping $200!!! on cardboard. But I thought... at least Cap, Wolverine, and Storm... so I was in and then... that little walking man came up and it said that wait time was 1 hour or more and it was like a splash of cold water on my face. I got out of there and thought, this is nonsense. WOTC is creating a terrible system. I'm an amateur artist and will make my own cards! LOL
This is why I think they should have just reduced the open order window and kept print to demand. 3 day open order window would ensure everyone has a chance while keeping the product desirable. Any product made with low initial demand would have low existing stock and go up over time.

They needed to go the Ticketmaster route. Put people in the queue and then let them select their product. It's deceptive to let people put stuff in their cart and then put them in a queue to maybe get what they selected.
Got non foil bundle and the signet. Waited about 65 min.
Feeling really lucky over here. 2 hours and I had my full foil order, signet included.
10 seconds after start, 3 hrs wait time with server failure on secret lair and cellphone browser issue. Lucky to buy the no foils since the foils were sold out.
I got non foils of iron man and cap america... wolverine sold out before i could check out. For me it took just over 4 hours.
Added the non-foil set to cart, put in order, was put in que for 5 hours. System timed out and my order voided. Quite annoyed.
Well, thanks to y'all we'll have even more Universes Beyond product on the shelves the coming years.... why do you even want this stuff? Why not play Marvel Snap if you want Wolverine, Captain America, etc.?
The problem wasn’t how many they made. The problem was there were multiple ways to skip the queue that they took a long time to fix. This is the big issue WotC has to address

I waited an hour refreshing till the pages loaded and then had to wait another hour untill it started, when it finally started my movie began (i was at a mall) and had to keep my phone on for the whole movie (2hrs) and then waited another hour on my way home, and the cherry on the top, the stark tower bonus sold out 3m before i could buy 1 set
That was handled EXTREMELY poorly and Wizards should be ashamed of themselves for that kind of execution. I joined the cue at 9am sharp and it told me that I had to wait over and hour. At some point it told me two hours. 4 1/2 hours later the screen jumped me into my cart (after trying to buy the non-foil Wolverine originally) and my cart said empty. I refreshed and then I went to add it to my cart again since it wasn't in my cart, and the Wolverine Secret Lair said sold out... as well as everything else except for Iron Man and T'Challa. WTF?! And now they're going for almost $200 per Commander card on TCG Player? Ridiculous.....
I'm surprised there was so much issues, I clicked buy at 12 exactly, and other than around an hour queue and some stupid bugs I was able to go through and buy my storm commander, I am excited, building it as a landfall deck 😎
