Since when was it ok for a restaurant to ban iPhones? Filming makes sense because it invades people’s privacy, but iPhones? That’s a rule I’d only see in libraries, and that restaurant was certainly a lot louder than a typical library, assuming that libraries are still supposed to be quiet.

Honestly it is pretty rude when people bring crying babies to places babies shouldn’t be at, such as a bar. Like, I get it. Child care is expensive and maybe the babysitter bailed. But people come to bars to relax and drink. That’s not a place for crying babies. And if you still want to go to bars then maybe don’t have kids?
The original poster clarified that they were at a restaurant with a bar area and just so happened to be seated near the bar. (Think Applebee's or a steakhouse for example)
If some server tried to "confiscate" my property I'd call the cops. That's theft, they have no right to "confiscate" things. What if they had a "no wallets or purses" policy, would they try to confiscate those too?
