well said, thank you. I appreciate your work! The thing I enjoy most about ambiguous texts is that it gives you valid connections to make while holding back just enough to allow for some deep introspection. This is how you form real and deep meaningful connections with the cards, as opposed to a deck like The Hermetic Tarot. I love that deck, but it really just tries to show you everything and feels more like a list of things that can take away from interpretations as it can funnel the mind into narrow interpretations.
Thank you Anna! This was such a great video! Your insight, knowledge and late night thoughts is making me consider getting to the deck to work with the cards. I can see how the imagery can be powerful either way. Your video has made me curious about the deck and how the book compares to the Thoth. Thank you again. You have great energy!💜
I got this deck as a present and was SO disappointed. I really hated it… and not in the “you need to work through this” way, but in the “throw it in the trash can way!😂 I am an artist and especially like to support Tarot artists. The advertising focuses predominantly on the images that look more like gallery art, but many of the images didn’t seem fully done, not like a sketch- there are beautiful sketches, but like… just… not very good. I exchanged it for another, more surreal art deck and am really happy with the decision! 😊 This is MY experience and opinions, and I realize this deck has its followers. ✅ I DO like the writing of this book and may try to get it separately… the verbal imagery is … as you say, dreamy! Thanks, as always for your thoughtful analysis.
The only gripe I still have in this regard is the 7 of Disks because honestly I can't make out what is on the card and she only really describes it as the chariot itself. The problem is that I have no idea how to interpret that in relation to Plato's allegory of the soul, because the chariot itself isn't a part of it. I try to intuit what I can, but that is the card that I still struggle with the most. Other than that, I find there is plenty of Wirth and Jodorowsky inspiration as well in the deck. On Wirth, how she connects the sefirot to the majors and how she unpacks the images reminds me of his book. Jodorowsky's number meanings are also here, so perhaps that can help me, I realized just now.
I love this deck but I don't find I can read with it well if I have a direct question, for that I really prefer the Thoth. I use this with more open ended questions for more soul searching purposes and read what the guidebook has to say about each card before coming to an understanding. There are so many layers of mythology in this deck and the symbolism isn't always clear to me right away like RWS or Thoth. I have been pairing lately it with your Magickal Guidance cards asking your deck (which I love so much!) for ways to work with what I have just read, I think these decks are friends.
That is so amazing to hear, Jessica! I was going to film a video with decks in my collection to pair with Magickal Guidance Cards, but Mary-El did not cross my mind. I'll think about it!
Totally agree in regards to Crowley (don’t own the Mary-El and don’t plan on purchasing it tbh). I really appreciate his mix of writing poetically while also sometimes appearing like a level 100 troll🙈. I‘m almost getting a „fuck around and find out“ vibe when I crack open the book of Thoth and/ or work with the Thoth tarot again (like right now for Sagittarius season, since Sag is my ascendant and I’m here for it, lol). I don’t even fully understand why 😅 love that you share these profound insights with all of us ❤
Crowley lived an **interesting** life to say the least, but I lean towards the idea that his outward craziness was to protect something really profound, to keep the turds away. Kind of like how Iceland/Greenland were named. A bit of trolling goes a long way I guess 🤹
I couldn't agree more! The way the books are written to me seems like, "Look at the Moon, not at the finger pointing at the Moon". Thanks for the great take on it.
Yess, those are the best ones! I'm self-taught in Tarot, and this was always my approach I realize now. Take in the information, but always check back in with myself to see what I could truly get out of the card
What an absolute GEM of a video 🔥🔥🔥 Frustrating read = 360° approach 🔥 And I am HERE for Darkness redistributing our relationship with the outer world. It's the most magickal feeling!!! 😈🐌🕯🧡
I think that’s why Mary El is not beginners friendly - and not because of gate keeping but it’s for someone who has some knowledge base but they already have their own language with tarot and they take Mary El to expand their horizon. Ok - it can be for beginners but very stubborn one :) what I mean it’s different to read and you appreciate someone does not give you card meaning , doesn’t force it on you . Again- there are out there ppl which never read a single book and went ahead and read tarot and were very successful although - how many like that are around ? Not many - rest - including me - needed to grasp some sort of knowledge to be able to understand different systems in Tarot. Is this less valuable reading ? I don’t think so as long as both parties enjoy their learning ride :) coming back to topic - someone who already knows Tarot , like you - since you have your vision / language with cards this type of decks would be hit or miss . It will be black and white . Same as you have certain taste in movies - some you love , some you hate to watch and some you are like - it’s ok but you don’t feel an urge to keep watching this movie all over again. I purchased this deck because everyone was talking about it . I flipped the cards , look into the book - some cards make perfect sense when comes to art some others are not fallowing either RWS or Thoth so this discouraged me to use it at the moment. It’s waiting for it’s turn 😅. Thank you for your video ❤❤❤
Hi Maja! For me, the ideal reader has BOTH! I need my Tarot to be studied, understood, and then taken into the freedom of intuition ;) I agree this deck is not beginner-friendly, or as you said... for stubborn beginners, ha, why not! Do you feel a certain energy from this deck? Some people use it for ancestor work, or very specific shadow work... For me I don't know yet
@@AstralLadyTarot to be honest - I really don’t like shadow work concept and associating some specific deck/s to it and use it only for this kind of practise . Ok I understand the reason behind although I found it limiting for me. I noticed that “happy- cartoon “ - decks could hurt me more in a reading than “ dark decks”.
@@Maja_Divination So recognizable! Any deck can be a shadow deck although I understand sometimes we reach for something specific because of its imagery. I know of a Tarot youtuber who likes to use Mary-El for working with sacred masculine/ healing the wound regarding men
You're right Anna, picking things apart and overanalysis kills the magick. ❤😽
Definitely can happen, which is a shame!

That is a great topic for conversation! Can a deck give too much, that it takes away from the meaning of the card?!
yesss, would enjoy hearing your take on that!@@AstralLadyTarot
