I've never rebound a book before, but I've done a decent amount of leather work that I never thought I could do. I recommend just doing it. The first time will always turn out looking rough, but you learn a lot every time you do something

I've been an artist most of my life and love doing skilled detailed work, and I'd love to have the space and eqipment to rebind bibles with the precision and care you have, but I lost the clear sight of my right eye 4 years ago after 7 operations. I still do fine artwork, praise God. Greetings from Australia!

I am a leather crafter but would like to try rebinding a few bibles to see If it is something I would like. but I am having trouble finding quality supplies and the wood book press. If you wouldn't mind sharing were you get your supplies I would be grateful! If not I understand, keep doing the videos they are awesome.

It took a lot of time and practice (a.k.a. mistakes) to get to where it "looks easy." Send me an email if you or your cousin would like a Bible rebound.

It's always great to see a talented craftsman at work! I think I could do that in about 100 hours and probably a whole wasted goat hide... Oh, yeah, and it wouldn't be THAT, it would be a hacked together thing that would be very meaningful to me, but other people would ask what I had done to my poor bible.

I don't have a list. I guess you can just go through the video to see what I use.
I have never seen the book block glued to the spine of the cover. Traditional book binding leaves a space there.
The Oxford hollow that he creates in the beginning provides this "space." It also greatly strengthens the spine as well as allows the book to open flat while preventing the cover from creasing inwards in a distasteful way.
That's so awesome! Are you able to use any font or lettering or symbols when you stamp the spine?
Bought the exact same bible to rebind myself and now I see this video. Awesome timing and great color scheme. Was thinking of buying my leather from rocky mountain leathers. I saw u saying in your last vid that they trim the thickness down for you to save on skiving ?
Yes, I get my leather split to about 0.5mm so I don't have to skive the edges.

It's called various ways. "Bookbinding reinforcement," "Mull," or "Super" is how you can find it. The one I use is from Etsy, but there is also something similar that can be bought on Amazon. Send me an email if you'd like me to send you links.

How big of an overhang do you use for the outside piece of leather so you can roll it and stitch it, also, how far in is your stitch line?
