    Hi all! I wanted to mention that I spoke with Tracy last week and she got incredibly sick after we filmed this. I think that may be why her photos weren’t up. I’ll be back to her home very soon and I know we’ll get her started.
    I have faith in her Great Unhoard project. For some, the first step of declutterng is not the act of fully removing the items, but simply getting items out of the immediate living space. It may not seem like progress to an outward perspective but it’s HUGE progress for the client because they’re taking the first step. And then, in time as they process this HUGE life change and process all the emotions attached, they begin to let go of more. Decluttering is a slow process in general, but sometimes even slower for some. That’s okay because it’s all about progress and even the act of boxing something up and saying “I don’t want this in my house, but I’m not quite ready to let it go so I’ll put it to the side.” - that is meaningful progress and the wheels in her head are turning. Without this, decluttering would never begin because the client would be too afraid to declutter in the first place. So I give them space to process their thoughts and in the meantime we’ll keep making progress in other areas and show them what it feels like to create this change in their home. It’s a layered process and I have complete faith in Tracy.
    For those being critical, we all say goodbye to our memories in different ways and even if that means that means we’re delaying goodbye, it’s okay. No two declutter journeys are the same and for some it will take more passes than others. Tracy made the brave decision to ask me for help and that’s what I’m going to do. …I’m excited for this series as to share with you this unique story of decluttering. Please be kind in the comments and remember that this is her journey, not yours.

      The Great Unhoard is totally a safe way for Tracy to feel comfortable starting that journey, and more power to her! It's awesome that she's innovating ways for herself to engage with decluttering without triggering that fear or panic. I hope she feels better soon and I'm really looking forward to seeing the project start! ♡

      Well said. A family member had mental health issues and was quite poor when she was young. The amount of clothes she hoarded, "just in case I lose weight, or need it" was incredible. When they had to move to senior housing (hubby had a stroke) she had to give up and let others empty her home. She decided she was ready as she really had no other choice (severe COPD and mobility issues at 86 yo). I feel it was actually a relief for her, as she was incapable of doing it and didn't have room in her new apartment. We all have our issues and reasons for doing/not doing things. Compassion is always the best way to view someones circumstances.

    I think we all knew that the great unhoard was simply a way for her to move her items out of her home but still have them and it may take her a while to actually allow herself to get rid of them. She has made great progress just by now having space in her home, congratulations. We’re all a work in progress!

    Tracy would be a fantastic buyer for boutiques / higher end department stores because she can source the best pieces like I’ve never seen. Tights from a particular street in Osaka? Bespoke pieces from Thailand? Socks from Korea? Your taste is impeccable. This is a first for me watching a decluttering series. I cannot empathize with most collectors that are seeking help to declutter. But Tracy’s passion for her garments and textiles has inspired me to curate special pieces moving forward - not just basics for a capsule wardrobe.

    I think The Great Unhoard will be most successful if you pick your top favorite 10% and dump the rest. You've put 100s of items in the pile and I think that will ultimately make the project overwhelming.

    • @Cecily-Pimprenelle
      @Cecily-Pimprenelle 8 месяцев назад +39

      I agree, but in order to do that, she kind of has to pre1select everything she thinks she might want to use for that project.
      She’ll go through a second pass (actually photograph vs declutter now) later on, and delaying that decision until later means she’s more efficient now.

      I think she wants to get rid of most of it anyway. But going through every piece one by one to make a last good memory with it can only be done when she doesn't have to think about dumping most of it in a pre-select. This process is all about staying in control, and taking pictures with it can make it easier to keep the memory and letting go of the physical item

    I know there is a range of opinions with regards to "the great unhoard" but it sounds like Tracy connects with clothing and style in a very personal way and I think it's really fun and nice to be able to say goodbye and/or thank you to a clothing piece through photographs. I know I've taken quick digital photos of things when I knew I had to give them away and it let me feel that I had it saved somewhere special that was just for me, and allowed for me to make physical space in my living arrangements that I knew I needed. Very much looking forward to see her art project come to life.

    • @Lucinda_Jackson
      @Lucinda_Jackson 8 месяцев назад +2

      I agree - except it isn't happening and I'm beginning to think it's very much a matter of not facing her reality and simply a way to hold onto things without saying you're actually keeping it all. With all of those mountains of shoes and clothes, the number of "sell" and "trash" items is awfully small...
      I hope she's able to come to grips with the hoard (it's not an "unhoard" since nothing is leaving) and can begin to let go of some of it.

      For me, it also feels like it collects items she knows she doesn't want but that she doesn't feel comfortable getting rid of. I really hope she does the projects with them or just donates/sells them. But I don't feel too optimistic about that.

    • @sherri.
      @sherri. 8 месяцев назад +23

      It’s part of her journey of decluttering. She might complete every single piece or maybe stop the project midway, no one knows yet, even Tracy. I went through a similar journey of trying to sell my mother’s nice clothing all new with tags, when she died. After shuffling and stuffing them in my small home, I finally donated them.

    • @JLJ2730
      @JLJ2730 8 месяцев назад +16

      I think it is less stress to put items in a box that you don't want but don't want to get rid of. Even if she never does her project, it may be easier to declutter it after it's been moved to that stack. That's how we declutter my daughter's toys, especially stuffed animals. We throw them in a trash bag and put them away for a few months. When she goes back to them, she is fine with tossing 95% of them.

    • @Iris-gy2mi

    Omggg, the sheer amount of clothing is overwhelming and takes me back to when I first began decluttering ~2011. Both my parents are kinda packrats, although you would never know to look in their houses. My mom is crafty and my dad is nostalgic. I always had the space as a teen and young adult to keep everything and not realize the impact. Clothing is my personal weakness in terms of accumulation and I had kept everything, including items my mom offered to me instead of just donating. I felt bad they would get donated so I took them, but never wore any of it. By the end of her time in her condo, my closet was packed to the gills and you couldn't even find anything, it was packed so tightly, and there were laundry baskets and boxes on the floor full of clothes. We only realized what a disaster it had become when she moved from her 4 story (including furnished basement and furnished attic) condo to a two bedroom apt and we filled the basement. I think the landlord wondered what in the world he had gotten himself into. I have been slashing away since then and I believe I am down to normal amount, but this video is bringing me right back, especially since I still love clothing and do tend to buy couple items a month.This series and Dani's (and some hoarders videos) have motivated me to get into my dresser and do some try-ons to weed out unworn clothing. I cannot wait for the next episode to drop.

      I remember my clothing hoard as well. I had clothes in storage that I paid rent on monthly. Absolute insanity! I now have two beautiful chest of drawers for all the clothing I own. If the drawers get too full, I declutter. I'm so much happier now.

    Tracey is a unique and wonderful human being. Her Great Unhoard is her way of organising her unique and wonderful life.
    It may be frustrating to some but that says more about them than it does about the magnificent Tracey.
    I often find that those with unsolicited advice , you know the opinion that wasn’t asked for, are probably just not looking inward too far. Because NONE of us are perfect and we ALL have struggles and irrational behaviours.
    I personally have a “quarantine” corner , where when I struggle, I place those items. After some time in that corner the magical emotional pull that that inanimate object once had on me, is diminished. Suddenly I can look at it with a clear vision and make a decision that is less emotional.
    Tracey you are on your way to a place that serves YOU better.

    I totally understand the great unhord project, because I'm doing the same, so I have a tipp:
    See it as multiple levels of declutteeing! 😊 Level 1 was the first round, decluttering trash and don't loved things. Level 2 is the second round with the Konmari method to decide was is liked and what is loved. And then we come to Level 3 which is decluttering loved but old / damanged / not fitting things! Level 3 is the time for take fotoshoots before letting the things go! 😊 Level 4 is to regulary go threw all things you have and train your brain to don't fall back to shopping & hording disorder. 😊

    It's good to see her progress but also the clothing items because they are so cool, cute and unique!! Also love her energy, I can only imagine how hard it's for her to keep going with this project with such uplifting spirit. She's an inspiration 🎉

    I'm really looking forward to more from these ladies. I really, really, really want to see Tracy's studio. I'm an artist too, and my studio has turned into a depression doom room! Need to make space for what I want to keep so I can quit the clutter cycle once and for all. Of course, I also decided to restore wintage Coach handbags, and bought more than I can realistically handle...but they're so pretty, lol!

    Instead of the Great Unhoard project. You could do what Dani did and video tape holding up the clothing and put in boxes of 100 items and sell the whole box. Do it by size ranges.

    Hoarding is mental disorder that often results from experiencing some form of trauma or loss. Helping her get a handle on "why" she thinks she needs all these items is typically the only way to have any lasting effects. I hope she works through the mental/ emotional journey to a healthier life.

    I've recently decluttered my bedroom, where I couldn't even turn on the light because it would make me sick just to look at the mess, so I love seeing your videos. They're so wholesome, so inspiring. I bought a couple of canvas boxes like Tracy's and what I did to fit more stuff inside was getting those vacuum bags, especially for winter wools. It worked great! I could fit more than twice the number of clothes in each box. Just leaving my two cents 😊
    Oh and I love Tracy's project 'The great unhoard"! I also take pictures of my shoes before letting them go and I have a story for each piece of clothing I own. I've put away 6 huge bags of really nice and already kinda vintagy clothes that will never fit me again (alas!) and I'm going to play 'boutique' with my friends and give them all away.

    Tracy has done an amazing job at letting go and I am really excited to see the ‘great unhoard’project. It’s going to take time and it will be worth it in the end. I have pictures of my sons wellingtons that he has grown out of but didn’t want to get rid of and he felt better about donating them.

    i'm a new viewer here. this is the 2nd vid i have watched with her since i got interested...
    however i feel anxious bec of the "great unhoard" and i kinda agree with some viewers what they think it is.
    This is why I HAVE SO MUCH RESPECT for the professional in this video. You have so much kindness & patience for the client. I hope that your client will find freedom from all this hoarding.

      Thank you! It's a long process that will take multiple passes, but I promised Tracy that I would see this through.💛 I think we all have a different declutter journey to take and this one is going to be more of a marathon, but I know that it's going to completely transform her home, life and relationship when we finish. (but it will take time to show that full transformation here.) Thanks for following along and thank you for your kind words. :)

    Hi 👋🏼 this is a truly helpful but confronting set of videos for me as I too have been holding on to clothing & accessories for many years… I’m a “creative” with such an abundance of ideas that I see potential in almost everything… or at least that’s what I tell myself!! I have been battling anxiety for many years without consciously understanding that all my “stuff” is the physical manifestation of terrible disorder, discomfort and emotional pain. I can say that this is a very real mental health issue that has a lot to do with attachment issues in early childhood… once that realisation dawned I was finally ready to help my poor struggling inner child that cannot let go of things which in turn has freed me to cleanse my mind and soul of my miserable hoarding which I had deluded myself into believing was some kind of happy place… it’s a huge emotional journey that I can see Tracy is on which has probably made her vulnerable to physical ill health… but time & inner self examination will heal.
