I was skeptical about wanting to even watch this (who the heck cares about seeing the Las Vegas Strip?), but as usual you failed to disappoint. Petroglyphs, Lake Mead, old mine roads, and grand views -- well worth the 14 minutes of my morning spent.
I thank you so much for these traveling videos, especially out in the desert like that! That's why I appreciate these so much you take me where I can't go anymore!!
Thanks for reminding me of a place I had forgotten about. Forty years ago the Old Mine Road (as we called it then) was where a group of us from Orange County would camp out often and the views of Las Vegas down the mountain were just a bonus. It does get awfully windy at night though and somewhere down that hill are the remains of several tents I had back then. Great video Steve and keep up the good work!

Cool! I visited Oatman a few weeks ago, the area is great for hiking. Also, I stayed at Laughlin and did a few hikes in the area. Spirit Wilderness has awesome petroglyphs.
I went to Oatman briefly the next day, but since it was a holiday weekend it was more packed than I've ever seen it. Great for Oatman, not so much for me though haha. I'll have something from that area next week. Spirit Wilderness area actually coming up soon too.
I’ve lived in the area for over 60 years. My experience with petroglyphs are they are usually between 10 and 20 feet above ground level, as far as quality and quantity go.
A very enjoyable adventure! While the circumstances were vastly different, this reminds me of looking at NYC from the Newark airport while on a very boring two.hour.layover waiting for our plane to Germany. A relative has petroglyphs at their property in east El Cajon; had people from the Museum of Man out to look at them. Supposedly made with insect blood, they were on the protected side of a large boulder down by the creek; a bit the opposite, with dark red/brown writing on light colored stone. What was extra special about the views you filmed, was the snow on the mountains behind Las Vegas. And always appreciate your humor. :)
We played a golf course in Henderson NV called The Revere. A lot closer than you are but my God the views of Vegas are absolutely fantastic! Thanks for taking us along on your sidetrack adventure!
I remember in the early 90s making a night run from somewhere in Utah to LA for a morning delivery. Coming down I15 and seeing a small patch of light in the distance, somewhere around St George that turned out to be Las Vegas.

Very cool adventure! I was laughing thinking I remember being on that road almost 50 years ago.... 😆!! Of course, then as a preteen, our family's objective was one of the few landings on the Arizona side of Lake Mead for camping, fishing, and boating "stuff" on the Lake! It was a great time! There was a couple of dune buggies around and we'd all drive around the area of the Lake...we didn't get to where you were. I remembered the road/trail names. I have to say, going there and camping out in JUNE/JULY 🔥🥵🔥... staying in the COOL Lake Mead water took precedent several times over three summers😅!! Like you said, Then as now, we hardly ever saw anyone else, except for hardcore native Arizonians like us, and the USFS people running around, managing the camping spots and boat ramps right at the Lake. It was strange over Fourth of July with open campsites All around and, LINES of people who were trying to get in at all the "popular" spots..... This is why we went to this area. There was a trade-off back then: if you ran out of ice and food (two full weeks of staying is a long time..) you had to grab your ice boxes and drive back to civilization and provision up again and drive back out. Not a big deal but just inconvenient 😊! Thanks for making that drive, Steve!!! Mmmmm....🤔 For some reason I have this taste for fresh fried catfish, cubed fries, Ranch Beans and salad!
