Same with Texas. That’s not her fault though. It seems like people in big cities these days just don’t have very strong regional accents. They tend to sound more like “standard American.”

I always find it interesting how many people will criticize accents from a particular region or country without realizing that there is no such thing as a specific accent. All people in all areas of the world have variations of their regional dialect. Therefore, as long as you are in the correct vocal range, all criticism is essentially invalid. Most people live within a microcosm of reality, and have little reference beyond that.

Sitting over here trying to figure what sort of accent to give a character, and I'm still at the first square. For some reason, the Texas accent reminded me of Clarice from Silence of the Lambs XDD
Here is a woman who is incredibly talented, become renowned for her ability to emulate a wide rang of accents often only differing with very small nuances and emphasis and yet people feel the need to pick up on her flaws. How many accents can you people do that say "Her Italian is off" or "Her Chec is off" You know whats really off?? You judgmental fools that can't appreciate a talent when they see it. Most people can't even hear the difference between different Aussie accents (for example) let alone mimic them. People these days just have to tear down instead of giving credit when it is due. Sad
+Ben Harris Eeeasy, Benny Boy. It's called the In-ter-net. Nobody is saying she sucks, but if there is a particular accent they think she's off on, they are free to point it out. 75K likes/4K dislikes. Those numbers don't lie.
+Ben Harris I know for a fact that I'm listening to pure talent, and I can't help but feel impressed and slightly angry about it. Impressed, of course, because of her skill of mimicking these multiple accents, yet angry because I have been studying this sort of thing for years and so far I'm only able to do the stereotypical radio announcer, and not even a good one. The only thing I have left I haven't done is work with a vocal coach, yet with my progress thus far and hearing how amazing she is with many of these, it's both encouraging, and discouraging at the same time since I want to strive to this, yet feel I'll never reach it. I give props to her and hope she has huge success, though that doesn't make me envy her abilities any less.
+Ben Harris You are right. And not only that, is that in the same city people can have different accents depending on education, socioeconomic status, etc. This is even more true with foreign accents, some foreigners can pick accents better than others so saying that she does not sound like a russian speaking English is absurd as some russians will have more or less accents than others. She is very good!
It's funny how 'non-accented' the Seattle accent sounds to me, being from the Pacific Northwest. To think that in theory, anyone who speaks in one of these ways will hear one neutral-sounding bit of this video.
@@blackforest825 Nahh it's not quite spot on -- something wrong in the words "five" and "born," like it went a little midwest. The vocal fry and cadence for "California, LA" were unmistakably us though :D
It sounds passable but it would be picked up as put on or maybe transplant if you had a full conversation with her if you were listening for it. Even my father (new england) who has been living here for longer than i've been alive doesn't quite sound like me (native).
+Otaku Is my nickname what part of the Chicago accent is Southern? I know the Chicago Black accent has Southern qualities, but I'm White. the Chicago accent is in the Northern family of US accent along with New York and Boston, minus the British influence. Chicago's accent is mostly mainland European influenced, and those people didn't have a significant impact on the Southern accent, so I'd like to know how the Chicago White accent is Southern influenced, because the Northern Cities Vowel Shift isn't present in any part of the South.
+Otaku Is my nickname I also forgot to add that if you go outside the Chicagoland metro area, the accents become more "Midwestern" and neutral / Standard American. Neither North nor South. But Chicago's accent in Whites is strictly Northern since we don't have many Southern roots here.
I am a long time fan of Amy Walker. I have been watching this video since I was 12. I am now 25, just as she is in this video, and I can't believe this is the first time I have noticed she barely blinks. Very impressive work Amy! Love the aussie accents. Keep it up - Manet from the Aus .
Still amazing!! Happy upcoming birthday September 1st, Ms. Walker! Your age remains a secret because you are indeed timeless and forever preserved! Thank you for the many adventures you have taken your devoten fans on and the many exotic places we have been, just by your beautiful voice!
I'm Argentine, after watching a lot of series and movies (now i see em without subs) i was able to note the diference in the accents. I must say i prefer a lot the US ones, especially the mid west and California, they sound very clean and clear, many of the others just confuses me in some words. Funny this thing of accents, i live in the Rosario area in Argentina, and when i was in Buenos Aires people there inmediatelly noted where i was from, and we both speak rioplatense spanish (very imperative, with voseo, seseo, yeismo) and separated by only 300 km, still there was a diference and i note even a diference between the way of speaking in my town and the Rosario city 50 km away.

Brooklyn accent sounds more like Boston but still impressed with the variety of voices, if this vid didn't have almost 10 million views you'd be recruited as a spy by now.
I was reminded of this video by someone on the Vanity Fair video - I remember that I saw this when you first uploaded it. So good! I'd love to see more reviews of movie accents where you do the accents as you're talking about them ❤
Wow! It's finally happened! I've finally seen somebody who can do more accents than I can! You sure SO CRAZY GOOD! I've always had a tough time trying to talk with an accent from around Fargo N.Dakota. there is something so fun about the way they talk there. You know, the "Ok sure. You betchya". The way the actors talk in movie DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, is so funny. I can do a few words but that's all. You are VERY good my dear. I liked your UK accents the best!
Well, I'm super impressed by all these accents! However, I'd have loved to hear more variants on "Deep southern". Like once you said "Chahleston" it was pretty obvious that was the one you were going for (and you nailed it!), but you ought to give some of the others a try like southern Appalachian, piedmont GA/AL or even like tidewater VA, all of which sound totally different! At least to my ears. Like you could seriously do a whole video just on those. But I'm sure you could also say the same about different regions of N.A. just as much, I mean Vancouverites and Quebecois don't sound much alike, nor do people from Brooklyn and people from Syracuse. I wanna see them all!
Sameeee it's very valley talk or ghetto well, varies. Also I noticed that too her 25 was more like another accent tried slipping through so totally agree with you on that. Not very California.
I can only comment on her Brooklyn, but the way she said five like "foiv" made her sound more Australian. That feature isn't exagerrated to such a degree in Brooklyn. If I had to place the way she said "five" like "foiv", it would be more Philly and even more exagerrated than Sean Monahan's Philly for that matter (which he admits is comically exagerrated).
+Edouard Garça I panned down just for this. As far as I could tell, she nailed every accent....with the exception of Brooklyn. It just wasn't on the money at all. However, I am certain with another take she would be very convincing. Just not that take.

This video has been a meme between myself and my Brother since we first watched it back in 08.
I'm Czech, I live in Brno (2nd biggest town in the Czech Republic) and czech accent is little bit rougher. We have sharp "R" as in Hungary, Poland or Russia. But I'm very suprised and happy that someone have idea to make czech accent ! Pozdrav z České Republiky :-)
Yes in Hungary has the hard R
Nazdar, vole!
Sitting over here trying to figure what sort of accent to give a character, and I'm still at the first square.
For some reason, the Texas accent reminded me of Clarice from Silence of the Lambs XDD
***** I noticed it, too. She definitely had that Jodie Foster thing going on.
***** WHAT? I THOUGHT THE SAME THING! I just watched that movie recently, though.
Me too with a slight Reba
Hello Clarice :3
IsabelleSandbank Hello Dr. Lecter
That New Zealand accent was perfect Amy! Not many people can get our accent right
Are you from there? : D
Hasufel y Arod Yup! Born and raised there my friend :)
Pleased and honoured to meet you, pal.
I assumed New Zealand's accent was pretty similar to Australian.
Please tell me of your country.
Hahaha no, must not confuse the kiwis with kangaroos :P
Excellent. I checked some info about New Zealand. It was very enlightening. I'd love to listen New Zealand slang and accent.
Any one of us from NY/NJ have to love how she starts the Brooklyn accent by screaming at someone, that was PERFECT and TRUE!
Here is a woman who is incredibly talented, become renowned for her ability to emulate a wide rang of accents often only differing with very small nuances and emphasis and yet people feel the need to pick up on her flaws.
How many accents can you people do that say "Her Italian is off" or "Her Chec is off"
You know whats really off??
She is very good!
amazing!! She's like one of the only people I have ever seen actually get the New Zealand accent right! She's really good at accents!!!!
Who is Amy Waller?
dieselworld walker
She literally said her name like 474765376 times n u still couldn't get it straight SMH
Who od John galt?
timeless - 16 years on YT and still amazing people
Awwww haha thanks so much! 🥹🥰 We’re doing a lot on the @21accents channel these days, if you’re down to nerd out with me and our awesome coaches 🤓😉
I never get tired of watching this, Amy! you are so very talented. Your transatlantic accent is just my favorite thing.
I HATE HER FOR THIS! THE THINGS I WOULD BE DOING IF I COULD DO ALL THOSE ACCENTS
She got paid for this
It has 10m views
Like...what?
It's funny how 'non-accented' the Seattle accent sounds to me, being from the Pacific Northwest. To think that in theory, anyone who speaks in one of these ways will hear one neutral-sounding bit of this video.
Seattle is *pretty* close to the standard American accent. So is the lower midwest, like Ohio
ja8ames she’s from seattle
The fact she is from Seattle and take it easy
I had to rewind a couple times and listen for anything out of the ordinary
saame
Bro when she hit that California one 💀
The best one
@@blackforest825 Nahh it's not quite spot on -- something wrong in the words "five" and "born," like it went a little midwest. The vocal fry and cadence for "California, LA" were unmistakably us though :D
@@annafantasia WOAH you seem knowledgable "the cadence blah blah vocal fry" woahhhh🧐🧐
It sounds passable but it would be picked up as put on or maybe transplant if you had a full conversation with her if you were listening for it. Even my father (new england) who has been living here for longer than i've been alive doesn't quite sound like me (native).
You left out the gem and standard of American English: Midwestern Accent.
The Midwest accent isn't always the standard, especially if from up North like Chicago or Minneapolis
+U238 I feel like if anyone non-American tries to do an American accent it's usually a southern or Cali valley accent...
+Edouard Garça Nah, I live a town over from Chicago, we have a mix of a southern and mid-west without the annoying-ness of the minneapolis.
Damn...I remember watching this when she first posted it. ahh...I'm getting old haha.
I only really know the New Zealand Accent, and she did it perfectly
***** Lol wut?... 76 % of population is white... Italians>Spaniards>German-swiss>Syrian-Libanese>French>Polish>Russian>Welsh-Irish-English. 3% of population is aboriginals and 1% african inmigrants as refugees.
***** Nope... is not... 50% of Brazil inhabitants are from european origin, the other half are blacks, aboriginals and mixed races.
Argentvs Capo, you havent seen enough james bond movies to prefer American over English (much classier)
Argentvs Capo, you havent seen enough james bond movies to prefer American over English (much classier)
I watch Doctor Who, and there is a lot of british actors in many movies and series. I dont like, the only british accent i like is Matt Smith accent, and maybe Sean Connery.
She is so talented her skill is incredible!
Wow, that was an impressive collection of accents! Thank you Amy :)
nailed new zealand
The transatlantic accent is the best.
Yeah, it's the classic American accent of the educated and upper class. Or at least it was. Such a rarity to find people can use it well these days.
It's so pretty to me
Right? I wish she would do a tutorial solely on the transatlantic accent.
***** You've actually found someone who speaks in that imaginary accent?
Wonderful! What a delight to revisit again and again over the years! Splendid!
Came up in my feed again. Just had to see you again. Brilliant!
she did not blink once
Brooklyn accent sounds more like Boston but still impressed with the variety of voices, if this vid didn't have almost 10 million views you'd be recruited as a spy by now.
Boston???? No sir....Not even close. :-(
I was reminded of this video by someone on the Vanity Fair video - I remember that I saw this when you first uploaded it. So good! I'd love to see more reviews of movie accents where you do the accents as you're talking about them ❤
I keep coming back to this video, too.. I remember sharing this with my friends like, 6+ years ago, and now RUclips has reminded me it exists lmao
Its now 12 years old, and the worst part is I still remember seeing it like 10y's ago.
This is amazing.. although "Standard British accent" , most of us are nowhere near that posh :)
the trans Atlantic accent is fantastic
I want to learn how to do a 1940's Transatlantic accent.
I could listen to her talk all day.
“What?! Of course I’m doing the thing!!” 😂😂
I love this intelligent girl, she shoud be an actress
She is.
that Texas one was Reba.
who is ironically from Oklahoma, they are neighbors though so close enough
Aww thanks kindred! Vibes to the joy of kaleidoscopic expression! ✨💎✨
Love all the accents and I can vouch for the Aussie and Kiwi ones... excellent!
SHE NAILED THAT BROOKLYN ACCENT. My 4th grade teacher sounded just like that!
That's the first video about English accents from those I've ever watched and it's still the best. Thanks, Amy.
1:55 rage
lol i'm doing the thing

*Three questions that will never be answered:*
1. What's inside of a black hole
2. What the meaning of life is
_3. This woman's name_
I've lived in LA my whole life, and her Californian accent is pretty ok, but when she says 25, you can tell she isn't from here. Lol
Just not that take.
someone here can help me to improve my English. my skype. hicham. tobi1
i remember watching this vid a decade ago, so nice to go through best vids i've watched throughout the years again
Best Aussie and Kiwi accent done by an American!
Damn shes good, couldnt tell which accents was hers lol
***** I couldnt
***** Not even close. Here Cali accent was off when she said her age and when she said California
***** She was born in Seattle, Washington. So she was probably raised there and lives in California now.
What is her name?
Lol

The most fascinating for me is the Californian and Texan accent.
