This is by far THE best review of the A119S Dashcam. I just picked it up but haven't mounted it yet, also your USB hardwiring video is excellent, thank you.
So which dashcams around the same price point allow you to read the actual license plates? That's all I care about and there are so many to choose from.
Great review but it looks like you have the A119S v2 which changed to an f1.8 lens as they had focus issues with the f1.6 lens in the original A119S. A lot of spec sheets and product pages haven't bothered updating this information though so still suggest its f1.6.
can you use only the g-sensor? and motion detections disabled? I mean that if someone moves in front of the car, the recorder will not come on, but if someone touches the car, for example, hits or scratches then the recorder records?
No, as I belabored in the video, the USB power supply basically means the camera is either on and recording, or not, and there's no true parking functionality. The g-shock sensor is mostly there to lock files in the event of an accident. They are working on a faux parking mode that will use both g-shock and motion detection but it remains to be seen how practical that will be.
I am using this one, it suits me fine. There are other choices obviously. I will want to get a parking mode of some sort working at some point, and it would be nice to have higher res (4K cameras will become the norm sometime).
you mentioned that you did not like the cable supplied rather than a direct power line from 12 vlts in the vehicle , is that because YOU DIDN'T WANT TO SAY that the unit is only a 5 VOLT system ? so if you had done your homework, is to LOOK at the inline 5 volt cable directly to the vehicles battery or line system , but it seems your being knowledgeable is not forcomming, but you did say about 5 volt power later .
It's a low frame-rate recording mode intended for parking mode, which this camera doesn't really support properly. To see more check out my review of the more fully featured A129 Duo.
MarkLayfield why que to go straight ahead when he wants to turn right? so long as he's careful that's fine to do, the markings dictate he's off roading though so he has to give way if a car wants to pull out...
Sorry another question. You said that if you didn’t record speed and position then the dashcam viewer would show it anyway. Presumably then if someone, the cops maybe, had the SD card they would be able to read the speed?
The video shows you both answers to those q's. You could obviously take the SD card out, but if you connect the camera to PC via USB it will act in mass storage mode. The GPS if connected and on will always record data in the video files, but the option to embed it visually in the picture is separate to that. So if police obtain the files (e.g. serious crash investigation) yes they could read the data, but if you were selecting what evidence to present yourself in a minor case then you could ignore it - you would have the choice unlike having it always baked into the video.
Craig's DIY Car Thank you for replying and by the way your video is excellent. Sorry for being thick but how do you keep a copy of a video without the speed data showing?
Hi, this is Caroline. I’m a amazon seller. Recently we have a new dash cam which is 4K UHD resolution with GPS and Wi-Fi, more powerful features like G-Sensor, Motion Detection, Loop recording, Parking Monitor and more. Please let me know If you have any interests to review and making videos for this product, thanks.
Hi. How did you do that your videos from the camera on yt are of high quality. When I uploaded my films to YT, in places where the lighting changes dynamically, the quality is low chomiczek.uploadfile.pl/pobierz/1399212---wz3c/5316677400_1326980696.jpg
Are you uploading them directly off camera? If so I don't know. If editing 1st make sure it's 1080p60 (or whatever matches your camera settings) and export using a high bitrate.
Do not buy this rubbish camera. It has poor quality connecting apparat to the gps device. So the connection always causes the problem while it runs. When you come home you don’t find the files on this device because poor connection. I’m so regret
The version shown has a fix for that problem. Does yours have the same connection as shown and have you applied the foam padding as shown? If you have the old one I suggest you complain to Viofo and ask for a replacement.

Your kidding right ?.
THIS IS THE BEST REVIEW I HAVE SAW ON RUclips ABOUT THIS DASH CAM.
Talented review, so British from not Britain indeed. Nice to see that you're still driving the Mondeo MK3, like myself.
Thank you for doing this video. It is such complete, comprehensive, informative review and helpful demonstration with computer too.
i bought one these craig and got it the cheapest price on bang good craig £57 thank you buddy
a wonderfully paced and comprehensive review. thank you!
Your fuken kidding right, you need your hearing tested ?
This was awesome, so unusual seeing a video from where I live :)
Enjoy looking at that traffic...
good ol lincoln road
Cheers for the review mate- very helpful.

It's about as good as you'll get for the money, in terms of the resolution. You could also try: ruclips.net/video/l07rtvNkHBs/видео.html
Hi, New Subscriber... Just seen your review of the A119s, would love to know what you think a good all rounder Dash cam would be?
So which dashcams around the same price point allow you to read the actual license plates? That's all I care about and there are so many to choose from.
Hi there was a firmware update for this model put out. it addressed a few issues . you might find it helpful.
What is the length of the video you can take? Is it 1-10 minutes then it overwrites? is it it 3+ hours then overwrites? I have a 64gb class 10 card.
It can make 4 types of records. 1 min, 2 min, 3 min and no pauses.
Great review but it looks like you have the A119S v2 which changed to an f1.8 lens as they had focus issues with the f1.6 lens in the original A119S. A lot of spec sheets and product pages haven't bothered updating this information though so still suggest its f1.6.
It's labeled as f/1.6 on my packaging but you may be right. Do you know if there's a way to compare the lens by inspection?
Craig's DIY Car if you do a search on RUclips for "a119s dashcam lens comparison" that should show you. I think it does look like the f1.8 you have.
can you use only the g-sensor? and motion detections disabled? I mean that if someone moves in front of the car, the recorder will not come on, but if someone touches the car, for example, hits or scratches then the recorder records?

Can you recommend a dashcam? What would you buy yourself?

What is meant by "time-lapse recording" on the menu ?
It's a low frame-rate recording mode intended for parking mode, which this camera doesn't really support properly. To see more check out my review of the more fully featured A129 Duo.
thanks for the video, but take care mate; your driving is a touch overly aggressive...
17:20 what was that about??
MarkLayfield why que to go straight ahead when he wants to turn right? so long as he's careful that's fine to do, the markings dictate he's off roading though so he has to give way if a car wants to pull out...
How do u transfer video from the dashcam?
I would like to know why they only install behind the rearview mirror instead below the rearview mirror?
Well you can put it where you like, but below the mirror on most car windscreens means it will be blocking some of the driver's view.
@@CraigsDIY But i saw a dashcam like Vantrue that have two lens bellow the rearview mirror
Very well done video! We want to invite you to review our AKASO 1080P60 FHD Dash cam. Could we have further discussion?
would you keep filter on craig ?
Yes always.
thank you buddy have a nice week
What software do you use at 13.30 min in the video.
It's Dashcam Viewer, which I don't like - but it works.
Craig's DIY Car So do you take the SD card out and insert it into computer? Or do you connect the 119s to the computer? Sorry new to all this. Thanks.

yep, the movies are directly from camera 1980,60fps. When i upload movies to YT, I do not set anything. I just upload movies and the YT converts

You could connect it to the power of the dome light using this: amzn.to/2H9UBjm
If I did that it would have semi-permanent power and not switch off.
