Used to fly the A380 regularly with Air France from JFK-CDG and I vividly remember my mom taking her first A380 flight with me (she has a fear of flying) and mentioning that it was the first time she had no fear whatsoever since not only is it so quiet, but its hard to tell when you are even taking off since the true size of the aircraft. A truly wonderful plane to experience. Before AF retired them, I would only book 380 flights.

The way ANA is facilitating the boarding from the upstairs lounge directly to to the A380s upper deck is just amazing - this is how Airbus designers must have imagined the customer experience. Also, I wasn't aware of the large passenger volume on the route...

Some airports in the world are great because they have iconic architecture (like Singapore, Doha, or the walkways in Paris). Honolulu, though, is great as it's one of the few that really bring local culture into its design. You'll know, from almost every camera shot, where in the world you are.

I flew on the ANA A380 HNL-NRT pre-pandemic. Enjoyed the experience. Where NRT is concerned, I remember when it was the primary airport for international flights. The rail system is efficient and was (my) mode of transportation back in the 1990's, so the hour ride meant 60 more minutes to enjoy scenery.

I flew the same flights from HNL to NRT and back earlier this month in business class. I enjoyed every minute of it. I could've flown from LAX, but instead decided to fly from HNL just to fly on the "flying honu." If I had one complaint, I would say the cabin temperature on the return flight was too hot. Maybe it was that comforter. But that aside, I loved both flights. Service was great as was the food!

Besides travelling to Iran to fly classic planes or doing the United Airlines Island Hopper, a flight on ANA's A380 is real high on my avgeek bucket list. ANA was my favorite airline growing up as a kid obsessed with travel in Japan and the service is so unique. The aircraft is so nicely decorated inside and out, to set the scene for Hawaii. I have flown on A380s 4 times and after 8 years, will fly on one again this December with Asiana. I don't remember thinking much of it apart from how cool sitting on the upper deck was.
As time went on, started to consume more aviation content as I went into my teenage years and especially during COVID time, I became more aware of the praise the A380 gets from passengers. Having just got off an A350 flight, I can't help but think whether that hype is justified. The A350 is also very quiet, smooth and spacious, but I don't ever hear people say they would pay a premium or go out of their way to book a flight on the A350. I guess the A380's special status is held in higher regard amongst travelers. I guess I'll find out in a few months time.

Excellent trip report Patrick from what I can see they are five-star skytrax carrier just like their fellow Star Alliance partners Eva Air Singapore Airlines and across Sea of Japan South Korea Asiana Airlines. My family only My Father's Side chooses ANA for LAX to MNL via NRT/HND while my mothers side uses PR LAX-MNL which includes the B777-3F6/ER you flew on RP-C7774/RP-C7775. You should have domestic lounge access since ANA recognizes your Mileage Plus Star Alliance Gold status. Better option is actually ANA Mileage Club Star Alliance gold status over Mileage Plus because you can access United clubs like San Francisco Newark airport terminals A and C in addition to ANA lounges for domestic Japan travel. Regarding EWR Terminal C United Clubs you are going to encounter polish German Swiss and Austrian Miles and More HON Circle status members there.
