There are so many parking lots that are underutilized I would think any commercial developer would see this as a way to subsidize them. Main thought is the sprawling tarmac around sports stadiums. They are great big heat sinks throughout much of the year and usually only get about 30% usage unless they're in a region where they can be retasked as municipal parking. And of course this application is useful for both active parking lots, and rarely used lots as an income stream.

Also, I remember when solar freaking roadways became a huge viral moment, my first thought was, why would you want reduced efficiency (glass), difficult to install solar cells under your vehicle when you could protect it with solar freaking canopies over the highway, which reduces the impact of sun and rain and could power street lighting. Not only that it would probably make the highway asphalt last longer. Maybe you should hire the unscientific marketer from the solar freaking roadways campaign to do a viral video mea culpa update saying "solar freaking canopies for every parking lot and highway"?

Once EVs take hold by 2025. I can see the rush for chargers and solar. The concept of charging convenience everywhere is a few years away. Parking lots will be real estate and companies will jockey for the best parking spaces.
