You could stack both decks, which would allow you to say "Pick one of these decks and place it in your pocket" in the beginning of the trick.

Even if you didn't bother learning a stacked system, just use the new deck order, & when you have them remove the cards & count them down, simply deal the cards face DOWN, turning over the card when they get to the number they arrive at.

I loved the fact that you taught this so much I’m leaving two comments to give away some small effects or concepts I use!
I also like using the force in this performance for a CAAN I still use on occasion - I instead reveal the card brainwave style. I just use my red herring style deal force (but this force is perfect too).
As for the reveal, You already have the force card at whatever number you put the card at in the other closed box (the one you set up and magician’s choice for the deck used to count to their card). Go through the force process. Once they have a card, they put it in the middle of the deck and close them back In their box (obviously the box matching the design and color). When you deal the cards, deal from the top into a faceup pile. Once you’re approaching their number start doing necktie deals. At their card, pause before asking what it is. Once they see it dealt at the number you chose they’ll freak. It will be the only card with a different color back- even more freaked. I use a back design different from both displayed decks so they can check and see that both decks all have the same back design. The third back design is only worn by their card! Love effects with handling done by the spectator. You only dealt cards. They’ll think you have super sleight of hand!
It’s a simpler version of this trick with a kicker finish and will look just as good as this and to laypeople, they’ll prolly like it a bit better despite the fact that you don’t do anything in this effect except write and give instructions! It’s brilliant! I’m like this man. I like to try as best I can to strip away all other unnecessary elements of tricks down to it’s simplest form. If laypeople (which is who we perform for) can’t tell the difference between a beginner version and a master version of two tricks with the same exact effect and just different methods, what’s there to decide? You perform the simpler one and practice the more sleight intensive one. If you’re a performer that’s obvious. Incorporate the sleight intensive one until you can make it as automatic as a self worker. It’s a wonderful idea - just not always practical bc sleight of hand gets so intricate and fascinating and has endless possibilities.

Brian, thanks for that. Really like your idea and thinking. As with all CAAN tricks there are many ways to play it. I think I was trying to show other fellow magicians the Bart Harding stack and how it could be used. I think I'll have a go with your method later. thanks for sharing.

Totally Magic My pleasure. When I do it I perform that Red Herring style force. It’s extremely deceptive.
I’m also glad and very appreciative that you shared the Harting system. It’s simple yet intricately and diabolically constructed - so much potential for pure magic from it. I love your videos even if I know the effect ahead of time. You strip things away to it’s bare essentials and that gives you the performer time to make the audience feel as in on the magic as you the performer. My style isn’t a look at how good I am and look at all these moves. Ideally I want my magic to look like nothing is happening. It seems we agree on said principle! Keep it up my friend. If you ever are stumped for a vid and want to mash concepts, tricks, magic theory - I’d love to whenever our schedules sync. 👏🏻 my friend

Hi, many thanks for your tricks, I like a lot of them. Looked into the Harding stack, but having trouble knowing what to do if when the number is reversed, the first number is less than 5, how can you take away 5 from 2 for example? Can you enlighten me please?

    Great CAAN! 👍🏻
That force is so fun btw! You can make it a red herring force too if you memorize the 3rd card from the top. They deal. Once past the 3rd Card it’ll work. They can shuffle the remaining cards as they deal in clumps or one and a time, all until they’re done. Tell them to burn the top and bottom in case you glimpsed them though and briefly explain why cards are burned in poker (the spectators put the burned cards in the middle). Either tell them to spread the cards until they think half is in each hand or Tell them to cut off half of the cards (as close as they can to half) and magician’s is force the half on the table. Stress that they mixed the entire deck and now picked a pile. Tell them to burn the top and bottom card again bc u might have peaked (they burn the top as well just for continuity’s sake). Turn your back and tell them to glimpse the bottom card quickly and add that stack to the other half. Done. They just glimpsed your force card.
The key is emphasizing they’re shuffling. They’re dealing. They’re making all the decisions and you’re making this selection cheat proof by having them shuffle, deal, and even burn the cards like a dealer. You gave them complete control. You drop these hints of the fairness you are allowing to take place as the whole process takes place up until the card is glimpsed and you turn back around. Anyways. Hope you all try that and have fun and success with it!
The basic force in the effect in this tutorial is a guide for so many other ways to force a card.

WOW ! a incredible card trick as we never meet that often... worthy to compete with "out of this universe" , just a question: do you find these tricks by yourself ?

    • @totallymagic

Shared among members of our local magic club, and I own just over 113 magic books dating back to 1942, so I get to read tricks from years ago, that suddenly appear as commercial tricks today! Some of the tricks I devise myself just from messing about the the cards.
