Snow White and the Seven Dwarves: we all probably all know the grim tale! The jealous Step-Mother Queen, on hearing from her magic talking mirror of a a new beauty, sends a huntsman to collect the organs of her too-pretty-too-kind step-daughter, Snow White, who must flee the castle and run into the “Wild Forest” to escape. She then encounters 7 mining dwarves in the 7 hills of the kingdom. They take her in, but the angry stepmother pursues her, eventually tricking Snow white into eating a poisoned apple, and, to all appearances, dying. The dwarves put her in an extremely fancy glass coffin, through which a prince sees her body, “rescues” her, and marries her. The Stepmother queen must dance in red-hot iron shoes until she dies at their wedding party. Happily ever after!
So how is this funny? Where’s the joke?!
    Apparently, this is true!
Well… parts of it. Most of it? That’d be wild, huh? Was Snow White a real person? Get comfy, get cozy, and let's get set to uncover Snow White's clearly creepy origins!

For me, what really makes this a joke theory is that it really does fit TOO perfectly. In Grimm’s notes (and other German and European tale collections) there are so many variants where the timeline changes, where the details are different, where there aren’t dwarves but ravens, robbers or Snow White’s brothers; where there’s no glass coffin or magic mirror, but a dog, sometimes CALLED Mirror, or random strangers, or the Moon.
The story from Lohr fits too well with the one the Grimms published, and not just that, it mostly resembles the much more famous censored version from 1857, instead of the version first published in 1812, where the Evil Queen isn’t Snow White’s stepmother, but her biological mother.

Nearly laughed out loud at the MatPat reference, gotta admit. Also would admit it'd be intriguing to see him do a collab of some kind with you. You could cover another 'fairy tale theory' from different angles, and I bet it would drive a lot of interested traffic your way. Just a thought...

This is quite interesting, though have you heard of margaretha von waldeck? Her life also follows the snow white tale surprisingly well. I think you'd be interested in that story as well.🖤

It's also feasible like many other legends and folk lore references, that the Grim's "Snow White" is an amalgam of stories. There seems to be several towns, girls, and tales that fit a little too well for a comforting distance between vile treachery in old families of folk lore and "real life" history... It COULD be that the Grim boys just found a few too many such tales a tad similar, and crafted their own derivative of the bunch of them...
Also worth a mention, Belladonna gets its name from old Italian or Latin for "pretty girl"... According to some stories (AND I've seen a recipe or two in really old moldy books) young women would brew a concoction not terribly unlike tea from the flowers of the belladonna plant, and use this stuff as eyedrops to dilate their pupils. At the time, this dilation was considered "suggestive" and therefore attractive... It's listed under some of the darker sides of beauty and "witch craft"(???)...
I don't know about witch craft... BUT it's worth admitting that we (humans) have apparently known about the dilation of pupils when one sees something he or she REALLY wants... or finds remarkably interesting or attractive. I can't say I'd endorse dripping atropine (which is the chemistry involved) or tea into one's eyes for any reason. I would suspect it to be more effective at achieving a blood-shot look than anything I'd consider attractive... though admittedly I've been reluctant to mess with the stuff myself, so no real experience there.
Another name for belladonna is "deadly nightshade", since atropine IS very easy to concentrate into toxic quantities without prior knowledge about the toxicity and its general care and handling. We were trained in the U.S. Navy to use auto-syringes of the stuff in case of neurotoxic effects in Chemical warfare countermeasures, so it DOES have significant medical purpose in modern society. It's not 100% always lethal, either. It is a pretty solid depressant to the Central Nervous System, and quite potent, so in fairly minute amounts it can achieve a cardio-pumonary collapse which is (at least according to what I was told) how it tends to kill you...
With that understood, should someone actually possess some rudimentary knowledge, it wouldn't be difficult to imagine them using that to derive a potent atropine tea/extractive with which an apple or similar fruit could be rendered extremely toxic... Furthermore, I'd hazard to suggest that teas and similar water-based extractions DO tend to be kind of all over the place where potency is concerned, and if only a portion of the "apple" was eaten, the way a younger person might have a snack in midday... It's possible that rather than being toxic enough to render them dead, might only severely depress biofunctions for a "deathly sleep"... like a coma for days.
Now, DO keep in mind, this is all supposition and highly theoretical. I'm not about to say anything like, "This is how it really happened"... I'm only bringing to bear some of my dubious knowledge of toxicology and historical reference to say, "It could be feasible"... which is a LONG way from anything definite. It wouldn't be "deadly nightshade" if someone had NEVER been poisoned by the stuff... and as with many poisons over the centuries, some few legendary folks have survived being poisoned by some pretty obnoxiously potent toxins...
Rasputin, the Mad Monk, comes to mind... BUT you'd have to take some of the accounts "at face value" and with little legitimate evidence for him, even as recently as he supposedly bought it. Still a story worth looking into... ;o)

When i was a kid i went to Lohr with my summer camp and i found the idea of a snow white city so romantic but i guess this kinda shatters the illusion... This year i will go there as a camp youth leader and i will probably tell the kids that it is the true snow white city anyways haha 😅🤣 great video as always💕
Update: I am back from summer camp and this year we went to see a snow white theatre show (?) in the neighboring town and they seemed pretty self aware that it isnt the for real origin of the fairy tale. So yeah... Thought i would comment that real quick 😆😅

Brothers Grimm wrote a lot of things in their tales that were "common knowledge" back then. Now it's forgotten knowledge and modern readers need commentary, notes, or rewrites to explain the mistaken.

I don’t why it cannot be loosely based on a true event, even if much of it is just conjecturing. I mean, “Beauty and the Beast” is also evidently inspired by a true event, and that tale is just as fantastical as the rest.

The Brothers Grimm didn't write any of their Fairy Tales they transcribed them. Their fairy tale books were works of cultural preservation. The notion that only they could know the origins of the stories they recorded is absurd.

There‘ s a second woman who might’ve influenced the Grimm‘s. Margaretha von Waldeck. It’s believed both Maria Sofia (who was actually hunted by a local Hunter by the stepmother‘s request and fled) and Margaretha who was poisoned because of jealousy most likely both influenced the Grimms. You can read this up in the Internet somewhere I‘m sure. I‘m a german native speaker and there are different Documentaries about it

I mean!!! The Grimm brothers who’s stories we tell today were from Germany. The stories they told were from legends from Germany. Pretty sure if you want to find any origins you could just look up rulers before the Grimes birth and go from there.
