Very beautiful snakes. Cool and interesting video.
Glad you enjoyed it - thanks Kev!
Well, now that I know how to distinguish those green snakes from each other, I need to practice. This is a sign. I'm supposed to take a trip to S. Africa.
Guess I should add some adder and cobras videos too videos…add to your sign you know.
Fantastic Tyrone, such great info, I’m going to use this as a reference to send out to people asking me for IDs
They're so well behaved.
V interesting, but I'm in Thailand. Lots of green snakes here, some are very unpleasant and grumpy.
Lime green n black striped snake
Great video, often have to ID photos of all three species for friends and it can get confusing! Thanks for your great content!
Thanks for watching Shaun! They are tricky group of snakes especially if you’ve not seen them first hand. hopefully in hand comparing them in the video helps others.
Such an amazing creature of god, among many others. Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to visit South Africa.
An exciting place to visit - thanks for checking it out!
@@TyronePingHerpingSouthAfrica You're welcome brother!! :)
Really useful video!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Fantastic vid, thank you. I've learnt the difference over years just by catching each one and learning by repetition. But I find it difficult to explain to my non-herp friends in a way that grabs them. I'll definitely refer to this vid as the most concise, informative and visual explanation that I know of. Definitely the first time I've seen them all together in one place so I'm very appreciative sir!!
Would be great to have a green water snake!!
thanks Dean! it would have been perfect I did go out looking for a Green water snake but only turned up a dead one and of course didn’t want to hold these snakes captive longer than needed. in time I’ll likely film and re-edit to include the green water.
Thanks again for your comment!
I'm a snake!!!!!

Super interesting content ! Beautiful specimens. 🧐
I'm surprised I haven't seen these featured in the "hobby" in the states, at least. (Maybe this is a good thing)
Or maybe because of diet ?
Regardless, beautiful topic / stunning animals 🙂
Thanks for the positive feedback Tim - appreciate it!
The main factor is South Africa has a zero export policy on wild caught reptiles and these animals die to local laws are not kept on the trade. They additionally are nervous, active snakes they don’t settle and often die in captivity soon after. many other Philothamnus are exported from east and west Africa often as “African bush snakes” which is largely to exporter and importer not knowing the species.
These three species feed largely on geckos, small lizards and frogs.
@@TyronePingHerpingSouthAfrica Thank you for the reply. And this makes perfect sense! 😊
