When I was young, a friend and I dropped into a Scientology centre for a free personality test as a joke. The results led to me being rejected, and they tried hard to get my friend to join. A cult didn’t want me 😭😂
Me also. I was not wanted 😂😂😂
They don’t want people with a strong sense of self 1:27
Lucky you!!
A friend of mine was supposed to meet me at a street corner in Toronto. The corner had a Scientology chapter there. When I met her she was talking to one of their people and wanted me to talk to them too. So I went over and they got maybe three sentences out when I went nope, nope, nope, nope out of there taking my friend with me. I said they were a cult and later it proved me right. Did she thank me? No. She thought they were a benign cult that just wanted everyone to have fun. 😨
I'm sure you were heartbroken 😂😂 NOT!
Congratulations on being normal 🎉
For Tom’s wives, I think this is a perfect example of a toxic relationship. You know something’s wrong, can’t quite put your finger on it, think you’re over thinking and even worse are blinded by love in the midst of all of that. I think it takes time to realize that your life is actually on fire. Kinda like the frog in hot water story. Glad the wives eventually got out of it
Yes! I think you might be right!
Spot on!
Katie did things very well. She never used phones to which scientology had access, she made sure her child was with her, outside of Scientology properties, when Cruise was served with divorce papers. I bet he was livid! I wonder if he jumped up and down on the couch? Anyone remember the infamous Oprah interview? I can't stand Oprah, but that "interview" was on every platform then available.
Tom Cruise's first wife was screwed by Scientology church because they wanted to keep Tom happy and granted him a divorce even though she did nothing wrong and she was the person that recruited Tom for Scientology. The second wife lost her adopted children and Katie Holmes (wife #3) was sneaky when she served him with divorce papers because she didn't want to lose custody of her daughter like her predecessor.
Leah mentioned in a interview that she went to the Catholic Church upon leaving scientology. She was baptized as an infant, taken to church by her italian nonna, and was grateful that she had that anchor. Without it, she talked about how much more more difficult it would've been to leave and be wading in the middle of an ocean with no land in sight.
Deo gratias
Excellent book. Leah is doing incredible work to help get people out of that awful cult.
The fact that they (scientologists) have to give birth without uttering a sound is ridiculous. I would be ordering an epidural 😂😂😂
And naturally, a man wrote up That rule. 😂
I would disobey
On one of the SPTV channels not too long ago, someone was talking about the childbirth silent thing. It was explained that the “silence” is expected of everyone present except for the woman giving birth. So, they want a calm experience for the child to come into. The mother does what she needs to do and doesn’t have to be quiet.
From all the nonsense Scientology preaches, this is the only thing that makes any sense to me.
Not supporting this quasi religion but I read the mother is allowed to make as much noise as she wants. Everyone else must remains as quiet as possible. Having a baby born in to a world that’s not ‘chaotic’ is supposedly beneficial according to these nuts.
@@marypridham3823I agree.
I think Leah Remini is an incredibly brave woman given the alleged repercussions many have experienced just by leaving Scientology, let alone to publicly speak out against the “organisation”. I’m going to have to download her book now, there goes tomorrow! 😂
You will be enthralled!
Mike Rinder is also brilliant.
Especially considering that he's been dealing with throat cancer...
I find it really weird that Leah's only mistake was that she asked David Misgavage where's Shelly...
Aaron Smith Levin is also great to watch! Growing Up In Scientology on RUclips.
Is anyone else reminded of another wedding where A list guests were invited, who the couple didn't know!!!! Geeze guess all narcissistic act the same to garner friends and people of influence around them.
You are a gem for a voracious reader who can no longer devour books. Chronic health issues took my focus. I so appreciate you! Love from California. ❤❤❤
I think that Kidman and Holmes were in a whilwind romance of glitter and glamour. Holmes Dad was the wise one at that wedding. Both Cruise and Scientology are disturbing.
I've watched Leah and Mike many times on the tube, and they are totally fascinating and scary stories. I haven't watched a Tom Cruise movie for decades. I love how you do the little laughs between each ridiculous word read, 😂👌
Shauna, you make me want to read so many other book that I would otherwise not be interested in, thank you! I love your videos and wait anxiously for the next one to drop! You are a gem 💎 💕💎
I'm so glad! That makes it worthwhile 💕
Me too, my list is getting longer and longer....😊
I heard one reason Nichole married Tom was to have the directors stop hitting on her. I also read Nichole was hearing ppl listen to her phone calls. Can’t stand Tom cruise will not watch him. Keep going Leah, bring them down.
In the 80s I had a friend who worked at the law firm who prepared the pre nup for Tom and Nicole. He told me they had a business arrangement to marry and he would make her a huge star and she would be his beautiful wife who he would adopt with but never have to have a child with. Then she became a huge star and went on to have her own children with someone else. I would not be surprised if Katie who never had a hit after Dawson’s, was promised the same stardom.
Your 'friend who worked at the law firm' has a poor grasp of the concept of confidentiality.
I lived in LA for a number of years …. I have a very close friend who was born and raised Hermosa Beach CA ….. one day she told me she used to go to Scientology Church and was thinking of going back , she asked me if I’d go with her . Well I didn’t know much about it BUT I knew enough to say no thank you !!! My friend ended up not returning to it either 🙏🏼♥️
Just finished Leah’s book. It’s great! Love your show!!!❤
Good morning Shauna, hello everyone 👋
I’ve been watching and reading about Lord Mountbatten and his wife!!!!😳😳😳😳
What a story this is!
Also managed to get a copy of Revenge by Tom Bower for £1.99 and a lovely book by Andrew Morton on the (now Prince and Princess of wales ) William and Catherine’s history and wedding - only glanced through it but looks wonderful with lovely photographs and details
Also got a book about Will Smith ( too late I found it is a self help book🤣🤣)
Been nice to get my nose into another book
I just need courtiers by Valentine Low with the extra passages and I’ll be happy for a minute 😊
Wow you have a lot to keep you busy there Val! Enjoy 😊💗
O. M. G.!! The wedding sounds like a complete circus! And your analysis is hysterical - THANKS!!
This was a fascinating review. I definitely would never have even gotten near to people like this. I want to send a friend to join a cult, and I went to where they were living to see what was going on and immediately got into an argument with the cult leader due to some of the nonsense, he was spouting. I was immediately persona non grata, and that suited me just fine. I left and never went back. My two friends bunch for about two years until they escaped. They had to hide out for quite a while, because the cold was trying to track them down.
I'm so excited that you are reviewing Leah's book! It is well written and so fascinating that I couldn't put it down. Leah is such a warrior and I really respect how she has raised her daughter, shielding her from the craziness of Scientology. I don't know how she was able to achieve that. I agree with you, Nicole and Katie married Tom with their eyes wide open to the reality of Scientology, especially Katie. One would think that Nicole's union to Tom would have been a cautionary tale to any potential love interest, especially as it relates to having children within Scientology.
There's a measure of entitlement among many Hollywood stars. And a diminished sense for ordinary life and regular people. Consequently they don't react like one would expect.
Transactional relationships
Wanting actresses and actors one does not know at one's wedding, now of whom does that remind me?
Its very easy to be blinded by a cult doctrine and not see it until there is significant events that open your eyes. Interesting how Leah saw it at the wedding but still remained inside the organization and endured the "punishment" for stating the obvious truth. It's so dangerous and I do fear for people still involved. Truly heartbreaking that their lives are in disarray because of it.
It was a great book. I became a fan watching her specials on Scientology. Very brave
I love vintage books, Shauna. I buy them, read them, & donate to start the cycle again. I read Leah's book a few years ago & it held my interest. I went on to read several more in that cultish vein. Leah risked a lot by getting out, speaking out, & she continues to help others. Blessings! Jackie in upstate NY
I think both Nicole & Katie were both very young & naive. Luckily both had supportive parents & solid backgrounds that allowed free thinking to flourish. I remember Penelope Cruz saying that her relationship with Tom was intense love bombing & over the top dates. Hard to resist initially untill you feel so suffocated.
Yes I guess it must be a lot harder when you are that young and caught up in a grand romance!
I love Leah! Thanks for reviewing her book❤
Leah Remini is one of a kind!
She is! Loved her in this book 🤗💕
Hi Shauna, fascinating tit bits. I have a theory why Kidman and Holmes stuck around. I think because they were married to Tom, he would make sure doors and opportunities would be given to them. Holmes I consider to be a hack actress and would probably never make it. Kidman, whom I also don't think is great but certainly did better. Tom did kick-start Kidman's career off. I'm so glad Reminy was strong enough to get away. Love your channel, highly entertaining, and great for book reviews for further reading. Congratulations. You are the only channel I watch out for your next broadcast. 🎉❤❤
Thank you! That means a lot!
You don’t get anything for nothing
Fascinating, Shauna! Re: the baby, I immediately thought of Rosemary's Baby - weird, right? But that's what I thought❤
Great review I have a lot of respect for Ms Remini and the way she has stood up for her beliefs about scientology
Me too
After seeing your video, I read Leah Remini's book. Holy moly is all I can say! 🤯 I had no idea what was going on in Scientology! Andrew Morton's book is on it's way now. No idea how I ignored Scientology all this time.
It is hard to believe isn’t it! Just awful
@thevintageread If you are interested in cults and cult behavior Mike King wrote Deceived about his time investigating cults. He's former law enforcement. It's a good read.
@@thevintageread...RUclipsr ANDREW GOLD covers A LOT on Scientology, and those that have escaped it...Some great Testimonies...He's an amicable chap and has written his own books!🇦🇺😎
Yes he has featured me on his show several times! He has good taste 😂😂😂💗
How weird to marry into a cult & stay so long. It fascinates me how people can be involved with these things from a psychological perspective. I might have to read this book now.
All I can say is, King Charles, Prince and Princess of Wales keep away from Tom. He's been showing an interest in them too, since Top Gun screening in London, and the Coronation. Hear they've been getting that cake at Christmas, that only select people get.
Any community which values some individuals over others, is highly questionable. When it is done under the cover of religion, it is nauseating.
I was brought up to be critical of any exclusive groups for many reasons, mainly out of concideration to the feelings of those who are left on the outside. It is hard to think that I would have been accepting of the hierarchic structure of the CS even when I was young and not as experienced and cynical as I am these days.
Yes! Fascinating book!
@@thevintageread Sorry for editing my comment after your response. I was just correcting my grammar. 😄
I think both Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes were seduced by the vastness of a celebrity marriage. While Nicole was essentially kicked out of their marriage, Katie's maturity and maternal instinct drove her to take a courageous leap. But...yes...they both drank the Cruise Kool-Aid!
We've ALL been conditioned to immediately reject *anything* that gets labeled a "conspiracy theory."
If the ladies were controlled this way from the very beginning, into _not only_ *not* questioning aloud, for fear of being labeled a "conspiracy theorist," even in private,
but even then to the point of not questioning _in their own minds,_ to avoid calling *themselves* that hated/ridiculed term,
it would make sense that they "willingly" complied for as long as they did.
The phrase has been successfully weaponized to produce a form of gaslighting in _whatever_ situation it is used on people. A simple, shortcut way to control and induce censorship, even of one's own thoughts and feelings.
It seems logical to me that it would be a useful tool to control them, given all the "conspiracy theories"/questions about the cult.
Did you ever listen to her podcast with Mike Rinder about Scientology? Very good. There was also a very good series on the TV a couple years ago. Oh, and I enjoyed this segment very much.
Interesting! Now I really want to read the book. I like your perspective.
Hope you enjoy it!
Hello Shauna, just to let you know, I look forward to your video’s I enjoy them, keep them coming, I found you when all the commotion about Henry and Magen was at its high, take care 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
Oh thank you! That means a lot! 💕
@@thevintageread 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
I lived near Gold Base and when people escaped the campus , the security car and trucks would be in the hills and fields searching for them. The people at Gold Base were never in town just restricted to the campus. Also you never see any people on the grounds as there is underground tunnels between the buildings.
Everything about scientology fascinates me, perhaps because it's the unknown here in Greece. Thanks Shauna❤
Same here!
Thank you for reviewing this book.I love Leah Remini. I enjoy your reviews.
Makes me glad I never have and never will be rich enough to come to these peoples notice.
Oh they want everyone, work, money you don’t have to be rich they’re happy to embrace everyone
😂😂😂I think Ill pass. As a pensioner with athritus I wouldnt even make a good workhorse for them 😂@@lizroberts1569
They tried to get to my late mother in law.. she was a renowned doctor .. a psychiatrist, of all things!! We know what they think of mental health issues and care, but she had money and connections they wanted. She told me the story and said she just laughed!! She was a hell of a woman!
@@christineharris8413 Gosh what a different life you could have had if your Mum hadnt been so strong.
I loved this book. Currently reading David Mitchells Unruly, its bloody brilliant and gets you thinking in a very fun way.
I think I need to go visiting book shops again. Valentine Lowes book has me intrigued.
I think Tom Cruise was sweet and charming right up to them marrying him. Then he would show his true colours. I believe imho he made it hard for both women to get away with threats to families or themselves maybe. Glad both got away from him.
🇦🇺🐨❤️💐💐
Nothing like lingering in a good bookshop! 😉💕
I read Leah's book and it is sooooo good. Great read!.
I read another great book a few years ago; MOVIE STAR by Lizzie Pepper is loosley based fiction on the relationship between Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes told from Katie's perspective.
I could not put it down. It goes from their meeting, staged engagement photos, wedding and onto her escape from "Tom" and "Scientology".
I’ll have to check it out!
What an amazing saga! I will have to read Leah's book. I'm with you about never even thinking of drinking that kool-aid, but then again, unlike Nicole and Katie, you and I would never in a zillion years fall in love with the likes of Tom Cruise! So, there's where that lack of judgement comes from. Love can make one temporarily insane, or even stupid...
I’m reading Robert Galbraith latest book, ‘ The Running grave’. It’s all about a fictitious cult. It’s brilliant and makes me wonder how people get sucked into the Cult of Scientology.
I’ll check it out!
Isn’t Robert Galbraith the alternate nom de plume of J.K. Rowling?
Wow!! The whole story sounds like a horrible nightmare!! Very Interesting and eye opening!!
It’s never been a secret this is a weird cult, so of course Katie & Nicole knew. So much has been written about Tom since he first appeared, love bombed and maybe they weren’t secure women.
You SOLD ME! It's time I read Leah's and Andrew Morton's book. I knew a few bits and pieces of this but not that about Jennifer Lopez's father.
Tom Cruise's intensity and cult connection has always made me feel uncomfortable even causing me not to watch his movies.
Yes I still can not believe how easing Nicole married him at 23 and Katie married him at 28 were Tom Cruise (Scientology) brainwashed.
Thank God Katie's Attorney father and mother remained active Catholics. It's been said that's how her dad was able to negotiate a healthy divorce where Suri is safe from Tom and Scientology.
When Nicole left her two kids enmeshed with Tom and Scientology as such young children I was aghast knowing Nicole would be termed a suppressive and would never see her children again. How does a mother agree to remain silent as Nicole chose to do? Isn't that child abandonment especially when Nicole had fame and fortune to fight Tom for her parental rights.
Thank you Shauna. Verrrrry interesting.
thank you for another sneak peak of what sounds like another must read, tbh you could read me excerpts from the phone book and i would be enthralled 🥰🥰
I do enjoy Shaunas humor. It’s delightful.
That’s kind! Thanks 😊💗
@TomCruise-ve4xx never have 🤣
I appreciate your deep dives!!
Love your videos.
I just love Leah's book! Thanks for sharing - everyone should read ir.
I watched Leah and Mike's series about Scientology on A&E here in North America it was fascinating...you saw they were followed.
This was fascinating!!
Great review! I’m ordering my book tomorrow! I love Leah Remini I’ve watched her TV program, it’s eye opening! It’s very sad and scary, what Scientologist teach!!!
I know you’ll enjoy it! 😊
I believe both women used Tom to further their careers. They knew what they were doing, they knew where their careers were, they stayed to get the leg up. I have no sympathy for either of them. They got what they wanted. This is not to say I agree with the cult, so please (other contributors), don't brow beat me for my opinion. I really love your channel, thanks for sharing your insight with us. Hugs'n love from your upstate NY fan 🤗🥰❤️
That's really unfair. Both women were young, beautiful and talented and if all they were interested in was a 'leg up' they could have had their pick of influential men without the burden of having to study scientology. Nicole Kidman has had a stellar career since her divorce from Cruise and without any help from him or scientology. Katie Holmes has been working consistently in film, TV and theatre up to this year - again, without any help from Cruise or scientology.
I’m just settling down on my couch with the Trouble maker book. Ty for the great review that’s why I ordered it.👍🏼you always make my day with your videos .
Hope you enjoy it!
I never liked Cruise and I know people from 1960’s whose daughter wanted to join Scientology, or the church as it was known then, and she asked her father for 25 thousand to join and her family said no.
I would love ti read that book also, we don't have Kindle or Amazon here in South Africa. I did go to the library and nothing. I guess to expensive to send to South Africa. I am disappointed. Love your talks with us and love every bit of it. Love you lots❤❤❤❤❤❤
I think Nichole in particular, was the victim of "cohersive control" for a long time during her marriage. I remember the gossip that it was Tom who initated their divorce and that she was blindsided. Katie had a very smart father and HER 'escape' with Suri was very carefully orchestrated, whilst Nichole still barely has contact with either of their adopted children.
There's something VERY fishy about both marriages...
Wow! Sounds like a fun book. Thank you.
Interesting…..🌸
Glad you think so!
What an interesting story, Shauna! Speaking personally, you would not have seen me for dust once my suspicions had been aroused... 🤨
How ironic, that our predecessors fought and died for our freedom--even the hard-to-fathom freedom to choose subjugation and exploitation.
Very interesting. I had not heard this before.🇨🇦
Always enjoy your videos
I appreciate that
This was great book. 😊
I wonder, with both Nicole and Katie, if it wasn’t a career move to go along with Scientology and Tom’s game plan. Until…they realized there was nothing in it for them other than being Tom’s arm candy.
When you are young love is blind. You are swept away by the handsome prince that is going to take you away to a castle. Blame Disney.
I agree about Katie's dad
Scientology is so interesting, but kinda scary, so it's brave of you to out out a video! American religions are interesting 😂. Sister Wives (a Mormon polygamist family that imploded on TLC of 18 seasons had a box that rocked their family [the nacho incident 😔]. IMO Tom Cruise probably has the personality for that cult too😂😂).
What a fun change of pace! Ty Ms Shauna & Happy New Year 🎊
Nothing quite like life in a cult!
I had a narrow escape from this cult in the seventies!!
When there is a lot of money on the line, it might pay to take your time and "drink" the kool-aid until it gets unbearable 🤔
You’re so well-read and well-spoken. I look forward to your addressing people and issues of more substance.
Thank you so much!
Okay, so now I have to get Leah Remini's book!
I read Mike Rinder's book a few months ago...
It will not disappoint!
Thank you I’ve just got the book on audible 👍🥰
Wonderful!
Blind eyes are pretty common when money is involved.
Could you please tell us, given what we now know about Scientology (I refuse to call it a church), why Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, are seemingly such good friends of Tom Cruise? 😮
I’m sorry but I think Nicole had major ulterior motives. She wanted to be a big star by any means necessary. If she had rocked the boat she could have been easily black listed by Hollywood. I think Katie was in a position because of Suri. I think she and Nicole did love Tom and maybe both had a touch of that I can change him disease. Who knows what crazy stuff Tom said to them behind closed doors.
Yes true! We can never really know can we…😊
Nicole had children as well
I think star treatment ie being the recipient of special treatment is very seductive and hard to give up which is probably why both Katie and Nic tolerated it for so long. Being madly in love can also make someone very blind. Thank goodness Leah got out. I feel so sorry for all the poor people who didn't and who don't have anything this cult really needs except labour and blind obedience. Interesting that our Nic then fell for an addict ( albeit who seems a really nice guy- you think she would have run a mile after all the other nonsense she went through. Do like Keith though ( course he's an Aussie)😊
Poor Nicole Kidman lost her two adopted children in the divorce. Luckily, she is now a mother through surrogacy.
She carried one and had the 2nd by Surrogate...
Over 50 million prenup ? Wonder why Nicole and Katie wanted to marry Tom and go along with things ? ...such a puzzle 🤔
So glad Leah out of this toxic cult!
The new Netflix series, Beckham, has footage that hints at Cruise' effort to recruit Beckham and they seem to have had Will and Jada Smith engaged in the ruse! Ha. Beckham was never going to fall for it!
I haven’t seen it yet! I plan to this weekend 😊💗🤗
It's a great series and a fantastic story of determination, success, and raw talent.@@thevintageread
Yes ai would have ran much sooner. As aoon as they suggested any human being be “worshipped” and treated. Specially that would’ve been it for me. Thank goodness Nicole and Katie got out.
I doubt I would have participated at all
Nicole was apparently 22 when she got with Tom Cruise. i find that story interesting because.. they met on set apparently. I can understand that she would have been swept away in the moment but what many forget (and I can't find any reports now) she was engaged to Marcus Graham and he found out the relationship was over through the media if the news reports back then were correct). he was heart broken and a bit dirty on her for a while (understandably). Before her i felt sorry for tom because Minnie Driver had divorced him because he 'had a low sperm count' and she wanted to be a mother (so the headlines said). I would say however, that the real problems for Tom and Nicole is she didn't play ball with the church (as they expected - she comes over in interviews as pretty quiet and insipid). I'd say it appears he has been pretty vindictive to her through the divorce and Katie would have known this.. hence she played smarter with the divorce planning especially as they had suri.
@thevocalcrone Mimi Rogers was Tom Cruise’s first wife, not the delightful Minnie Driver. It was Mimi Rogers who introduced Tom to Scientology. Although I was unable to find it on internet searches today, I distinctly recall that Mimi said the reason that she and Tom did not have any children was because he had been rendered infertile as a result of a bout of measles. This was why, years later, there was a lot of speculation about Suri Cruise’s true paternity. Mimi said that one of the reasons for the breakdown of her marriage to Tom was that he was thinking of becoming a monk and he thought he needed to be celibate in order to “keep his instrument pure.”
However, Mike Rinder wrote in his book, _A Billion Years: My Escape From a Life in the Highest Ranks of Scientology_ that he was assigned the task of pressuring Mimi Rogers to agree to divorce Tom because David Miscavige wanted to keep Tom, his new BFF, happy. Miscavige knew that Tom had become besotted with his co-star in _Days of Thunder_ the lovely young Nicole Kidman. Mimi Rogers had grown somewhat cold on Scientology and Miscavige wanted to ensure that Tom would be drawn more deeply into Scientology, so he saw fit to grant Tom his heart’s desire, Nicole. Years later, when Nicole began to distance herself from Scientology, Mike Rinder wrote that he was again tasked by Miscavige with facilitating another divorce for Tom Cruise.
I think the wives saw $$$$$$$
You might be right…Or maybe they were in love? I couldn’t do it! 😂
Tom Cruise is the least interesting celebrity I can think of.
Cruise is a despicable person. There is something wrong about him. I really dislike the movies I have suffered through those images of him dancing with that broom are upsetting. I have never seen that trash fly boy nonsense. The thought of him representing/imitating a military hero is sickening.
Nicole Kidman was not famous at the time she met tom days of thunder - she could have well fell to the side if not for her relationship with tom - and i sure she had her eyes on other prizes besides tom
Oh,
Is that a copy of Jane Eyre?!
💖💖💖
Jesus!!!! Jolo dad !!!!!!
I think you would still be in the HOLE!!!!
