  • The Riese & Müller Load 75 Touring HS is a high-capacity electric cargo bike with full suspension, so your supplies or child passengers will be protected and comfortable, two drivetrain choices, optional second battery for long range. Available in two colors (black or white), integrated lights, reflective tires, and extra stick-on reflectors keep you visible and safe, durable plastic fenders, an alloy chainring guard, and puncture resistant tires keep you clean. Large hydraulic disc brakes 203mm back and 180mm front help you stop easily, even with a heavy load, the adjustable seat and stem (which can lay down flat for storage) provide a good fit for people of different heights, approachable mid-step frame feels stable when stopped, heavy-duty kickstand makes it easy to load. Heavier, longer, and pricier than most electric bikes, second battery interface must be chosen at time of purchase, Riese & Müller products are made to order and include a wait time of 1-3 months in North America, can't see the front wheel steering if you opt for the large child seat and back rest.

    I ordered my Load 75 (with 2 child seat and rain canopy)recently and I’m looking forward ! It’s an expensive bike obviously but I’m gonna sell my old little car ( way cheaper...)and no more gasoline to buy. I’m living in a small town in North of France with a lot a cobblestone streets. I was looking for a full suspension cargo bike with a “true” rain canopy. Compare to previous rain canopies this one seems to fit for tall kids. Merci beaucoup for reviewing those Riese and Muller cargo bikes guys ! Great job.

    If I lived in a city or somewhere with great bike infrastructure and indoor, secure bike parks then I would absolutely get one as a car replacement. I really want to try one out but I don’t see how I can. Maybe if there are rentals somewhere.
    I went to the convenience store the other day and I chose not to take a pannier bag and thought I could fit everything in my backpack. I ended up almost breaking the zip on the bag trying to get everything in. With a bike like these, you could just casually toss in a few bags of groceries without thinking about it. Makes such a huge difference.

    Very nice, and the price is really very reasonable if you compare it to any kind of automobile alternative. With all the capacity, the Load 75 competes with a small car - with no expense for gas or insurance. We have a Bullitt E8000 (which costs close to the same), and love this kind of transport. Quite envious of the R+M suspension!

    Just ordered a Vario75 2 days ago, 3-seat option with the canopy. Seemed to be one of the only bikes that fits 3 kids properly under the rain-hood. Love the leg-rest for the kids, putting the seat-bench on the floor of the box (e.g. Bullit, Douze 800) was not too appealing to my 3+1yr olds. Will have to wait and see how it pans out with larger sidewalk edges, since the ride height is reduced by 10cm. As the "foot-box" is supposedly made from steel, there might be the benefit of guarding the steering rod, though. Can't wait, delivery time is 8 weeks even here in Germany.
    Now that a really decent bike site finally reviewed it (and did a great job doing so btw), our decision to go with the most expensive one is a lot easier to take (altough a Douze would've come out pretty close). Ditching one of our cars for the bike, tho, so price was indeed not the main issue (this time) :D
    Only downside for us might be, that the tarpaulin will most likely not fit over the headrest of the third seat. Will have to talk to R&M about this in the future. Or does Chris know something about this?
    Cheers,
    Flo from Hamburg

    Lately the series seems to have turned into a Chris Nolte, travel companion / sponsor / interview partner series. Not that I mind - at all. Just appears to have switched to this as the default format. :)
    Also - dog footage, always a plus. And - the dog still has the AWD advantage over the bikes too.

      Perhaps what you’re seeing is partially me just having more fun... I’ve had a service fee in place for about a year now as a test and was working on how to communicate it clearly. Chris is my real life friend and I feel like I learn a lot from him when we talk. I’ve been asked not to interrupt so much (by other comments) so these go a bit longer. I’m also happy with the evolving format but it’s nice to get feedback :)

    What's bugging me a bit is that most bikes only support a person up to 250 pounds - sometimes only 200. I wish they would offer some models that support up to at least 300 pounds. With E-Bikes there are XXL Bikes but I haven't found cargobikes that have that option.
    I think overweight people who want to be more active should have the option to buy a bike that doesn't fall apart after some years.

    I really love theses updates I wish they will offer some like the electronic bell on my 2017 Packster 60 I heard that they will push an update for the CX motor better walks assist and some other tuning. Very good review but now I kind of want to replace mine with a Load 75. Can you tell us what is the system with the rear light automatic brake light?

    • @newschoolnerd
      @newschoolnerd 5 лет назад

      We’re trying to work on an aftermarket horn kit. The horn manufacturer is Spanninga. The brake lights on this bike are the Tektro Auriga E-Comp HD-E500 with brake light switches connected to a Supernova M99 taillight.

    Hey, one configuration they don’t seem to offer is the front (rear facing) seat, but without the two back (forward facing) seats. We have one child and a dog. I wonder if they’d offer that configuration on request?
    It looks so cool, and Chris’ family is sweet to join in. I live in the Bay Area, but want to buy from Chris since he’s been so active in promoting R&M. Might have to figure that out!

    • @newschoolnerd
      @newschoolnerd 5 лет назад +5

      Richard Bullwinkle hey! It’s not a configuration offered direct from R&M but it’s definitely possible by removing the back seat. I imagine your dealer could find a way to work with you on that.
      It’s really kind of you to express interest in working with Propel and me ;) although we do work with many remote customers we usually try to recommend local dealers if good options exist. You happen to have a great R&M dealer nearby in SF called the New Wheel. I’d recommend you reaching out to them. They should have their demo of this bike arriving soon if you wanted to test it out.
      I hope that’s helpful. Happy riding!

    Hey, love your review, is the steering and overall driving experience of the 75 much different to the 60? Would you recommend the vario HS? does it give a similar sportive ride? thank you so much for all your videos, those are amazing.

    • @newschoolnerd
      @newschoolnerd 5 лет назад +2

      I have spent a good amount of time on both and the 75 handles very similar, but you need to anticipate the turns a bit more on the 75 due to its length. Otherwise, it feels similarly sportive. Since my cargo carrying needs are pretty small at the moment I am mostly riding the 60, but if I had kids I would hands down ride the 75. The Touring will be a little more sporty, but the Vario is great to have a little lower maintenance and a smoother shifting experience.

    Is there any reason why they don't run a front dyno hub? To me it would make sense and leave the battery just for propulsion. Good review as usual.

    • @newschoolnerd
      @newschoolnerd 5 лет назад +1

      The lights draw very little power and in this case with a front thru-axle there aren't too many dynamo options. It would increase the price significantly. You could just spend that money on an extra battery and have even more range ;)

    • @markymark6958
      @markymark6958 5 лет назад +1

      Makes no sense. Dynamo hub is just another service possibility, building that hub on a small wheeel increase the price and the battery is exactly that. Basically you are taking energy already present and asking it to go throuhg a secondary energy system with plenty of loss n between and major price hike... Dynamo hub is best on human powered gravel adventure bike.
