    The "overclocking" menu could be useful for pushing in the opposite direction, tuning parameters for maximum longevity and stability so the CPU may live for 15 years and the MIPS per W can be at the max allowed by that, rather than the typical consumer defaults that will wear out hardware at end of warranty and sacrifice efficiency for performance.

    4:05 Roman, aka der8auer, talked about that too. First I misunderstood and thought he meant 2 DIMMs per channel, but it seems like its really just 2 slots per channel, no matter if populated or not. He had it confirmed twice by his Intel rep as well, so it must be right.
    Probably just another covering-their-ass move by Intel, wanting to advertise high speeds, but not actually support them totally.

    This is the first generation of hardware that has grabbed my attention in a decade. None of the advances in the separate pieces have been a deal maker, but they are finally offering some very useful whole package combinations of improvements.
    True ECC and AVX512 in consumer commodity boards and chips, add in the wide availibility of NVMe and improvements in GPGPU compute protocols, substantial improvment in core counts and power consumption. The only remaining piece is better onboard NICs, (At least one non-hobbled 802.3bz+an; prefferably with some processesing offloading to sweeten the deal.)

    It's probably about time to sunset that "only use two dimms" advice to be honest. I'm using 4x32gb all over the place and haven't had any issues whatsoever. I wouldn't try for super fast speeds, but, often having the extra capacity is well worth it being slightly slower. Not many things are *only* memory bound these days, they're usually capacity bound before that.

    • @abavariannormiepleb9470
      @abavariannormiepleb9470 25 дней назад +2

      I wouldn’t call any step a “secret”, but you have to be extremely careful when choosing every single component that is in contact with the liquid (many manufacturers lie about the materials they use) and clean and prepare everything thoroughly (even new parts) when first assembling the loop, you can’t cut any corners. If it helps imagine handling everything in a food-safe way avoiding any contamination.
      Some time ago Wendell mentioned having issues with watercooling solutions in that longterm time frame and I remembered that when seeing this video since I’m going to build a completely new loop for another system soon that is also intended to last as long as possible without needing regular maintenance.

      Ive always wanted to put a permenant flow and pressure gauge in the loop, but I know more fittings is more points of failure, but I like "knowing" it's working.
      Not being sure a loop will last and work is what keeps me away from watercooling. I don't want to deal with leaks, cleanings and bullshit - I just wanna use my computer. I'm happy to put in work upfront if it means I never have to touch or think about it again.

    [AUDIO] Can you please put a High Pass Filter (HPF) on your mics?
    For those of us wearing decent headphones, it makes us feel a bit nauseous when you dumped the BIG box on the desk!
    When micing speech, vocals, you always apply a HPF, that typically cuts everything below 100Hz. As there's no useful frequencies related to speech here. This also cuts out the sounds of bumping the mic stand, desk, stage noise etc. If you analyse any TV News, etc, audio, you'll see zero low frequencies.
    In the podcasting world, this is sadly a very, very common mistake... Even more annoying when you realise that the Shure mic they all use, the SM7B, actually has a switch to enable a HPF on the back of it! doh!
