Hi Stringer. You make an important point. Games like this are about making plays when it counts the most. It's those plays that determine the winner and loser.
I’ve been critical of James Franklin and of Drew Alar during the year. So this was a disappointing loss, but this was a hard fought game. Everyone did their best, coaches and players alike. This was the best playoff game this year. I congratulate the team and coaches. Let’s get ‘em next year!!
Drew allar with a costly mistake, nobody to throw to outside of Tyler Warren. The wide receivers coach should be left in Miami. Don’t even let him or anyone from that wide receivers room back on the team bus to the airport. What a pathetic performance from QB AND WR’s alike.
Turning Point of the game was when Penn State didn't recover that fumble at the end of the 1st Half. Up to that point, they were not just controlling the game, they were totally man-handling Notre Dame.
If I told you pregame Penn state rushes for 205 , gets 2 interceptions, 5 sacks 8 tackles for loss And 3 rushing touchdowns you would think no way they lose right ? This hurts bad
Yep. Old school route running was a head fake and a 90 degree cut. Maybe that doesn't work today, but neither do those "banana routes" where the defender is not fooled and there is no separation.
Progress in this program is always going to be more incremental than many of you are comfortable with. That will be the case no matter who the coach is. If you don't like that, there are other programs you can go support. I'll stick with this one - I've been a fan since Rip Engle was the coach.
Coach K has a Big12 philosophy and Franklin supports him because of his incessant demand for explosive plays. Without the WRs, it all fails eventually.
I'm a Michigan fan. You guys have got to get new staff. Those play callers are totally dumb. You ever see Michigan just do whatever it takes to win. Like the 32 straight runs at PSU. Penn state could have controlled this entire game by simply staying with the run game. That Penn state Oline was getting movement and would have worn down that ND defense throughout the game and took over the ,4th quarter. Every time psu ran they were getting good yards and that constant pounding would have worn them out and burned clock. Terrible
Defense had a good game, but even Abdul Carter threw a. punch at the ball instead of tackling the opponent for ND's last TD. Maybe they want to prioritize tackling?
I knew Franklin was on some BS when at the halftime interview, after running the ball effectively, he said they need to start passing the ball. For the love of God why?! You were running it down their throats in the first half. Don't change til they make adjustments to stop the run. Franklin is an excellent recruiter and brings in top talent but he is horrible at the XOs.
Allar saying "I was trying to dirt the ball" only makes it worse. How do you miss the ground?? As soon as he turned to his right I was saying "no, no, no, no, no! Any high school QB knows you never throw over the middle that late. Does anybody know why the DB flopped over backwards at the LOS giving ND a free 54 yard TD to tie the game with 4:38 left?
The ramifications of this game in the transfer portal and in recruiting will be felt for many years for both of these teams even with a loss in the national championship
Allar is like a golfer, if he's feeling it everything is in sync, mechanics are smooth and he's ultra sharp with the ball. But if he's not confident in something it all falls apart and unfortunately that seems to happen in big games. That missed td to Singleton set the tone for his night. I don't like putting blame on players but this loss is MOSTLY on his shoulders.
They didn't need receivers. They ran the ball well especially to the outside. They should have just kept doing that til they got ND out of man coverage.
The interception hurt. But the corner falling down giving ND and easy TD was painful. Penn state not getting in the TD from the 2 yard line in 3 plays hurt. A stupid personal foul in final 3 minutes hurt. This one hurt.
Didn't expect to reach the sem-finals, so kudos to the team. Even if we had beaten ND, don't think would have beaten Texas or OSU in the championship game. Having said that, this was a winnable game. Our 5* quarterback is average at best against good teams, and WRs are non-existent. Why didn't they run the ball at the end of the 4th quarter with about 40seconds left and 2 time-outs remaining ?
I actually look back to 4 minutes to go with the ball and Singleton flinched...I felt supremely confident in their ability to grind that 4 minutes out and win...not so much...if those 4 minutes were handled Allar wouldn't have been in that position.

PSU in complete control of the game for a chance to go the national championship against a team battling a ton of injuries and they couldn’t win it. - Drew Allar picked a bad time to have his worst game of the year. - The WR were horrible again - The defense gives up 24 second half points to a team that could only score 1 touchdown against Georgia and on that drive they started on the 13 yard line - The referees refused to call holding or offsides all game
Going into a rebuilding year and we haven't developed talented depth especially with Drew and at receiver. Liam is rarely targeted in the slot. Cephas, Tinsley.. anyone that comes in may flash. Then they just disappear.

That's not an excuse for Allar -- he had a very bad game as every Penn State fan will be sure to state repeatedly. Defense was a good, but ... two games in a row where the opponent gets a free "wide open receiver" TD? Is that choking? What is that? For the natty game, take O$U and lay 17-1.2.

Franklin needs a fresh start somewhere. Literally, it seems like every college football pundit in the US is calling him “Big Game” James. It’s bad for the university, bad for the Penn State brand, and bad for recruiting.
As i said above, Franklin was given the keys to the program and I predict he will be able to die here. I'd say aside from a run of 3-9 seasons, he will never be fired or not renewed. I have given up on being hopeful they actually care about being better than 10-2. Close losses to the best teams are good enough to the people who actually matter.
Yes. It does. But now that it's an issue of money, that will start to level things a bit. O$U will still get the best players, but they will have a tough time getting the best back-up players, too. Bye bye depth.

I Love Drew Allar. Some of the negative commentary has the maturity level and pettiness of a child or a petty person. Does anyone here know that Southern California in Los Angeles is burning down? Starvation and dismemberment of children in Gaza and Syria? Hundreds of thousands dying in Ukraine, and many more catastrophic injuries and greiving families? @sbrown4556 so what would call a 52% completion percentage.... mediocre. What would u call 1-16 in big games.. mediocre.. yes they are exciting to watch, but the narrative won't change. Psu cannot get over the hump and win big games... therfore mediocre
Anyone aware of our planet burning up, ir fascism encroaching?
Oh. Ok. That is what these games are about: to help us cope with enjoyable distraction games where we can feel like we are "winning" as a country or species.
Typical Penn St. QB and nuff said..
Actually, all of the other Penn State QBs had wide receivers on the field with them.
Drew Allar sucks and overrated.
Penn State pissed their pants in the second half and the Irish proves what a championship team does in the fourth quarter.
Championship team? Did they win their conference?
@@RSeaker Sorry its ND they don't need a Conference and never have how much of that 14 mil does Penn ST. get 1.2 mil for getting to the Semi's ND gets it all
Let's see your team score more than 10 against O$U.
@RSeaker
Did Penn St win a Conference?
So tired of James Franklin. 1-18 now vs top 10. We will never win a big game with him.
Yeah, averaging 11.33 wins per season the past three years is absolutely embarrassing. I long for... 7 win seasons. Please bring in a coach to do that.
@ you’re the problem. You are ok with good and unwilling to risk good to be great. Which is why psu will never ever be great. I’d rather be 9-3 and risk those 10/11 win seasons to get us over the hump. Mediocrity is for cowards.
James Franklin will never win a meaningful football game….
Except playoff games where winning enables you to advance. And except Rose Bowls. And Big Ten Championship games against an 11th ranked team. And Michigan at home, twice. And against 10-win teams.
@@sbrown4556they played Boise state and SMU dude. Teams missed the playoffs that are better than those two teams. And none of those games you mentioned amount to anything. 1 big ten championship then missed the playoff bc you tanked two games early in the season. A rose bowl that meant nothing against an Utah team who didn’t have their qb. Come on you gotta be able to recognize a pattern here….
@@agduke3354 if they had lost either of those games, you'd be adding it to the "big game" losses. So your argument is that playoff games aren't big games? Gotcha
@@sbrown4556playoff games against bad teams aren’t big wins man. Come on. You are putting lipstick on a pig. Be happy with the participation trophies I guess. I don’t know what to tell you. He’s never going to beat a team that’s good. He just isn’t. It’s been 11 years I don’t know what else to tell you if you can’t see that.

Franklin couldn’t have been granted a more favorable path to the title. He breezed by his first two College Football Playoff opponents, SMU and Boise State. But when it came time to face a truly legitimate contender, with a storied history and the potential to compete for a championship, Franklin’s group couldn’t get it done.
