Add filling (pork cube, mushroom, jicama cube). Add boiled bean sprout, basil and mint. Garnish with fried shallot. Serve with cha lua (boiled minced pork), fried bean cake, and sweet and sour fish sauce (water bug essence add on is optional)

BÁNH CUỐN... I saw that and started drooling. I used to live in Ottawa, Ontario and my mom worked with this amazing Vietnamese family. The father of the family used to make Banh Cuon for the family to take to work. Mr. Phat always sent extra for my mom to bring home and share with me. Such amazing, humble, wonderful people. I have a great love and respect for the kindness I have been shown from ALL Vietnamese people.

In my state waterbug is almost extinct now, or you can say it's extinct. It used to be found often in the rice fields during rainy season. We used to mash them with chilli and fermented fish and served as a side dish. It's one of our most loved side dish. I miss them.😣💔

Sonny, the US has been using Cochineal red food coloring for many years, Cochineal are bugs/parasites. Not just the US though, here in Oz, the UK and probably most of Europe. Absolutely love your channel by the way. Respect from Melbourne Oz.

We eat that first water bug too. We grilled, crushed into a coarse powder and then used as a garnish in some curries.

In northeast Thailand we mash water bugs with herbs and spices to make sauce or paste then eat it with rice and boiled vegetables. It’s called น้ำพริกแมงดา “Nam Prik Mangda“. Mangda meaning water bugs. I don’t like it but my grandma loves it.
I chose to watch this during my dinner... That might say a lot about me.
Theres a place in China, where they make meatball out of insects...
They process 3 types of insect to make the batter...
Then season and spiced, then shaped and cooked...
Packed and store in freezer...
When you cook it by steam/boil in water/ or fry in oil or bake in oven...
You wont even taste any different from other chinese meat balls...
Its like Squid balls, but with a little texture of Beef balls...
And a scent of Fish balls...
With a flavor of Pork...
But they make it, without any other protein...

At that time, we didnt know it was made from insects, but we sure do love the Taste, Texture, Aroma, and Flavor...

My brother and I love this show and of course got curious about eating bugs as well...went to an Asian grocery and saw frozen silkworms, we prepared it boiled in rice wine and soy sauce then crispy fried. It looked and smelled so appetizing so of course we tried it. Worse experience in my life: literally watched my brother’s face swell up from extreme food allergy. So, BUGS...NEVER AGAIN
