I've had a VW GTI for the past few years and the whole hot-hatch concept is so incredibly functional. 55 cubic feet in that vehicle, very close to SUV territory. If this AMG is anywhere close to that then you're paying for 1) performance 2) Mercedes engineering and 3) versatile layout and cargo area. Likely worth the money. And by not seeing so many around you on the road also has its own benefits.
Only sounds better because AMG now use speakers for the interior sound. Exterior sound is 30% quieter than last model due to EU regs. So the sound inside has been made louder but its augmented sound.
phantom1812 So you’re saying is, these EU regulations on exhaust noise are to minimise noise pollution which will therefore reduce the amount of noise complaints from local residents?
@@joshbacon8241 Pretty much, yes. You also have the effect of the new GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filter) which seems to be ruining the sound of all new cars. No engineering around it. Just check out the sound of the new Porsche 718 GT4 to see an example of the sound being 'muffled' against the 981 version.
@@effa114 Once you've had a car for a few years, even if it's fast, you'll want more. A big part of car ownership for me is making it my own either through mechanical or cosmetic modifications.
@@rashadkee Fair enough, to me speed is fun but doesn't last, I'm more interested in handling engagement and a car that can feel fun even at slow speeds, but each to their own.
Great review! No frills and to the point. Comparing it to the dynamic abilities of the type-r .... interesting. The way I see it, no huge difference. Disregarding of course the exterior appearance..... The extra price tag....for the 4 wheel drive, the interior quality and materials, for the infotainment and the badge. Does it deserve it? Not exactly the same target group....
£60K, that’s potentially what you could spend, but, if the extra options don’t dramatically improve the performance, why are there additional options?👀👀
Haven’t we been calling these ‘hyper hatches’ for a few years now? Mega hatch doesn’t quite sound the same :) Silly price tag - only youtubers will have them
A review that actually refers to the real world and comes down to price. A great thumbs up for the review and a big thumbs down for Mercedes putting out a £50k hot hatch.
Unfortunately, the looks are very ordinary, especially in profile......a hint of earlier marks of Astra dare I say?. Certainly needs the, probably very expensive, body kit. And still lacks the character of a straight 6 or a 5 pot RS. It's not about pure numbers!
"the current benchmark is the Civic Type R" - Is that why it's 5 seconds per lap slower than the Megane RS Trophy on Spa-Francorchamps? There's only one FWD hot hatch to beat, and it's the Megane Trophy R.
I bet they have used same bolts and nuts that they've used on other engines... It looks very tame but I quite like the Q-car look BMW M2 has the same power and doesn't 'require' AWD??
Fantastic review with a great presenter. I thought the information was helpful and that the criticism of the car's features and price to be just. I can't stand reviewers being needlessly loud and stupid. You want pointless shouting and screaming? Go and watch something American.
Great car but expensive and as much as I can admire the engineering, I dislike that Mercedes have very "tinselly" dashboards and interiors (and often odd controls) - too much bling. Some dodgy crossed-arms steering there too!

What’s the intended purpose of these EU exhaust noise regulations?
@@joshbacon8241 Same reason your hoover is no longer as powerful...arbitrary rules on the noise things make.

You guys couldn't gave taken the hype and fun out of the car anymore in this review

In short, if you want a small hatchback that can drift & humble a supercar at the same time, buy the A 45 s.
Exactly Mikey, I have the same thought as well. Awesome, stunning design car..yeah man, what a car👍👍👍👍get it while you can 🤣
Civic Type R ???? you for real mate. If you matched it with RS3 or RS but Civic really....
Thanks for a great review.
Do you know when the GLA 45s will be launched???
Thanks

Where so they get these horse power figures from? 409, 415 and 421 bhp. Which one is it?
"these guys knows what they are doing" - talking about Mercedes.. Oh really? The last century confirmed already my friend
Sorry but this grey, is it metallic shine or matte type of color
I have never ever imagined in my life that a just a engine (even with twin turbo) can do 415 hp.
Peace and Justice you mean just a 2.0 litre engine?
Mitsubishi Evo tuned...
£60K, that’s potentially what you could spend, but, if the extra options don’t dramatically improve the performance, why are there additional options?👀👀
Aero kit to make it look sportier, probably an amg exhaust option too
Nice, although the civic and a45s have different potential buyers...

It’s not the most powerful 4 cylinder ever made, Mitsubishi brought out the evo fq 440 years ago which had 440hp from a 2 litre 4 cylinder
440 years ago?? wow, who knew
That's a specialty tuned car tho. It's not a mass produced car for sale.
Dare I ask , it this state of tune what kind of mpg you would get ..
39mpg on the motorway
India is waiting for this masterpiece
They replaced the engine because of the “needed” performance or because the old one likes to break itself down quite often? Mmh....
Agree with excellent reviewer, great engineering but. CTR, anytime. Me too 👍🏼
Sounds alot better than the old one???
Nay
by the way, does this engine also come from the dacia duster? :))

You think this will outhandle a Type R??
@@thomasferrarojr.9772 after a year later, Its already proven :)
The 45s is in a different class to the type r cheers Steve
Looks and interior quality but I doubt it will outhandle it.
I’m sure Mitsubishi Evo’s made 2.0 4cyl engines with over 400bhp years ago...

Endless brake pads kw v5 and ready to go 😅

The last time I checked, it was 421 bhp, not 415 bhp🤔
421 PS... 415 BHP
@@liammoore5192 Ohh! I see. Thanks man 👍🏼
All that power is at expense of more boost and less useful life. Ok, see what will happen after warranty
Worthless after the maintenance plan is up
I can't be the only one who would rather have a manual and light fwd for more fun in the bends.
Honestly a bit boring review. Sure checks the basic list of what to say in a review. but where is the creative, new and fun part of the review
The new C8 will probably be cheaper then this 😂
Rather get a used GTR and a used Polo with the change.
Come on... nowadays you can get over 480hp on a 2.0 modern turbo engine with just a bigger turbo and sport exhaust...
Did this guy actually compare a Civic Type R to an A45 AMG? Lol
A Tesla Model 3 Performance is a little over £49k, with Autopilot (not FSD)...£50k for a 4 cyl A Class is too much.
Would rather get a Focus ST and a used RS, would be way cheaper

This obsession of horsepower has to stop. Just make a 2L naturally aspirated hot hatch.
