- Hi everyone, in this video I show you how to fix a damaged or corrupt SD card in Windows 10 using the command line prompt. Maybe your getting the response WINDOWS CAN'T FORMAT DISK then this video should help.

The chkdsk /f command is all I needed after my phone suddenly asked me to reformat my SD card, but put it in my laptop, ran "chkdsk /f" and everything was instantly fixed!
If I do that process my files and data is not erase in my sd card? It will back again to normal.?
Confirmed, this method allowed me to remove Windows 10 IoT from my 32GB SD card and then install Android 7.0 on it. Thanks again.

No usable free extent could be found. It may be that there is insufficient
free space to create a partition at the specified size and offset. Specify
different size and offset values or don't specify either to create the
maximum sized partition. It may be that the disk is partitioned using the MBR disk
partitioning format and the disk contains either 4 primary partitions, (no
more partitions may be created), or 3 primary partitions and one extended
partition, (only logical drives may be created).
This brought a corrupt microSD card back to life! Thank you!

I came back here to thank you very much for sharing this information. I went to all sorts of sites and tried many things to fix three 32G SD cards and none of them worked. I have been trying to download and flash an operating system for a little computer and ruined three cards in the attempt.
This worked like a harm and they are back to full functioning. I was fortunate in that there was no data on them taht I wanted to recover, I just wanted to repair them. Agan, thanks very much. I'm looking forward to more videos from you in the future.
So you don't have to watch it multiple times
Insert card
open Disk Management
get drive letter and disk #
Open CMD window as Admin
> chkdsk /f x:
> diskpart
> select disk #
> clean
> create partition primary
> format fs-fat32 label=myLabel
> exit
> exit
I was fooling around with all sorts of SD extraction tools for my damaged SD, while your tip for using CHKDSK just made it work agian, thanks!
Thank you it's been a while since I have used the command prompt I recovered over 5000 songs which I thought were gone for good amongst other things.
It's showing Diskpart has encountered an error: Access is denied.See the System Event Log for more information.

Was your SD card invisible?
When i created a primary partition, I've got an error message:
"Virtual Disk Service error:
The operation timed out.
DiskPart has referenced an object which is not up-to-date.
Refresh the object by using the RESCAN command.
If the problem persists exit DiskPart, then restart DiskPart or restart the
computer."
What will be the possible solutions for that?

Thanks alot! I used disk clean to clean my 64GB SD card. Then it became unallocated. I then inserted the unallocated card into my Sony a6500 and formatted it inside of the camera. Now it works again!

sd card has "permanent" files, whenever i delete the files and reinsert the sd card the deleted files appear once again

Nice video. I only wish it worked for me. My sd card must be corrupted in a bad way. Whenever inserting the card into my machine or any device, it always freezes that device upon trying to access the drive. :(

crockett rocket I have the same problem with and SD card I’ve only used in my Nintendo Switch, so it can’t be a virus of any kind.
It happened from one day to another and I’m able to access all the data inside the card (videos, images, save data) and even back it up but I can’t format it or delete the files manually because every time I do so they magically appear again 🙃

Me too. I had very important shit on there that I was actually going to backup later. I was taking a few final pictures when my phone just abruptly decided to corrupt my microSD card. I was literally about to take it out of the phone to back everything up from it onto my laptop when my phone started acting funny, so I restarted it, then it showed I had no SD card. This happened apparently for no good reason and there's nothing I can do about it either. I've tried everything I can think of, but apparently everything is gone and there's nothing I can do about it. Needless to say, I don't think I'm going to bother putting anything on this or any other card ever again, if it can just be corrupted by my phone whenever it feels like it. I'm not going to waste my time caring.

i haven't managed to fix my corrupt SD card, but I've managed to save all the files from there. Created an image file (with USB image tool for Windows), sent it to restore.media online service, and got my archive with all my videos in return. This is the best result I could achive so far (other tools didn't work at all).
Corruption was found while examining the volume bitmap.
An error occurred while recovering lost files.

Thank you so much!! I was using a 128g mini SD card on a Motorola Xoom tablet and took it out to transfer all the music (over 7,000) songs and it was corrupted. I tried to open the card on a windows system and still could not open it. All my computers indicated it was a corrupt card and wanted me to format. If I did that I likely would have lost all my songs and photos. Using your guidance I was able to get all my music files and photos back !!

Thx! Worked for me. My surveillance camera somehow corrupted a 4gb micro SD card. None of the format options worked whether through the camera software or on my notebook computer. One of the error messages I got using the Windows format option was that it could not format a RAW disk. Seems like my camera is the culprit since it's done that to 2 micro SD cards now, the 4gb and a recently purchased 32gb. I was able to read & format the 32 normally on the notebook using standard format option. Not so with the 4gb, but your command prompt method did the trick.

Yes, but the switch is on unlocked. Also when I take it out it is still on unlocked.

It did not show how to fix a corrupt SD card. It ended up saying just wipe the SD clean.

That is the problem. This method works with good sdcards, not with cards with problems

Type list volume and then select volume(And what number it s the one you want to format) and then do format fs=ntfs quick

Had a 16gb micro sd, but it was only showing 11mb available. Following this video I found out that the 11mb somehow became the primary partition, with the remaining unassigned.
Was able to fix it and now it's working great! Thanks for the vid!

Sometime SD card is fine but the PC cannot detect it. Try using Disk Management to check whether your card is unallocated or not. If unallocated, you can make a new volume. Meaning that your SD card was not corrupted or dead.

Physical damage of the SD card is nearly impossible to fix but if we have a logical issue we can use some utility like Stellar Data Recovery Premium for Windows can recover data from corrupt storage drive.

Hi, click My PC then Right click the drive and choose Format. when the Format tab opens choose Restore device defaults.
If this doesn't work try restarting your PC in safe mode and then Format. Hope this helps

i got really messed up sdcard, i was able to copy all files to safe from it, then i did method 2 but couldnt do partition because it says 0 bytes free space, only my android device can read it.... its 128gb card and mostly i have music in there, i can play ones in it but i cant put anything new to it...
