    I've had a pair of the Duckfeet Sjaelland boots for nearly a year and they are great. I've had no issues with the sole or any of the upper. Super thick leather and no "high pressure point at the heel." The company will sell you a new sole for them too.

    I've had a paid of the Fåborgs for 11 years now. Same pair. I have had them re-soled with ease. The leather is great, especially if you maintain it. As they break in more and more, they become more delightful to wear. I was hesitant when I first bought these, but I was tired of the poor quality of DMs and others, so decided to take a leap. Duckfeet was definitely the right choice, IMO for everything but a snow/ice boot.

    The fact that the company sells sized replacement soles is a pretty big deal I think. Letting customers resole their own boots at home for a fair price is a statement for the quality of the uppers. In scandinavia it's not uncommon for people to own ice cleats, so that's probably the fix for the less than stellar grip of the crepe sole.

    • @luke14946
      @luke14946 2 года назад +13

      If you read the company's recommendations, they recommend buying the replacement sole 1 size bigger, (43 sole for a 42 shoe,
      46 sole, for a 45 shoe etcetera)
      To get a better finish by trimming the excess off, rather than struggling to line-up the sole and shoe "perfectly",
      Also they don't explicitly tell you to resole them yourself, they say buy replacement soles, then bring them to a cobbler to put on the shoes.
      Though some people may like to try doing it themselves, diy resoling.
      Just a thought, but it Would be kinda cool if a company produced shoes/boots with replaceable screw-on soles and heels that people could change themselves with a hex-key or screwdriver, possibly without glue, and holes would be pre-threaded, possibly even be modular, switching between different patterned interchangeable rubber soles either smooth or lugged, etc.
      some possible pros/cons with that, such as the need for the manufacturer to keep producing the special soles for as long as the shoes are available. Otherwise it would defeat the purpose.

  • @BL-yj2wp
    @BL-yj2wp 2 года назад +139

    The company actually sells cut to size replacement soles so you can just resole the boots yourself. If no sanding is required that is simple enough to do with just a heat gun and rubber cement. Not a bad idea.

    • @luke14946
      @luke14946 2 года назад +11

      Duckfeet actually recommends buying their replacement soles one size bigger, to get a better finish, by trimming the excess. (e.g buy size 43 soles, for resoling size 42 shoes),
      It's often better to have a sole slightly bigger, and skillfully trim the excess,
      Than having to get the shoe and sole lined up "perfectly" if they're the "same size"

    I can't believe you found my beloved Danish Duckfeet. Watch all your videos, but this is the first boot/shoe I actually own. I love these boots. The leather can take a while to break in. Especially the tan leather (the black didn't need any breaking in. Don't know why). The worst part about the sole is if you step on oil or gasoline, then it kind of melts a bit and get sticky. But you can help that a but with babypowder/talcum. I never thought about a shank before I found your videos, but I gave a pair that is very worn and I also had some cheep knockoffs once. The sole on the cheep ones cracked all the way through right by the heel. These are still whole (but sticky). I don't feel like they are "floppy" either.

    I have two pairs of these. I have the unlined moc-toe version that I bought about ten years ago, and I have a wool lined version that is about two years old. The soles last a surprisingly long time. I have resoled my original pair once, and they are holding up incredibly well considering how frequently I wear them. What stands out to me is the very tight construction. My wife had a Clark's desert boot, and the stitching on the Duckfeet Boots is much tighter and stronger than on the Clarks. I have found these boots to be incredibly comfortable, definitely no pressure point at the heel drop off. Resoling was expensive because I paid like $45 for the sole from Duckfeet (plus shipping), and then another $70 to the cobbler. It was worth it because the boots are broken in perfectly.

    Great review - I was hoping Duckfeet would show up on your channel - they deserve recognition! I already have the Sjaelland model and just ordered and received the Odenses. I am totally impressed and happy with both. For anyone who is turned off by the stiffness of a new pair, you can trust that the boots will soften after a couple weeks of wearing. I ordered the new soles for my Sjaellands and took them to a local shoe repair place - 20 Euro! So about 55 Euro including the cost of the new soles. Can’t beat that. RoseAnvil, thank you for this review and all your work and dedication to being honest about shoe quality - there are so many reviews out there that are sponsored by the shoe companies and it is hard to tell who is being honest. You are:-)

My GF wanted to come to work on accession (I’m a carpenter) & I bought her a pair of blunnies and raves about how good they were. Well, the lasted only 6 months before falling apart. WHAT RUBBISH!!!

    I’ve had the Odense for about 6 months due to this video and I love them. Warmest boots I’ve ever owned and very water resistant, I live in Buffalo so I really put them to the test with snow. When you first get them they’re super stiff and you think it will take them forever to break in but my experience they were much faster to break in than my Red Wing Iron Rangers. I would recommend getting a second pair of laces when you buy them because the dye from the leather (mine are green) will stain the laces and can get on socks and stuff on the first few wears. Overall very happy with my purchase, thanks for the recommendation!

If you want your boots resoled you can purchase the service and the crepe outsoles on the sight and they will send you a shipping label and you send in your boots to them to get them resoled. I have multiple pair of duckfeet since learning of them. I’ve got 2 pair of Faborg, one Odense, 2 pair of Arhus and the Silkeborg. The faborg and Odense leather needs a bit more work to break in (harder leather compared to the pebble leather in the Arhus and Silkeborg). But once broken in you’ll forget to take them off they’re so comfortable.

    I have a pair of these and 2 pair of Duckfeet's Fyn shoes. I love them. The wide toe box and good leather is what originally drew me to this company. I have since had my first pair of Fyns resoled after 3-4 years of wear. The leather and stitching are still in great condition. The only con that I have found is the lack of any real arch support but this is easily rectified with a pair of Dr. Scholl's custom fit orthotic inserts which I use on the advice of an orthopedic surgeon given my flat feet.

    Thanks for another great video; I just bought the unlined boots, and own a pair of the shoes, and I love them both. I’m not totally sure about he crepe soles, but thought I’d get them replaced with no-heel lugged replacement vibram soles next. I’ve had a lot of problems with flat feet, and narrow-toed shoes were making my toes overlap each other, and this design has let my feet spread and strengthen. I think this style of shoe is made to be sort of minimal and flexible, like barefoot shoes.

    I'm an ancient Gen Xer. Those remind me of a shoe fad of the 70s - the Earth Shoe. They had a similar super wide toe area. They had a heel that was lower than the front sole. It was supposedly "healthier" to walk that way.😄

    • @user-zh4vo1kw1z
      @user-zh4vo1kw1z 2 года назад +17

      It's healthier to stand that way, it's way worse to walk that way.
      It's why better brands like five-fingers have a good portion of their site dedicated to learning to walk properly on their shoes. Or rather, un-learning the heel-first stomping type of moving.
      They even explain why it may not be the "shoe" for you. Bad arches, weak calves, even the positioning of the toes and much more: better of improving those if possible first.
      Any brand or store that goes 'you sure? We may not be the right choice' has my trust.

It's like the opposite of what heeled shoes do. Kinda odd looking. I'm a minimalist myself (I own vibram toe shoes) and I would not where those shoes. But If I'm going to be on my feet long hours, I use an arch support insert (Birkenstock's Birko Balance Insole.) Not because of any pressure point at the heel - there isn't any - but for my poor arches. But I do think that would also a viable solution for anyone whose shank breaks down.

The entire brand was based on just two models of shoes and they never really expanded their sortiment that much. The company is still privately owned.
    Fun facts: the names of the diff. models are inspired by Danish islands and cities. Ie. Odense is the name of the largest city on the island of Fyn which is also the name of one of their models, I believe. H.C. Andersen the famous story teller was born in Odense. gotta be careful with the crepe sole. don't wear them if you're going to the petrol/gas station, I melted the soles of my duckfeet sandals simply by stepping briefly in some petrol residue. they never felt quite right after that - they started to stick to the pavement on hot days (not so relevant for these boots of course) for one thing - and eventually I had to get them resoled with a tougher rubber and now wear a cushioning insole with them.
    I will say I do like their foot shape, I have a narrow heel and wide toes so usually struggle a bit to get shoes that fit my whole foot. duckfeet do!

    I'm a US size 8. If your 2nd toe is slightly longer than the first, duckfeet boots don't fit well and they are aware of it as most have returned their boots. I tried 39 and 40 and the toes were scrunched. Wish they would fix this issue as so many have the issue.

    Thanks for doing a review on these! I just bought a pair of the unlined boot about a month ago and I’m loving them. I’m horseshoer and I was looking for something comfortable yet durable for work and these are perfect. I have gotten deep into the barefoot shoe movement in everything except for my riding boots (obviously) so when I got these I cut the heels off of them to make them zero-drop. That wouldn’t have been possible if they had a stiff steel shank so I’m glad they don’t have one. For those that were wondering about the pressure point in the heel- I used them for about a week before cutting the heels off and I found them comfortable but they’re much nicer now that they’re zero-drop. I’m never going back to boots with narrow toe boxes though, no matter how “good quality “ they are.

      Thank you! My only hesitation has been that I would immediately need to replace the sole with a barefoot sole, but if they can be cut down that would be a good solution.

      @@thetshirtblog On straight up ice they don't have great traction. If it's a mix of snow and ice, they are fine. I keep mine pretty clean and wipe them down after wearing so the de-icer hasn't been an issue. These are not really meant for hiking and trails so keep that in mind. I use icebugs and wool socks for that kind of activity. General daily wear the Duckfeet are my go-to.

    Since you're doing winter boots you should really do a boot with the vibram arctic grip like some of the kodiak boots have. One thing that's pretty common with winter boots is that they are very warm with very poor traction on ice.

    • @popuppete
      @popuppete 2 года назад

      Have you seen those boots with retractable studs for the ice? I saw a pair of Anfibio’s with them and thought they were neat. I guess a few other brands use the same sole.
      The owner just got them and hadn’t tested them on ice yet so I can’t comment on effectiveness

    Allen Edmonds uses compressed paper shanks for some of their dress shoes and they are pretty comfortable and reliable. If the paper is hard enough, they are perfectly fine. Some high end makers are using very flexible veg tan leather shanks and they are completely fine.
    For low heeled normal streetwear, you don't need a monster of a shank.

    I agree with other viewers that seeing other casual/hiking brands from Europe like Ecco and Lowa cut open would be fun to see. The Ecco track for instance comes to mind.
