Great videos mate, thanks for sharing! A few films I can think of: Tarkovsky's Mirror/Stalker Double life of Veronique Chunking Express Katalin Varga Landscape in the Mist Sonatine
This was so awesome to watch. Didn’t skip a single second. I know which movies will keep me trapped in my room over the weekend now! Another movie that one of my buddies recommend to me that I thought was shot really well was Bad Times at the El Royale
Shawshank Redemption, Jurassic Park, Home Alone, The Truman Show, Big Fish, LOTR, Children of Men, No Country for Old Men, Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Revenant, 1917 and my list goes oin and on but that is some of my favorite movies.
These are amazing! I definitely have to check some of them out!! A few movies I’d say inspire me with their cinematography are Knives Out, JoJo Rabbit, Drive, Marriage Story and any movie by Wes Anderson.
Great list... Thanks. Here are a couple of notworthy choices imo: - Terrence Malik's movies have some nice handheld and wide angle cinematography... In particular Song to Song (2017) and Tree of Life (2011). Immersive in the sense that it puts you inside the drama - Blade Runner (1982)... Lots of heavily stylised mood and atmosphere - The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)... Stunning movie, shot by Roger Deakins. Some stylised visuals for dramatic scenes, but then naturalistic lighting for most of the rest of the movie, but somehow seamless transitions between the two - The Good Shepard (2006)... Lots of moody/darker compositions fitting with the spy theme. Silhouettes, chiaroscuro, half hidden faces/eyes, but done in a way that draws you inside to the movie - There Will Be Blood (2007)... Excellent lighting and compositions, as well as how the shots move from one compositions to another as they did with classic movies instead of being wide, over the shoulder and then close ups... Very cinematic and helps with immersion. I'll post a separate list of older movies later... Some great cinematography in the black and white days...
Thank you !! Ah I love this list and have seen all of them many times for some, I was actually so close to put Jesse James on this video. Maybe next time :). Keen to see the list !!
I love that you show these inspirations. Of course, it's very personal what one feels that really connect to oneself, It's on a higher awareness level but when a film manages to do that well for me that's what I hope a film shall do and Arrival does that. Thanks for the tip on McBeth!
LOTR: FOTR absolutely changed my life as a 12 year old girl when it first came out. Unreal. made me want to work in film. Thank you for seeing it as I do!
Great picks man! Emmanuel Lubezki and Roger Deakins are two of my favorite cinematographers atm. But there are definitely so much more talented DOPs out there. Gonna look up the one from Macbeth and The King too. Didn't realise they were shot by the same person.
Love your breakdown on these films... Moonlight, Arrival and The Revenant are some of my favorite films and for many of the same reasons you highlighted. Great video, thank you for sharing.
Thanks for your recommendations. I love the Revenant. Bladerunner 2049 and original are also stunning. Two of my other favories are "The Passion of the Christ" and "Goonies" Yes, I said Goonies! Ha ha. Something about the look and feel is so comforting. Blessings.
Thanks for watching !! Man The Goonies is one of my favourite movies haha. Can’t beat the atmosphere with the music, the vintage bikes and the location. Classic !!
Nice films! My pick would be: Eternity and a Day by Theo Angelopoulos, Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky, The Double Life of Veronique by Krzysztof Kieślowski, Wings of Desire by Wim Wenders, Das Boot by Wolfgang Petersen and Aberdeen by Hans Petter Moland
I bought the Blu-ray of Macbeth solely based on this video. After movies like EX Machina, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049 or even Prometheus I gained such an appreciation for Cinematography, that sometimes, when I watch a movie the second time or more, I ignore the plot and just look at and analyze the colors, lighting, contrasts, camera angles or color palette.
Of Two Lands I bet :)) I got one for you , in the same style and feel . Russian film “Leto” runner up for 2018 Cannes Palm Dor . Just watched it 3 times in a row lol hidden gem in the US market
This is so beautifully inspiring!! 😍😍 Would you be able to send over some BMPCC6K + Meike 35mm footage so that I could test and practise on it? That would be greatly appreciated.👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for watching !! Haha sorry I actually can't since it is a partnership, I tend not to share footage due to past experiences. I am sure I can trust you but hope you understand. Cheers, Flo
@@OfTwoLands Hey Flo, no problems at all, I completely understand. I actually went, days ago, on your FilmSupply page as I wanted to buy some Meike 35mm footage but didn't find it hence I asked here. I'm in love with that image quality and wanted to try a sample footage before buying the lens. Keep up the amazing work of yours. You are my role model and I'm just starting out :)
@@Frankdarnese The Footage will be there very shortly. Thank you for understanding. Honestly if you're after a Cine Prime for your BMPCC6K you can't go wrong with it :).
I watched call me by your name twice before even knowing what cinematography is and once after immersing myself deeply. I thought what a shit film this is before and then I cried after the second go I wish to this day I could experience call me by your name for the first time with the knowledge I have in cinematography today and regret just looking over the very intricate details placed in the film.
Thanks for sharing this! It happened to me with other movies as well. Having an understanding of Cinematography, as well as personal experiences and age also can definitely have a huge impact on watching a movie and how we feel about it.
I always struggle to answer this haha, the 35mm lens is used on a Super 35 sensor so yes I'm assuming it is the field of view of a 50mm full frame equiv.
Here are 5 movies to inspire and improve your cinematography.
What are yours ? :)
Cheers,
Flo
Nice work. It would be really cool if you did a cinematography breakdown of Adam Arkapaw's work
I really feel in love with the cinematography of "The End of The F*cking World". Beautiful colors and composition.
@@Darkstar-02 Thanks !! Haha I don't think I have the skills or experience to do this. Such a talented guy.
@@timoernstme Yep, I can agree on this. Beautifully shot !!

Dunkirk
LOTR is the best ❤️
