      Thank you so very much. I started knitting almost 4 years ago, and I can't believe how much I have grown in that time! Knitting is just so fun!

    wow you went from a simple oversized sweater to the SNOW CROCUS a very advanced pattern!! very good job!!! Yes, I learned over the years to only knit with pure wool... there are pros and cons to other blends but in the end pure wool is just the best.... you need to try unspun yarn like Nutiden... it is hot but if you knit with one strand it should be wearable in your climate... also there are GOTS certified superwash yarns like Rosy Green yarn and Bio Shetland that are lovely to knit with... thank you for the podcast today!

      Thank you very much! I can say there were a lot of non-sweater projects in between those two projects. Learning to knit cables on hats and scarves was very helpful! And I can't wait to try unspun wool, I've been wanting to for a while!

    Loved watching this! Number 2 is gorgeous. Have been looking for a cable type sweater pattern to make and I love that one. Also big on the 'prickly-ness' of yarns, so I appreciate you mentioning that!

    • @SheepandOak
      @SheepandOak  11 месяцев назад

      Yes!! I'm constantly searching for other people's opinions about the prickle factor before purchasing yarn. And the snow crocus pattern is brilliantly written, it was such an enjoyable knit.

    Love your sweater review. I don’t really like knitting sweaters with acrylic but i do like Berroco Vintage (worsted) and Berroco Vintage DK, which is made of 52% acrylic, 40% wool, and 8% nylon. I find that it hardly pils, is machine washable, and less expensive. Congratulations on your engagement and Happy New Year. 😊

      Oh it's so good to hear your opinion as someone who also doesn't love acrylic sweaters! Berroco Vintage sounds like the PERFECT yarn for gift knits. Budget, machine washable, and less pills. Thank you so much for your suggestion, I'll definitely try it out!

    Your sweaters are beautiful! Your number one is stunning, did you do a full wet block on it? If you do it very carefully with very warm water with NO agitation it would remove any remaining spinning oil and may help settle down the prickle. If you just steam blocked it that spinning oil is going to be tough on your skin. Thank you for sharing you knitting journey with us!

      So I quickly wet blocked each piece before seaming, but I haven't done a full wet block yet. That's really good advice, thank you! I used something called "KnitIQ No Rinse Delicate Wash." Do you have another brand that you like?

    I really liked all your top four!
    I have a question about your last one - I recently did my first knitting project which was the Raven Collar Kit by Alice Starmore. I've been eyeing up her sweaters and the one you did was one I'm interested in. Too much for such a beginner, or possibly doable?

    • @SheepandOak
      @SheepandOak  10 месяцев назад

      Wow!! The Raven Collar is a very ambitious first project, good job! The most difficult aspect of Na Craga is the seaming at the end. Because of the cables and because there aren't really defined edge stitches, seaming was a bit of an ordeal. The pattern doesn't hold your hand when it comes to seaming, either, so I'm glad it wasn't my first big seamed sweater. If you are confident that you can figure out the seaming, I'd say go for it! But if you are looking for a pattern that will explain seaming a bit more, then take a look at Churchmouse Yarns and Teas. Their patterns are extremely helpful and well-written. They teach you techniques as the pattern progresses. My first seamed sweater was the Saddle-Shoulder Men's Pullover (which you can see on Ben at 22:08!), and I'm so glad it was! By the end of that sweater, I was a mattress-seaming master 😂

    This was a fun episode. Loved seeing your sweaters and I’m obsessed with your beautiful dog. Is he a standard poodle?

    • @SheepandOak
      @SheepandOak  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you so very much! And yes, he's 75% standard poodle, 25% newfoundland dog. He is just a big ol' Doodle! He's only 2.5 years old, so he still has so much energy! I laughed at him throughout this whole video hehe
