What possible conditions or nerve injuries could occur if the shoulder was forced/shrugged upwards too hard (but not enough to separate, break or dislocate the shoulder) leading to symptoms such as extreme weakness with lifting arm away from and across body, lifting overhead and behind, and not being able to shrug shoulder. Also there is extreme weakness lifting, pulling, and pushing.

You possibly could test your nerves , like the axillary nerve, which connects to the deltoid muscle and some surroundings. Or maybe long thoracic nerve if you feel like you have some scapular winging, which is when your scapula wings out of your back after the injury. Could also be a torn rotator cuff, which would be the best thing among the rest I mentioned. I hope you are well and try not to do overhead movements, try to grab for now a tennis or lacrosse ball and roll it against the wall on your back and neck and you are going to break all that fascia, all that contracted and damaged tissue , which restricts movement and causes pain. Try to take vitamins and drink water , eat healthy, please get it checked out, the earlier the better!

Hi doc. I had my botox injected on both my shoulder, arm and armpit areas two weeks ago. After 9 days i have difficulty moving my arms toward my face. Is it possible that my axillary nerve had been damaged or injured? Please help.

Hey Paul. I developed an axillary nerve injury when I was 9 years old. I’m 23 now and my left shoulder is half the size of my right one because I grew up poor and wasn’t able to get it diagnosed until recently. I asked my doctor if it could be fixed and he said it’s unlikely because it’s been so many years since the injury. I was hoping to get a second opinion from you since the doctors in my area aren’t well educated in nerve damage. (Those were my doctors words btw)
