Good morning, my name is Carlos Saavedra from my country Chile 🇨🇱 and although your language is not familiar and it costs a bit, I want to congratulate you and thank you, Family and collaborators for sharing such a beautiful experience and knowledge, it really is spectacular to see what you deliver and do. Thank you very much and a big hug to everyone from the south of the world.
Thank you! It is so good to see a master keeping bees in the frozen north without huge insulation panels all ove rthe place. you really understand bees and what ppl say is bad for bees like not insulating you explain well. would heavy sided insulation cause more moisture problems then the uninsulated sides? words fro a master thanks so much.
Bees control their own hive find me a video where the bees died from moisture. You will find the bees starved or had disease than moisture built up. They need air why he has a upper entrance because it get iced over period. Bees survive -40 but they need the food to stay warm below 15f they start eating like it is 60 degrees outside like your mason jar full of sugar gone in 3 days.
@Michael, you said you needed 70-80lbs of honey for the bees going into the winter. Why do your hives have different combinations of boxes? Some look like 3 deeps, 2 deeps and a medium, I think one was 4 deeps. Also, do you achieve 70-80lbs with your double nuc hives? Thanks for all of the info, very helpful.
So much great info, and yet so hard to listen to - my eardrums are ringing and I had to stop. I think you can run this video thru a sound balancing app or just edit out those parts? Thank you!!!
Its not about the R rating. R ratings are for insulation, which stops the movement of heat. The tar paper is just used as a black layer that absorbs the heat of the sun well. So rather then prevent heat movement it is catching the sun's rays and projecting that into the hive.
@Daniel I’m not sure if you have heard of NOD winter Bee wrap cozies, they have an R rating of R8 and are very effective, but they are thick and take up a lot of storage space, not sure whether to switch to tar paper.
Just a touch of professionalism is wanted here. Why would it be so difficult to fix your technical issues with audio? An otherwise useful presentation was ruined somewhat for lack of quality. Some of what the gentleman shared seemed to be useful.

Thank you from 70 year old starter from Ireland
Thank you, I found many techniques & practices that will help me through my new endeavor Mr. Palmer.
Every time he speaks we should try and pay attention. Beekeeper of the century Mr. Palmer is.
Truly!
I Agree!!!

Just fed up with seeing everyone try to control moisture. Do your bees a service and don’t float them in a swamp
Thank you for the knowledge and explanation of the life cycle that I can understand from Colchester Vermont.
Excellent again. I appreciate Mike's style of presentation - direct and full of information. Thanks
Excellent video.
Thank you, super vidéo !
Thank you.
Such good information. Thanks, from northern Utah, real snow country 😉

He goes two deeps and medium and uses carniolans
You don't use queen excludes? So you have brood everywhere?
The audio is horrendous.

@6:37 there was a drone in the picture, do bees start drone rearing so early in the year?
You are great
Information overload! Great find.
Thanks Mike 👍
Does the chemicals in the tar paper harm the bees at all? What is the R rating of the tar paper? Thank you, great video.

@@HoneyCombCottageBeeOfficial i guess that depends on your preferences and storage needs. Tar paper sounds cheaper though.
its just a windbreak tar paper isnt used by many keepers anymore old school practice and it stinks like well tar
@@danieltaylor8113 its crap and tears easy and stinks when it gets hot and doesnt last long

I could listen to him talk about bees forever
👋👌👍
work on your breathing and level of sound. i cant continue to lower and raise my volume for an hour.
Good lord, pause, swallow, talk, swallow. I made it 3 minutes. Edit the video, mute the swallowing. Its not hard to edit
That and the audio blasts out with every sentence beginning. Agree, unwatchable due to that irritating noise.
@@masterbeekeeper30years18 I agree, pretty bad
WAAAAYYYY too much mouth and saliva noise with every swallow. Get a different mic
i thought I was just being sensitive
Thumbs down for supporting xhinese profiting off our culture
🇹🇷👍👍
