It's funny looking back at the race to see who could be all "future crazy". The terrible instant coffee was an example of such. It was fine if all you wanted was a dose of the world's favorite drug (caffeine) and didn't mind that it tasted like you were drinking if out of an old gym shoe that you found in the locker room. Yum😊
6:34 so that’s why I see the black and white movies with the characters hair look mighty fine. Hair gel sucks, it only makes my hair super dry, and does not hold for 8 hours. It flakes right away and makes my hair and scalp look messy.
The only thing more torturous than having to drink Castoria was having to be held down by someone else while Mom applied Tincture of Merthiolate to open wounds. Merthiolate was taken off the market decades ago because it’s POISON. It contains mercury. I still have a 60 year old bottle of it that I kept to remind me of the horror.
Fun Fact: Hellmann's Mayonnaise is know by that brand in the Eastern & Midwest U.S. It's called Best Foods Mayonnaise in the West & Southwestern U.S. & now owned by Unilever.
Regarding the 0:07 "restored by", is that added when the original film print is digitized, or what's being digitized is already an restored print by others ?
That was seen at the end of a 1957 "BOB CUMMINGS SHOW" telecast, as the announcement for "next week's sponsor" {Colgate-Palmolive, the makers of Halo shampoo}.
Either way, at least we know what they are trying to sell. Too many modern ads are too busy creating abstract performance art, or trying to satisfy some DEI quota, that the product or its benefits get buried. The other plus: no "do not attempt" disclaimers littering the screen.
I was born in 1955, and remember some of these! Wow!
I was born in 1959 and I think this was the advertising style of that day!
Me too (1959) & it was indeed🖖🏻
@@anthonyhunt701 Solidarity right there my friend!

Born in '65 they predate me but I recognize many products and a few voices. Cool show.
The dialogue, singing, and instrumentation, no computers! Real musicians, real talent! Super!
I always liked the Vitals commercial
That Q-Tip commercial was so charming!
But would anyone actually use them on their pet?
Man, those Flav-R Straws seem pretty neat, especially if the coffee flavor was any good.
At 8:23, the little guy in the Oscar Mayer commercial was voiced by Thurl Ravenscroft, better known in later life as the voice of Tony the Tiger!
@OldsVistaCruiser he also sang You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch in the animated Christmas special How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
@@sherryhannah9262 - He was also a Disney Legend. He was the voice of Paul Bunyan in their 1958 cartoon!
Nice to see you're still around guy! From the former elc1960
@@OldsVistaCruiser I don’t think I’ve seen that
@sherryhannah9262 - Ravenscroft did the voice of Tony starting in the '60s for the rest of his life!
I still remember these commercials from the sixties my uncle's used to put Vitals in My hair
I love animated commercials, it gives me lots of ideas into making cartoons
You should do it
3:45- Featuring Mel Blanc.
Oh, it's Carol Lynley in Halo commercial! I remember those..
The late Ms. Lynley is at 2:34 . She , Tuesday Weld and Sandra Dee were noted teen models before their acting days .
@@JJJBRICE Yes. I know. Interesting to see.

I was born in 1946😊
3:44 - Mel Blanc's voice in the Heinz commercial!
Definitely! He had a one-of-a-kind voice! This same voice was used for Bugs Bunny!
Ads for the DC-7 and beer needing a church key are true signs of the time.
Love this!!!!
Big like as always 😅
Most of these turned up on the "1001 Classic Commercials" DVD set.
17:37 - Henry Morgan, of "I've Got a Secret" fame, plays quizmaster for Pioneer Corn Meal.
The elves in the Mounds&Almond joy commercials are frightening.
0:17 "for flavor they took the coke"
I still remember my mom giving me Fletchers Castoria. The taste was NOT pleasant
Yeah, apparently the person who wrote that commercial had never actually tasted it...
Absolutely. It was naaaasty!!! I’m glad that’s off the market
I think it looked like tar and was beyond awful.
If you couldn't stand the taste of Fletcher's Castoria, your childhood was too soft. 🤭

Man I loveloveLUHUHUVVV MOUNDS bars! I wish they made 'em as big as my SHOE!!
They're now made by Hershey's.
That Esso Extra ad... I'd love to know what those animators were smoking!
It's made for the Canadian market ("Imperial Esso").
At 2:39 that's Carol Lynley. She was probably Sixteen or Seventeen.
Austex Beef Stew: 15:50 Dad looks like Mr. Rogers
My uncle told me Austex Beef Stew was made from lame horses retired from rodeos. 🐴
@@luisreyes1963I shudder to think what the meatballs were then....

Even old commercials are better than any cartoon made nowadays
how uneducated a life you must live...
Especially that charming Bactine ad.
17:27 bactine
GREAT collection! Thanks for sharing. Those animations were really awful. I'm old enough to remember most of these.
Glad you like them!

That Halo chick is fine.
That was seen at the end of a 1957 "BOB CUMMINGS SHOW" telecast, as the announcement for "next week's sponsor" {Colgate-Palmolive, the makers of Halo shampoo}.
I'd be surprised if that girl was even 16 years old when that commercial was filmed.
I wish I lived in the days they called candy bars healthy. Ignorince really is bliss.
Where ever did you find these? Great job!
11:52- DICK JOY: "LIVE, from Television City in Hollywood.........."
Doreen lives IN A HOUSE! Im impressed. Austex? plus do not 4get indian bashing...
7:50- Quaker discontinued Puffed Wheat and Puffed Rice in 2019.
Quaker Puffed Rice was copied by Kellogg's a few years after that ad, and their version was called Puffa Puffa Rice.
Puffa Puffa Rice- introduced in 1967- was sweetened with brown sugar (and a dash of granulated sugar)- which Quaker Puffed Rice *didn't* have.
@@fromthesidelines I stand corrected.
That's okay.
👍
These old ads seemed to dwell on their product packaging at the end for about five seconds .
At 17:38 that lady does favor Henry Morgan's real mom .
Madison Ave at its worst or best?

Many of the babies in these commercials are collecting Social Security in 2024.

$5000 a year? Where do I sign? :)
Lol! Bet that's what Chuck Yeager got man!
I'm sure the pay has gone up for those in the U.S. Air Force. ✈️
Salada Tea? Why would anybody want salty tea?
The brand was a play on "It's a lotta tea!" 🍵

The cuts in the almond joy commercial are horrendous.
