I can't agree with that. I listened to this song one time after doing so much ketamine that I forgot what year it was. I went to bed that night absolutely convinced it was 2006 (it was actually 2009). I therefore update your hypothesis and suggest a time independence for this song due to the fact that time scattering had no effect on my interpretation of it. I hereby suggest that it does not have time dependence and can be relatable to anyone regardless of what time they listen to it in.

I remember I was being released from prison with a bunch of other guys who were all trying to change and turn their lives around. I was definitely the youngest at 22. We were in this large white van and this song came on driving through the city. Driving through the Short North and OSU campus looking at all the girls and lights for the first time in years. They were taking us dressed up to a theatre/art show, I guess that was to help integrate us back into society practicing good behavior. They helped us get jobs there too. Windows down we felt and smelt that nice fresh air. That street food smell cooking. The driver cranked it and all the guys started singing. I was one of two white guys. Ill always remember that moment and the energy we all felt. For that brief car ride we all felt like things were turning around and we'd all be alright. We all felt free and that bass and drums pumped the boys up lol This was around ten years ago. Hope all them fellas are doing good. If anyone of you see this, name the program we were going into id love to hear from one of you again

Back in the late 60's or early 70's I was in a Boston band, we opened for the then unknown Police.. They came in a station wagon, maybe with a roadie/driver. Small amps, and drums. They lugged their own equipment in, and set it up. I had never heard them, but heard about them. They started with Roxanne. The club was full, when they started with beat, and an arrangement, we had never heard the likes of, everyone was mesmerized. You sat at tables here and ordered drinks. No one moved, some with a face of disbelief, and complete entrancement at the stunning intoxicating sound of the musical web they weaved. Each time Sting sang the word 'Roxanne', we was at the high edge of his voice, still singing from his chest. You were in suspence if his voice was gonna crack. But Sting had total control of his voice.
It was very obvious these 3 guys were going to make a mark in music. For bass, guitar and drums, they laid down a powerful sound, that perfectly melded with the incredible melody and lyrics
The band was formed in the late seventies and the song Roxanne was written after a gig in Paris in late 1977. So unless you invented a time machine your story is bullshit. They had their debut album in 1978 and that's when they first travelled to America to perform. Your story is made up and Sting would've been in school or training to be a teacher during the time period you gave.

Just found this vid. I was in the audience on 25/04/1979 at Slough Fulcrum Centre with my mates when we were 16. We paid £1.50 for our tickets. It was during their Outlandos D’Amour tour. They used part of the concert for their official Roxanne vid which you are watching. They were amazing. The place only held 1200 people and they sold 990 tickets. Whispering Bob Harris did a punk music DJ set before they came on and there were loads of punks in the audience who flicked gob at him and at the police when they came on. Happy days. :-)

I first heard this song when I was like 10 or 11 and my dad had a CD. Didn't really know what the song meant until he explained it was about a prostitute. So I was just like "Oh, okay." Still listen to it, the singer's got a great voice and it's catchy as all hell.

Such a good band. Who wants to see the Police record a new album ? One of the very few bands that ended things at the height of their fame when there last album was great and they were still on top. I think it is time for the Police to record a new album. it's been a long enough break from them hating on each other. who wants to see them record a new album ?
Given that Sting was the main songwriter and thinking about the pretty poor stuff he's written over the past 5 years then I would say no. His song writing mojo has left the building. but, he wouldn't admit it and he would be steadfastly against the other two taking a stab at writing.
Saw him (Sting)perform this song on stage in Lollapalooza Mumbai. Awesome performance.
