Davey Spillane, is so highly thought of , by one of our greatest songwriter and musician of our time Chris Rea, high praise indeed for this truly talented Master of the Uillean Pipes , this piece in particular is truly haunting and mystical
Awesome playing - If this doesn't stir something in your heart's core, your already dead. P. R. I will arise and go now, for always night and day I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore; While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey, I hear it in the deep heart's core. W.B. Yeats
In my opinion the best flute and ullianpipe interpret and musisian... with so much feeling , soul and love and passion for this music... would have loved to play with him together...
Flare TM hifrommes hi Flare TM most common low whistle is the "Low D", pitched one octave below the traditional D whistle. A whistle is classed as a low whistle if its lowest note is the G above middle C or lower.[1] Whistles higher than this are termed "soprano" or "high" whistles when a distinction is necessary. Low whistles operate on the same principles, and are fingered in the same way as traditional pennywhistles, and also belong to the same woodwind instrument family of end-blown fipple flutes.
Davy played an original "Overton" on many albums and also on stage. The closest (probably even better) you can get to that nowadays would be a whistle by Colin Goldie -- many professional players use his whistles, like Brian Finnegan. If you don't wanna spend that much, a whistle from kerrywhistles would come close. I got a "Thunderbird" low D and love it. Too bad -- just looked on the website and the "Thunderbird" low D is no longer made apparantly. They now just offer the version with the plastic head in low D, the "Kerry Optima".
I can’t think of any sound closer to the soul of Ireland than this. Davey Spillane you are legend. Thank you. 🍀🙏🍀 🇮🇪

Yes!!
sadly, I don't have Irish blood in me. It still moves me.
...but...this is not the version on the Moving Hearts album "The Storm." Slight synth background to that one and a touch quicker.
