I don't know why but this song probably comes the closest to being a sequel to "Your Ex-Lover is Dead". Those same people from that song have grown older, and realize that they might still be something there but are burdened by how much time has passed and are trying to reconcile all the things that stand against them, with their own feelings

Today is the anniversary of Paul MacLeod's death. He played in The Skydiggers for a while and he was a friend of mine.
I think Paul would have loved this song and probably would have played it live. The refrain "I know they're really gone" kills me every time because it's true. Loving someone is inherently a brave act because we accept the fact that eventually we'll have to say goodbye to them because we are all gonna lose this game called life, but we do it anyway. As dark as Paul could get sometimes and despite the fact he ultimately succumbed to his illness, I'd like to believe he understood that too.
I hope he's ok wherever he is. RIP my friend😥

You'd never know it but this song shares many of the same chords with The Smashing Pumpkins 'Disarm' and U2's 'All I Want Is You' mainly the modulation between C-add-9 and G. I'm already playing along hehe. Love it. C-add-9 to G to em to D is my favorite chord progression, it sounds so soft and you can keep the pinky and ring fingers in place between chords, adding an almost drone like quality to the progression.
