I watched 2004 version of Tetsujin 28-Go as my introduction mainly because it's made by Yasuhiro Imagawa, who made Giant Robo OVA and G-Gundam ,and it was kind of surprised with its setting with 1950s Japan, which is something I don't see very often in Anime, let alone with Japan's past with WWII and post-war situations that's considered controversial in Japan nowadays.

I can see why you might not be the most proud of this vid, I thought the off the cuff delivery had it's own compelling flavor to it haha And I'm sure FX would be about the same even if you saw it subbed, how much context could you be missing 🤷

The biggest thing was how 1963 sucked the life out me from the start. That and other unrelated issues made the project kinda miserable because i threw planning out the window. Also 1963 totally gave away the big shikishima reveal towards the end of 2004 so its last third didn't have much going for it imo

it wasn't lost, just untranslated. it's fairly easy to find raw, but even better now that there's official translation out with the blu ray

I don't really watch most of your videos and haven't commented in ages, if ever but I just wanted to thank you for keeping up with your videos. This channel has introduced me to so many movies and shows and I'm having a big personal anime Renaissance currently and find myself watching those videos again. I really appreciate those deep dives into anime history. With a lot of creators I feel like anime started only in the last few years for them but there's so much more if you care to look. Thanks for keeping it up all those years, absolutely classy!

@@bobsamurai Well, I have enjoyed a bunch but my absolute favorite I have watched recently was Kaguya-sama Love is War. Also I finally got around to finishing Revolutionary Girl Utena. I guess soon I might go even earlier than 90s. I did start the Gundam franchise but got stuck early in Zeta so maybe I'll pick that up again.

Sorry Bob I been commenting alot on your channel. I am actually an older subscriber of yours from way back in the days. You been on youtube for quite some years, but this recent love of vintage and classic anime has really interested me and I love how your focusing on more the evolution of the medium now. I hope you do a break down like 70's era at some point. I am really looking forward to more of this journey you’re taking. I am kind of doing the same thing right now in chronological order and I have had some truly enlightening experiences to say the least. I am up to the mid 70's currently.

I think there's a point in single-episode villains of 2004 Tetsujin being way more interesting and sympathetic than the main villain. They, lesser antagonists, are often victims of war, which warped them beyond normal, turned them into dangerous monsters. They didn't deserve it. But the main antagonist embodies the war itself, the forces that put wars in motion. There's nothing sympathetic about him, he's not a victim of anything, he's the one who inflicts misery upon the entire world for entirely selfish reasons. Emotions? Personality? Nothing like that, only endless greed. The actual root of all evil.

I might watch one of the _Tetsujin 28_ anime in the future considering that I have a particular taste for episodic anime stemming from my younger days with _Pokémon_, _Bakugan_, _Digimon_, and _Beyblade_. Of course, this video and the recent license of several of the _Tetsujin 28_ anime from Discotek factored into this choice of mine.

Looks like I will be watching the 2004 version since it sounds the most appealing to me. I think recall hearing about this series many years back but didn't know the name of it. Also, I know you don't watch modern anime as much anymore but I am kind of curious what you think of the recent Junji Ito Netflix anime. I haven't finished it yet but I find it to be decent enough even if the anime's visuals really don't seem as memorable or as expressive as the manga Ito has worked on.

@bobsamurai it's honestly kind of fascinating how bland of a character he is, i didn't even know it was possible. There are very few adaptations that give him more of a personality or identity. He kind of just seems like he exists soley for 60's kids to project themselves onto kind of like video game protagonists lol
