We absolutely love Albufeira! Some folks, both tourists and locals, say Albufeira is too much of a "rowdy party" town but, we visit every January through March and have never experienced any inapprpropriate issues. Great town, beautiful scenery, great location in the middle of the Algarve, tons to do and see even in the middle of winter and really hospitable people. If you get the chance, definitely spend some time in Albufeira 🙂
Hi Janys TFW we also love Albufeira and have been there three times now , we spend between 30-60 days there during the same time as you Jan to March , although we won’t be able to go this year with all the Covid-19 travel restrictions from Canada 🇨🇦 Hope you are staying safe and keeping well Cheers 🍷🙂🍺🎄

Just stumbled on to your channel. Thanks for sharing. I was in Portugal in February, 2019 on a two weeks tour from Lisbon to Porto and two weeks in Madeira. Love, love the Portuguese culture, the food the people, the warmer weather, the scenery, it’s all good. I am also retired and living in Toronto. I have been thinking of spending two months in Portugal. I would like a place like what you guys have. I would even settle for a studio with private bath and kitchen, walking distance to beach, restaurants, grocery store, and public transportation. I want to be able to take trips to different towns and cities but have a home base that is not too expensive but safe. I will keep checking out your vlogs. I would appreciate any tips that you might want to share. Thanks!!
Welcome to our channel we were in Albufeira for 60 days earlier Jan to Mar this year had a great time. This next Jan we are going for a month there are lots of studios and appartments in Albufeira and all the towns around. We have done videos of lots of the towns feel free to check them out . There is a great train system and local buses or car rentals available, Albufeira is very hilly other places are flat . We just stayed at a lovely air bandb in Cascais 30 mins outside Lisbon if you prefer that area. Good luck with your plans Norm and Tina 👍😎
ESTHER DE SOUZA Portimaio is also a nice place. BEAUTIFUL FAMOUS BEACH. You do not have to live in that more expensive area around the beach. Lots of other cheaper options north towards old Portimaio City. Perfect location for starting daily trips north/west/east. And as Tina&Norm said, trains are cheap and fast. Walking is even nicer! Good luck!

We traveled from Toronto to Albufeira via a layover in Lisbon for four hours, making our travel time eighteen hours door to door. We flew by TAP Airlines at a great discounted price, if you want to fly direct from Toronto to Faro then take a look at Air Transat which is more money nearly double when we compared. Our rental car is a Fiat Punto from Auto Atlantic which we got for 12 Euros a day.
and lucky if you fit in the air transat seats ,never seen nothing so tight ,was a guy beside me once almost got stuck on one of them .the same plane has one row of seats extra compare with tap ,and if you have some mastercards you can get free wifi on tap like i do
We loved our time in a holiday apartment at Vila Senhora da Rocha in Armaçāo de Pera, for 2 weeks . Albufeira is absolutely gorgeous and I'd go there again to discover even more. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the videos you've made of this holiday. ✅
This video is a wonderful find. We are in the process of "planning" where we want to spend winters as we want to be here back in Ontario for spring/summers. :)

First visit to your channel so thought I'd better start at the beginning. I have a relative that lives in Canada near winipeg. Looking forward to following your adventures.
Great journey and fantastic style of life. Lovely apartment with nice view you had rented, and I think with good price for Portugal. Excellent and interesting travel video. Hope you spend a good time in Algarve. I send you a like 26 and friendly greetings.
Hi Billy TFW it’s funny we think of you as always being hot 🥵 in Australia 🇦🇺 but I guess at the moment it’s Winters for you ⛄️💨and we are Hot🥵LOL 😂😂 stay safe and well enjoy your weekend Cheers🍷👍🍺
We plan to retire to the Albuferia region for four months during the winter of 2020. Rental accommodation appears to fall into two categories, the first being long term rentals, (6 months or more ) which cost less than short term stays (six months or less) and are usually found through Airbnb. The price for your accommodation seemed very reasonable, any ideas on how to approach renting for 4 to 6 months period and still pay a more reasonable long term rental rate? Any ideas or hints on how to do this? Liked your video by the way, provides encouragement for our future retirement plans in 2020.
Welcome to our channel we find that good prices are for a month or more ,we stayed at this place for two years after searching through hundreds of places. At first it was a new building and the prices were great giving a monthly rate if you booked three weeks you got a week free however they found daily rental fees were more profitable to them. This year we are looking and have found good deals for one bedroom appartments in a resort hotel that provides things like heated Indoor pool as I like to swim .Just be careful Albufeira is very hilly we stay on the Eastern side and can access the Old town by the escalator see our Albufeira Old town video. For us it’s a great way to escape the Canadian 🇨🇦Winter the temps are mild around 18-20 and prices are lower and it’s quiet. In the summer prices rocket and very noisy we hope you have a wonderful time. Have you found a place to stay ? Norm and Tina 😎
Olá from a Ottawa. I caught one of your videos in my feed today, so I thought I would start at the beginning of your time in Portugal (where I plan to move to shortly) :)

Well, I enjoyed it. My first one wasn't too bad (done on an iPhone4), but once I got my first GoPro, my videos nose-dived terribly as the footage was so shaky, and I hadn't realised until I came to edit about 8 videos worth! Arrrrghhh! What a pain.

Hi there. Great interesting channel. I go to the Algarve a few times every year and love it. The friendly people, the food especially the fish.If you check around or ask the reception in your Apt/Hotel what restaurants do a 3 course meal for around 10 euro you will be amazed. That price also usually includes a drink like a beer or glass of local wine.I intend spending longer terms there from next year. Imagine 16° In December - unreal!
Thank you for watching, we do enjoy The Algarve and you are right about the food and wine all very good and plenty of low cost restaurants. We love the weather even in winter as it’s warmer than here in Canada and no snow or ice. Hope you manage to spend more time in The Algarve.
Hi me and my wife also visited albufeira in 2019 and we loved it, we are planning to go back and try one or two months this time off course after pandemic, I was wondering if you can tell us where did you stayed for 1000€ a month and also where did you rent a car for 12€ a day. Thank you very much and enjoy your retirement 👍
The place we stayed at has increased the rent two years on the row and is now expensive, the car rental is Auto Algarve. Hope this helps, we are not traveling because of the virus but hope to winter in The Algarve next year. Thanks for watching.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Thank you for your response and information, is there any other places do you recommend to rent for a month with reasonable price? Thanks again for your time for responding. Have a great day and stay safe
@@shahramsamimi4608 We have heard that if you go inland a bit to Silves or Louie that the rates are cheaper. With the Pandemic 😷 you might find places open to offers just email and ask for a deal (LOL )😂😂🍷
Lots to learn from your adventures! We would like to do the same in in the future but we have to see if we will be healthy enough to travel.Regarding medical insurance how do you have it covered?
Thanks for watching we have travel insurance on our Credit card which is great we can go on trips up to 31days at a time , as many as you want in a year . Enjoy your week 👍
Thank you for checking out our first video, we had no clue what we were doing. Yes after 27 years of pretty awesome cold winters, we will be seeking kinder climates for this coming winter again, not sure where though.
Good Day, I hope all is well. My wife and I have really enjoyed your Videos. Portugal seems more attractive every time we watch them. The D7 visa seems very attractive to us for our long term goals . Have you considered or have you applied for this Visa? Thank you for your time in this matter. Have a great day!

Hi - I am new to this Channel I love Portugal And found your page - Do you have a video regarding your move to Canada are you originally from UK ? Interested to know 😊😊
TFW and welcome to our channel, yes we are originally from the UK we emigrated 28 years ago , we have only been doing You Tube for 2 years so don’t have a video on moving here . Hope you are well have a great week Cheers 🙂🍷🍺
Thank you for subscribing and looking at our video, we decided to make early retirement happen for us, we even visited Norway for the first time last year. Have a great day.
We rent a car for €12 per day and use our credit card insurance, we have been using this car rental agency for three years, always the same price €12, but we do rent for a month. In this video we paid €900 for a month in this apartment we show. Times change and prices vary the video was February 2019 winter rates.
I have so many questions for you. We retired and spend winters in Arizona (we're from Winnipeg) but have often thought of going to Portugal for a few months. You must be getting ready to leave soon as we are too. I'll have to email you guys. So many questions...nice apartment.
We will be in Winnipeg in about three weeks, we are driving across Canada in an RV. We used to go to Florida but found that Portugal is cheaper for apartments and a pretty good temperature between 15 to 22 degrees in Feb to March. Lots of people speak English. Lots of Canadians in The Algarve and more are finding out about it. More than happy to exchange emails.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement So much nicer than going to Florida and S. CArolina - between Trump and the US dollar...we are also now going to Portugal...wonderful country and beautiful people....From Anne and Derek, from beautiful Kincardine, Ontario....
Nice video and review. Quick question about heat. We live by NYC so as cold as Canada, but our apartment has heat. :) I hear that apartments in Portugal often don't have heat. Was your apartment heated, was heat included in $1k? Any feedback about heat would be appreciated.
Hi thanks for watching, yes heat was included and a/c as they are combined units typical of Europe and Asia with remote control. Having said that a lot of smaller landlords will charge for electricity on top of rent so be careful to fully read the descriptions. We were told by someone who had many years experience traveling to Portugal to only rent an apartment with a/c as it can be humid and a/c prevents mould. Most resort hotels offer large one bedroom rooms with separate lounge kitchenette and will included all utilities. Hope it works out for you.
Hi there Just watched your video on 2019 longstay Portugal , Could you give us a name of the apartments, we so want to do this but not sure where to stay. It's hard when you have not had a previous visit to a country., Or to trust the place you see online will be as nice in person. Happy retirement! My fellow canadians
Thank you so much for watching and commenting, the place we stayed at is called Prestige Properties, unfortunately for us they have really increased their rates, to a degree it's beyond what we want to pay. Air Transat does some long stay vacations in the Algarve and one of the properties they use and we have seen it from the outside is Cerro Mar Garden Albufeira. Best of luck, hope you get to enjoy the Algarve.
A lot of Canadians are choosing Portugal 🇵🇹 over Florida , when we started going three years ago the costs were cheaper than Florida but they are creeping up . Have a great day 🌞
Just searching the usual suspects AirBnB, Home & Away and Expedia. We love the Algarve, this apartment has gone up a lot in price so we will search for a new place.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement , too bad you have to look for another place. I live in Calgary but I am Brazilian. My husband and I had a great time in Albufeira
@@gabriellarosa5015 That's great and no language problems for you!! We like that in February and March Albufeira is warm enough to escape the snow in Toronto.
We searched for apartments in Albufiera and their website came up, then we searched AirBnB and they were on there to. We think they might not be in business anymore as the apartments are up for sale.
We’re thinking about Portugal for my early retirement. I’m British and my fiancée is Mongolian. We are in Vietnam at the moment and there are many pros but there are some cons I can’t live with long term. Particularly international online shopping is almost impossible and health care maybe a problem as I age, although I’m a healthy 57 year old. Rent in Nha Trang, Vietnam is US$130and our monthly expenses are about US$1000 per month for 2. Most of that is food. So, we’re interested but I’m concerned with the costs. €1000 per month is way too high. We’d consider country living if the cost was half or less than you pay. Any thoughts?
Portugal is probably the cheapest country in Europe to live, you can buy health insurance at a good cost. However we would think if you moved north of the Algarve into a rural area it would be cheaper, but probably €1500 per month would be more realistic. As a side note if you get a retirement visa, then you live tax free for 10 years.
If you want to live near the beach and/or in a major city, 1000-1500 Euro is realistic for a 1 Bedroom apartment like this in off-season. But if you move to a smaller town or village closer to or in the mountain you can rent a house for 200 Euros if you re not too picky.
dont go to algarve, algarve is beaches ,try the zona oeste, more beautiful then algarve and cheaper but by far ,algarve is the beaches ,but in the winter you don't swim anyway ,people always sees algarve like is the only place in portugal ,i prefer to live in zona oeste ,and in july and august algarve is a zoo ,lines for everything on the tourist places, i know you guys come from countries like Canada and the UK desperate for heat and sun ,but algarve because is a tourist destination is expensive for a lot a people ,
I think your topic and your information is worthwhile. The set up of rolling out to the cab and sitting in economy class middle seats and such is not instrumental to the purpose of the video. Hence some pushback from folks looking for soundtracks and Academy Award level stuff.
@@annekennedy8127 We love that video because it’s our first You Tube and it told a great story of us leaving the apartment, getting a taxi , flying to Portugal 🇵🇹 It wasn’t an Albufeira travel review it’s just our story to look back on when we are old LOL 😂😂
Thanks for your comment we love both Portugal and Canada so we will be spending time in both . Sorry for the late reply we have been in Terceira Island.
Vancouver Island here...grey skies and various types of rain from October-ish to Apri-ish so we like to get out to some warmth and blue skies!! Can you comment which months you were there and temperature range? Lovely to have the blue skies and water views from your balcony.
If you were renting long term, even in albufeira, you would get a much different (lower) rate for a year-round rental. For a long-stay holiday rental, 1600 CAD is actually quite a good price (for this very popular and desirable area). The great thing about Portugal is there is something for everyone...(most everyone’s) budget.

hi, glad your enjoying the holiday , and always good to see videos of people enjoying the life... cheers
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Covid has also impacted our family Christmas celebrations and of course our annual winter (Portugese) vacation. Such a disappointment on both fronts 😥 But, we all have to do our part to contain this horrible Covid pandemic. Keep posting your lovely videos, they are great fun. Merry Christmas 🎅🎄🎁🍽 to you both, and be safe so you can return to Portugal next year (hopefully).

Portimaio is also a nice place.

In this video we paid €900 for a month in this apartment we show. Times change and prices vary the video was February 2019 winter rates.

Thank you so much for watching and commenting, the place we stayed at is called Prestige Properties, unfortunately for us they have really increased their rates, to a degree it's beyond what we want to pay.
But if you move to a smaller town or village closer to or in the mountain you can rent a house for 200 Euros if you re not too picky.
dont go to algarve, algarve is beaches ,try the zona oeste, more beautiful then algarve and cheaper but by far ,algarve is the beaches ,but in the winter you don't swim anyway ,people always sees algarve like is the only place in portugal ,i prefer to live in zona oeste ,and in july and august algarve is a zoo ,lines for everything on the tourist places, i know you guys come from countries like Canada and the UK desperate for heat and sun ,but algarve because is a tourist destination is expensive for a lot a people ,
🇨🇦🇵🇹
Thank you!
I think your topic and your information is worthwhile. The set up of rolling out to the cab and sitting in economy class middle seats and such is not instrumental to the purpose of the video. Hence some pushback from folks looking for soundtracks and Academy Award level stuff.

1600 CAD for a furnished, long-stay apartment, appears to be close to the beach and has a dishwasher? That’s EXCELLENT!! Does it by chance have wifi?
Vancouver Island here...grey skies and various types of rain from October-ish to Apri-ish so we like to get out to some warmth and blue skies!! Can you comment which months you were there and temperature range? Lovely to have the blue skies and water views from your balcony.
If you were renting long term, even in albufeira, you would get a much different (lower) rate for a year-round rental. For a long-stay holiday rental, 1600 CAD is actually quite a good price (for this very popular and desirable area). The great thing about Portugal is there is something for everyone...(most everyone’s) budget.
